This is not only an attack on the people of France and Paris, this is an attack on humanity and all humanitarian and Olympic Values. We stand united with all people from all around the globe. Our thoughts are of course with the families and friends of those who have been killed or wounded. […] In these dark times, we should remember the unifying power of sport to unite people and communities and to bring peace and reconciliation. Today all people of goodwill will say: We are all French”. IOC President sent a letter of condolence and support to the President of the French Republic, François Hollande and ordered that the Olympic flag be lowered to halfmast to remember this tragedy. Meeting after the publication of the report by the Independent Commission of the World AntiDoping Agency (WADA), the IOC Executive Board (EB) confirmed the proposal of the IOC Ethics Commission to provisionally suspend Lamine Diack, the former IAAF President, from his honorary membership of the IOC. The following day, on 11 November, Lamine Diack resigned from his position at the IOC. The EB also asked the IAAF to initiate disciplinary procedures against all athletes, coaches and officials who have participated in the Olympic Games and are accused of doping in the report of the Independent Commission. With its zerotolerance policy against doping, following the conclusion of this procedure, the IOC will take all the necessary measures and sanctions with regard to the withdrawal and reallocation of medals and as the case may be exclusion of coaches and officials from future Olympic Games. The President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), Alexander Zhukov has met the IOC President to discuss the findings of the WADA Independent Commission Report. Following the meeting, the ROC with the full backing of the IOC, will undertake actions to protect the clean athletes and to sanction all the doped athletes and officials. Read the full press release here. © IOC / Greg Martin Speaking at the opening of the annual IF Forum organised in Lausanne by SportAccord Convention, chaired by Francesco Ricci Bitti, the IOC President, Thomas Bach, invited all the IFs to put all their focus and efforts into safeguarding the credibility of sport by implementing standards and principles of good governance in all their activities in order to protect the common interest of the Olympic Movement. He recalled that the Forum is an opportunity to deepen the partnership and strong working relationships that exist between the IOC and the IFs. (see also ‘Recognised organisations’ section) The IOC President also addressed the representatives of the International Sports Federations based in Lausanne and the canton of Vaud at their annual meeting, attended in particular by the Head of the Swiss Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sports, Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer, Mayor of Lausanne Daniel Brélaz and the Head of the Department of Economy and Sport of the Canton of Vaud, Philippe Leuba. A meeting with the Olympic winter IFs, was the opportunity to review keys to success to ensure the future development of the Olympic Winter Games and how to put the Olympic Agenda 2020 in action, mainly with regard to the candidature process, the sustainability, the legacy and the feasibility as well as the safeguarding of the success of future Games. With the Alliance of Independent Members of SportAccord AIMS), which met at the IOC headquarters, the IOC President underlined the importance of cooperation in the followup of the recommendations of the Olympic Agenda 2020. © IOC / Greg Martin The IOC President spoke to the President of the Czech NOC, Jiri Kejval, about his forthcoming visit to Prague for the General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) and preparations for the Olympic Games Rio de Janeiro 2016, as well as of the plan for an Olympic Park initiated by the Czech NOC. President Bach met the President of the Hellenic NOC, Spyros Capralos. As well as the Olympic Agenda 2020 recommendations, they discussed preparations for the Olympic Games Rio de Janeiro 2016 and PyeongChang 2018, as well the lighting ceremony of the Olympic Flame in Olympia next April. A delegation from the New Zealand NOC composed of Barbara Kendall and Barry Maister, IOC Members in New Zealand, and Kereyn Smith, NOC Secretary General, met the IOC President. President Bach also spoke to a delegation from the NOC of Liechtenstein about the implementation of the Olympic Agenda 2020 recommendations. The President of the International Biathlon Union (IBU), Anders Besseberg, accompanied by the Secretary General, Nicole Resch, spoke with the IOC President about preparations for the biathlon competition at the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018. The IOC President’s discussions with the President of the Association of IOC Recognised International Sports Federations (ARISF), Raffaele Chiulli, concerned the cooperation between recognised IFs and the IOC in numerous areas, including the integrity of sport and the fight against doping. http://www.olympic.org/news/olympichighlights/247475 3/14 2015/11/18 Olympic Highlights © IOC / Greg Martin President Bach met the President of the International World Games Association (IWGA), IOC Member José Perurena, with whom he discussed various subjects linked to the Olympic Agenda 2020 recommendations. © IOC / Greg Martin With the Chief Executive of the International Cricket Council (ICC), David Richardson, the Olympic Agenda 2020 and its recommendations about the Olympic programme were on the agenda of the meeting. http://www.olympic.org/news/olympichighlights/247475 4/14 2015/11/18 Olympic Highlights The main topics of discussion with the Secretary General of the International Fair Play Committee (CIFP), Sunil Sabharwal, were the celebration of the CIFP’s 50th anniversary and the presentation of Fair Play awards at the forthcoming Olympic Games Rio de Janeiro 2016. President Bach congratulated IOC Member Ivan Dibos on his appointment as Chairman of the Peruvian Government’s Sports Advisory Committee. Answerable to the Ministry of Education, the Committee is responsible, inter alia, for submitting recommendations on the drafting, implementation and monitoring of policies related to physical and sports education. Meetings were also held with IOC Executive Board Members Ugur Erdener and Craig Reedie, and IOC Members Richard W. Pound, Sheikh Ahmad AlFahad AlSabah, Ung Chang, Samih Moudallal, Lydia Nsekera, Danka Bartekova, Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark, and Mamadou Ndiaye. © IOC / Greg Martin The IOC President also met IOC Members Barry Maister, PoulErik Hoyer, James Tomkins, Mamadou Ndiaye and Nenad Lalovic who took part in an information meeting for new IOC Members. © IOC / Greg Martin On 12 November, the President welcomed children from schools of the Lausanne region as part of “Dare to do a job” day. He gave them a tour of his office and answered their questions on his schedule and role as President. This day is part of the awarenessraising programme run by several Swiss cantons to allow primary and secondary schoolchildren (aged 9 to 15) to find out about various professions. During the Bambi 2015 media awards ceremony held in Berlin, IOC President presented the Millenium Bambi award to German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble. MEMBERS ChingKuo Wu, IOC EB Member and President of the International Boxing Association (AIBA), represented the IOC President at the Opening Ceremony of the Premier 12 World Baseball Championships in Chinese Taipei on 9 November. Taking place in Chinese Taipei and Japan from 8 to 21 November, these championships bring together the 12 best national baseball teams in the world. Adam Pengilly has been named as Chef de Mission of the British delegation for the Winter Youth Olympic Games Lillehammer 2016. A member of the British NOC, he is also part of the IOC Athletes’ Commission and of the Coordination Commission for these Games. © IOC Rita Subowo has left her position as an IOC Member as she is no longer President of the Indonesian NOC. She had been elected at the 119th IOC Session in Guatemala City. The IOC President thanked her for her contribution to the IOC and invited her to attend the IOC Session in Rio de Janeiro to say farewell to her former colleagues. © IOC / Benoit Fontaine COMMISSIONS http://www.olympic.org/news/olympichighlights/247475 6/14 2015/11/18 Olympic Highlights © IOC / Christophe Moratal At the 2015 IOC Women in Sport Awards ceremony held at The Olympic Museum in Lausanne, the NOC of New Zealand became the first NOC to be named World Winner. It was awarded the World Winner trophy for its longstanding efforts to promote women in sport that have resulted in strong female representation on its Executive Board, within its senior management and in its Olympic delegations.
