Reference Paper 3 (Summary Translation) Invitation to “Temple Worship with Dragon Boat” of ALC Hung Shing Culture Festival 2019 The Hung Shing Festival falls on the 13th day of the second lunar month. Hung Shing was a deified historical figure who served as Governor of Panyu in Guangdong province during the Tang Dynasty. Hung was also a master of astronomy and geography who helped forecast the weather for fishermen and merchants. He was later worshipped by fishermen of the coastal areas as the God of the Sea. Ho Sheung Heung in Sheung Shui, Tai Kok Tsui and Ap Lei Chau all have a Hung Shing Temple and celebrate the festival each year with traditional procession, pun choi feast (basin feast), Cantonese opera, Fa Pao ceremony (offering of floral-cannon), etc. Built in 1773, Hung Shing Temple of Ap Lei Chau has a history of over 240 years. Its annual events have attracted thousands of local residents and tourists every year. Apleichau Kai Fong Tung Hing Association will hold a “Temple Worship with Dragon Boat” to celebrate the Hung Shing Festival in the Southern District this year. Event details are as follows: “Temple Worship with Dragon Boat” Date: 17 March 2019 Time: 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Venue: Aberdeen Typhoon Shelter The Association would like to invite the Southern District Council (SDC) to be the supporting organisation of the aforesaid festive celebration and send a team of representatives to attend the event. It is believed that the event will be more meaningful and iconic with the support of SDC. .
