First and foremost, infinite gratitude to three of the most generous people I know: Dirk De Wit, Sam Eggermont, and Pieter Leenknegt. For hospitality, encouragement, friendship and laughs. Many thanks to my supervisors, Prof. Arjen van Witteloostuijn and Prof. Annick Schramme, for four years of moral support, reading, and discussion, on a topic which I know was not part of your day-to- day interests. Annick was the first to think of me as a PhD candidate, and to give me the call that kick- started everything. Arjen followed up by arranging a meeting and convincing me to take the leap. The four years that followed seemed like an unlikely endeavor, but together we made it work. Many thanks also to my doctoral committee and jury members, for attentive reading and constructive feedback: Prof.

Don’t judge me for the approach I have chosen to serve my intro; obviously this is an entertainment magazine but oh yeah, I’m a Christian! (A passive one though, at least I know a few bible verses). Proverbs 31:10 says “Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies.” A Ruby is said to be one of the four most precious stones in the world (others being Emeralds, Sapphires and Diamonds). It is also amongst the most expensive stones in the world with its value being determined by its color, cut, clarity and carat weight. The world’s record for the most expensive Ruby is placed at $2.2 million (est. N341,000,000) for an 8-carat Ruby beating the previous record of $3.6 million (est. N558,000,000) for a 15.7 carat Ruby. Being as expensive as it is, the bible rates the value of a virtuous woman “far above rubies” I have never questioned why the value of a good woman has been placed so high; rather I have always wondered, what exactly makes Editor-In-Chief them more valuable than their male counterparts. Some people say Anslem Jon it’s the fact that women are patient enough to carry children in their wombs for 9 months or even more – this I agree with.

He gave me the word “possible” and made me run by it. Special thanks to my parents, Dr and Mrs Bolanle Ojoawo. My father‟s life, as a scholar and goal getter, motivated me as a young girl and it has always been my dream to bag this degree one day. However, this dream would not have been achieved if my mother did not stand by me. She encourages me with her words, care, prayers and her “widow‟s mite”. I love you mum!!! My siblings: Akintomide Abiodun and Ayomide Abiodun, what can I do without you? I feel blessed to have you. Your consistent follow-up ensured no room for failure. I want to also thank my meticulous supervisor, Dr A.B. Sunday, for his patience, emotional intelligence, support, guidance, encouragement, advice and the confidence he had in me throughout my time as his student. I dare to say I have been extremely fortunate to have such a brilliant guiding angel, because completing this work would have been so difficult even unachievable without him.
