  • Youth Champion
Dialogue and Mutual Understanding PRESS RELEASE UN to appoint actress Monique Coleman as Youth Champion New York, 16 November: The UN will appoint Disney actress and youth activist Monique Coleman as a “Youth Champion” for the International Year of Youth at a press conference today. Ms. Coleman is best known for her character Taylor McKessie in the “High School Musical” movies and her recurring role as Mary-Margaret on “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody”. Most recently, she launched an online talk show, “Gimme MO'”, to empower youth. The American actress, a long-time advocate for improving the social and economic well-being of young peo- ple, says "I am extremely passionate about youth and look forward to highlighting the amazing ways they are already making a difference.” Assistant Secretary-General Jomo Kwame Sundaram in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs will present Ms. Coleman with a letter of recognition as a UN Youth Champion to promote the International Year. The International Year of Youth was launched on 12 August 2010 and runs through 11 August 2011. Youth, defined by the United Nations as people between the ages of 15 to 24, represent 18 per cent of the world’s population, or 1.2 billion people. The Year provides an opportunity to recognize that young people in all countries are a major human resource for development, positive social change and technical innovation. It aims to advance their full participation on youth-related issues in global, regional and national development agendas. To provide a vehicle to reach the young men and women who spend a great deal of time in cyberspace, Ms Coleman hosts each online “webisode”, which facilitates safe conversation on important issues confronting young people and provides much needed positive information and content.

• Best Dancing at Sea Tweet
www.CruiseCritic.com Best Dancing at Sea Tweet Vicki Baum, the Austrian writer whose novel "Menschen im Hotel" inspired the Academy Award-winning film "Grand Hotel," once said: "There are shortcuts to happiness, and dancing is one of them." If dancing is a shortcut to happiness for you, then dancing at sea can be a quick step to bliss. Why? Cruise ships offer dance aficionados a wide variety of enticing venues, from trendy nightclubs playing the latest club music to posh, outdoor dancing under the stars, elegant ballrooms and many a dance lounge in between. Better still, thanks to "Dancing With the Stars" and other popular dance shows, there has been a boost in dance-themed cruises where you can perfect your skills -- including "Dancing With the Stars" theme cruises complete with professional dancers and celebrities. Before we share our favorite ships for dancing at sea, here are a few good things to know about shaking your booty at sea: If you prefer a smoke-free atmosphere when you dance, head for the nightclubs on Holland America, Celebrity, Norwegian, Princess and Royal Caribbean, as well as Crystal's Palm Court and Cunard's ballrooms. Clubs on other ships can get a bit smoky. Most Europeans love to dance, so you'll find the dance floors busy on European lines like Costa and MSC. These ships feature more dance space, too. While American lines tend to have larger casinos than dance clubs, European ships divvy up their space the opposite way. Single ladies (or those without dancing partners) can hit the floor with a dance host on Cunard, Crystal, Silversea and Holland America.

Washington Convention Center on Sat. Jan 27 at ’08 WAS. Above, right: House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) looks over GM’s Chevy Equinox fuel cell vehicle, which was the winner of the Green Car Journal’s “Vision Award,” at the WAS. The show attracted substantial media attention with numerous news agencies, such as the one interviewing WAS Chairman John Ourisman (below, right.) Pictured (bottom right) are pro- fessionals from Arthur Murray Dance Studios launching the popular, new WAS contest “Dancing for Toyotas.” “Dealers, salespeople and managers are reminded at a huge show like this how many thousands of people are still in love with new cars and trucks, which is a very renewing experience,” said John M. Ourisman of the recently concluded Washington Auto Show which he chaired. “We’re also gratified with the global focus of this auto show, which continues to position itself as the pub- lic policy show on the industry circuit,” he said. Commenting on show attendance, WAS Manager Bob Yoffe confirmed that the 2008 WAS may have inched ahead of 2007 that would make this year’s auto show the second best in Washington history. “Crowds were steady and orderly with far more e-ticket purchases this year than ever before,” Yoffe said, noting that this year’s closing weekend Sunday eclipsed attendance for the same day a year ago.

  • MASTERS Audio Club, April 2019 Monique Coleman “Acting Is My Passion, Advocacy Is My Purpose.”
MASTERS Audio Club, April 2019 Monique Coleman “Acting is my passion, advocacy is my purpose.” Monique Coleman is an actor, producer, and global youth advocate most recognized as Taylor McKessie in Disney’s High School Musical franchise and known to many as the first-ever United Nations Youth Champion. Interviewed by Winn Claybaugh, Monique is clear about her purpose to use her celebrity and influence for causes she is passionate about, including the global water crisis, education for young girls, and much more. Monique’s mantra, “Acting is my passion, advocacy is my purpose,” navigates her MASTERS message about giving a voice to those who are “uncounted.” Winn: Hi everybody, Winn Claybaugh here, and welcome to this issue of MASTERS. This one’s going to be a fun one, especially because of the person who I’m sitting with right now, but you’re going to be blown away by her message. You’re going to think, Wait a minute. How does somebody so young—[laughs] Mo: [laughs] Winn: —get so smart and so connected and so on-purpose with the power and the influence that she has? And this is going to be a wonderful journey. We just barely met five minutes ago, face-to-face, but I’ve been spending some time doing some research on this wonderful woman, as well as talking to a very dear friend of mine—not a stranger to MASTERS—Seth Maxwell, who is the founder of the Thirst Project, which addresses the water crisis. And we’ve been behind his foundation and his cause and so, of course, anything that he says or asks about, I say yes to.

! LOUIS VAN AMSTEL Twitter: @LouisVanAmstel Instagram: @louisvanamstel Three-time World Dance Champion and Emmy- nominated choreographer Louis van Amstel is best known for his ten stunning turns on the smash hit TV show “Dancing with the Stars.” Louis has enjoyed amazing seasons on the show with partners such as Paula Deen, Trista Sutter, Lisa Rinna, Monique Coleman, and Priscilla Presley. In Season 9, Louis was partnered with Kelly Osbourne, whom he helped transform from underdog to fan favorite and lost 35 lbs along the way. In the following seasons Louis partnered Niecy Nash, Margaret Cho, Kendra Wilkinson, and Sabrina Bryan in the All-star season. In the Fall of 2019 Louis will be joining Holland’s “Dancing with the Stars” in the judge’s chair. Louis served as Choreographer, creative director, and performer, for the immensely popular “Dancing with the Stars” live tours in 2006 and 2007. His creative vision helped to make the tours one of the most successful live shows. In 2008, Louis was sworn-in as an American citizen, which marks a very proud mile stone for the Dutch-born dancer. In 2009, he served as a choreographer on FOX’s dance hit show “So You Think You Can Dance,” marking the first time any “DWTS” talent had crossed over to work on both shows at the same time. Three of the seven dances he choreographed made it to the finale and were mentioned as the judges’ favorite picks at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood. With much pride he continues choreographing on the groundbreaking show currently on its 13th season.
