Patrick Long’s & Sebastien Bourdais’ Comments About the 8th Annual Kart 4 Kids Pro-Am Kart Race It’s only fitting that this year’s 8th annual Kart 4 Kids charity karting event takes place just a few steps from the entrance of Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St Pete. It’s also just a stone’s throw from Dan Wheldon Way. Each year the event grows, the funds raised increase, and the awareness around a special hospital and a group of kids accelerate. Thank you to our hosts, all of the sponsors, partners, donors, pro drivers, and especially the large committee of great volunteers who make the production of this event happen. This event started off as a humble gathering, with the goal of raising a few dollars in the name of Dan Wheldon for the Hospital. Dan was a St. Pete resident, and someone who had a lot of time for All Children’s. We continue to race in his memory and smile as status and organization of this gathering continues to reach new boundaries! A few milestones were reached in 2018 for Kart for Kids. We managed to donate 130k$ to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, bring the event downtown and reinforce the involvement of the community and sponsors thanks to our amazing group of volunteers. The response from the racing community was no less impressive, with many drivers from different series donating their apparel and time. 2019 will be no less impressive and I want to thank each and every individual for their continued support.

  • Porsche and the Triple Crown of Endurance Racing
www.porscheroadandrace.com Porsche and the Triple Crown of endurance racing Published: 7th December 2018 By: Martin Raffauf Online version: https://www.porscheroadandrace.com/porsche-and-the-triple-crown-of-endurance-racing/ Le Mans 24 Hours, 13-14 June 1970: A jubilant Hans Herrmann and Richard Attwood are given a ride on the back of a truck as they celebrate Porsche’s first victory in the French endurance race There are three Sports Car endurance races that have been run over the past sixty-plus years that have been referred to as the ‘Triple Crown’. Arguably, some can say other races should also be included, but these three have withstood the test of time, and they are the Le Mans 24 Hours, the Sebring 12 Hours, and the Daytona 24 Hours. www.porscheroadandrace.com 12 Hours of Sebring, 26 March 1960: Porsche’s first overall win at Sebring in the USA was achieved by Olivier Gendebien and Hans Herrmann driving a 718 RS 60 Spyder The Le Mans 24 Hours started in 1923, and apart from a brief hiatus for the Second World War, it has been going ever since. The 12 Hours of Sebring was started in 1952 (it ran as a 6-hour race in 1950 and 1951) by Alec Ulmann on a World War II vintage US Air Force base, in Sebring Florida, making use of some disused runways to create a 5.2-mile circuit. Daytona, the youngest of the three races, started out of course as a NASCAR stock car track in 1957. In 1962, the France family added an International sports car race to the schedule, and the 24 hours of Daytona was born, although the first two races were 3-hour races, and then 1964 and 1965 they were 2000 km events.

  • WAYNE TAYLOR Team Owner Bio
WAYNE TAYLOR Team Owner Bio The theme for three-time sportscar-racing champion and team owner Wayne Taylor as the team he founded in 2007 celebrated a highly successful decade of existence in 2017 was “unfinished business.” After a head-turning five wins to start the 10-race campaign that culminated with the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship driver titles for his sons Ricky and Jordan Taylor, as well as the team title, the theme turned into a resounding “business finished.” Debuting an all-new racecar – the No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R – Taylor was reunited with the Cadillac brand he first campaigned in the North American sportscar ranks from 2000 through 2003 alongside his longtime co-driver and business partner Max “The Ax” Angelelli. After two years of development involving carmaker Cadillac, chassis manufacturer Dallara, and engine manufacturer Earnhardt Childress Racing – orchestrated behind the scenes by Angelelli – and an intensive testing program involving Taylor’s team and his sons as full-time co-drivers, there were high expectations for the all-new Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi- V.R as it competed for the driver and team titles. “The truth was that it was unfinished business for me and for Max, especially, as we ran the Cadillac program in 2000 to 2003,” Taylor said. “And just when we felt we were getting to a position where we thought we were going to be competitive, the program ended. As the series evolved and the new DPi formula was introduced this year, it made sense for Cadillac to come back and show its technology here.

  • Record-Breaking 2020 Rolex 24 at Daytona
PRESS RELEASE RECORD-BREAKING 2020 ROLEX 24 AT DAYTONA Daytona International Speedway, 26 January 2020 – Records tumbled at this weekend’s Rolex 24 At DAYTONA, the 58th edition of North America’s most prestigious endurance race. The defending No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R. clinched victory, completing an unprecedented 833 laps, equivalent to 2,965.48 miles (4,772.48 km), as the twice-around-the-clock challenge played out under clear skies. The conditions guaranteed that this test of durability, perseverance and endeavour was also a sprint race as the drivers pushed themselves and their machinery to the limit. Renger van der Zande, Ryan Briscoe, Scott Dixon and Kamui Kobayashi shared driving duties for Wayne Taylor Racing’s No. 10 Cadillac and following victory van der Zande relished in his team’s success, saying: “It was fantastic, the best car I have ever driven at Daytona, you could push every lap and that made it very special. It is an honour to race and work with some of the finest drivers in the world, including Scott Dixon this year and Fernando Alonso in 2019. A Rolex watch is the best trophy you can receive, and to take it home to my family makes me especially proud. I now have two watches to pass on to my two children, I’m extremely happy.” In recognition of Rolex’s enduring relationship with Daytona Beach – dating back almost 90 years to Sir Malcolm Campbell’s land speed records – as well as its commitment to excellence, the Swiss watch brand awards the winning drivers with a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona.
