CFDA AWARD NOMINEES/2 RUEHL’S NEW HEAD/3 WWDWomen’s Wear DailyWEDNESDAY • The Retailers’ Daily Newspaper • March 30, 2005 • $2.00 Gwen the Sportswear Garmento NEW YORK — Far from the bright lights of center stage, singer Gwen Stefani is proving her mettle as the L.A.M.B. fashion designer with vision, edge and retail savvy. Just ask execs at Saks Fifth Avenue, Henri Bendel and Shopbop.com, where the sell- through numbers for her collection are considerably better than rock steady. WWD sat down with Stefani as she started work with her creative partners, Zaldy, shown here with the pop star, and stylist Andrea Lieberman, on L.A.M.B.’s spring 2006 line, which they hope to show during New York Fashion Week in September. For an inside look, see pages 6 and 7. Splitting Up Saks Inc.: Belk Said Among Suitors For Department Stores By David Moin NEW YORK — A breakup of Saks Inc. appears to be in the works. Sources said Tuesday that Saks Inc., which is based in Birmingham, Ala., is attempting to line up buyers for its 235- unit department store group, with Belk Inc. as a primary suitor. There are other parties said to be interested in the Saks department stores, including two private equity firms, Blackstone Group and Apollo Advisors. These same equity firms also are said to be interested in the Neiman Marcus Group. • The CHOICE for LOVE Entering Into a New, Enlightened Relationship with Yourself, Others & the World
the CHOICE for LOVE Entering into a New, Enlightened Relationship with Yourself, Others & the World DR. BARBARA DE ANGELIS HAY HOUSE, INC. Carlsbad, California • New York City London • Sydney • Johannesburg Vancouver • New Delhi q 1 e Love Is All There Is Returning Home through the Exquisite Doorway of the Heart “The heart is the hub of all sacred places. Go there, and roam.” — Bhagawan Nityananda From the moment we were born into this world, and perhaps even before, each of us has been traveling on a mysterious, miraculous soul journey. No matter where we believed we were going, wanted to go, or tried desperately not to go, no matter how many detours we’ve regretta- bly taken or unexpected delays we’ve encountered, that path has inev- itably been leading us to one place: the exquisite doorway of the Heart. There, upon entering, we will have the astonishing revelation that the love we’ve been seeking in countless ways has been inside of us all along. Your whole life has been a spectacular love story. Love is the most pow- erful force in our lives. It is invisible, immeasurable, and incomprehensible, drawing us toward itself with a gravitational pull that’s impossible to resist. You were conceived and created from love, and as soon as you arrived here, you began reaching for more love and haven’t stopped since. As a child, your first act of will was to reach for your mother. You reached out for contact, for comfort, and for nourishment. As you grew you reached for toys and treats and things you loved and wanted.

  • Jazz for Prostate Cancer Awareness
Jazz for Prostate Cancer Awareness™ (Jazz4PCA), will host their 5th Annual Jazz4PCA Holiday Gala at The Rutgers Club in Piscataway, NJ on Sunday, December 8, 2019, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The Gala’s featured artist is renowned jazz pianist/composer/arranger Nat Adderley Jr., and his quartet. Jazz4PCA is a 501c3-registered foundation focused on raising prostate cancer awareness and funding for free screenings in uninsured and underinsured populations. Jazz4PCA advocates for men’s wellness through the draw and appeal of live jazz music in a relaxed atmosphere. Their growing constituency of local, state, and national partners, which include restaurants, music venues, notable musicians, politicians, healthcare practitioners, other non-profit organizations, survivors, patients, and volunteers help them to achieve our objectives. Jazz4PCA™ was founded in 2011 in memory of legendary jazz trombonist James “Jimmy” Stowe, who succumbed to prostate cancer at age 61. His brothers, Phillip, Ralp h, and Wendell, each have undergone a successful prostatectomy, from the benefits of early cancer screenings. Proceeds from this Jazz4PCA™ event will offer the same opportunity to other men by contributing to a national “free prostate cancer screening” campaign. The Gala’s keynote speaker will be Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey’s, Dr. Isaac Kim, Chief of Urologic Oncology, Executive Director of the Prostate Cancer Program, and mentor of Jazz4PCA’s outreach campaign. Other brief presentations will feature: • RESPOND Study - a nation-wide, $26.5 million funded study initiative examining African- American men and their more-aggressive forms of prostate cancer. Antoinette M. Stroup, PhD, Director of the New Jersey State Cancer Registry and Principal Investigator, will lead the presentation.
