MEDIA TIP SHEET Monday, May 21 - Sunday, June 3 Monday, May 21 Event: 5 O’Clock Somewhere Bar Flair Bartending Lesson Media Arrival: 11:00 AM Time: 11:15 AM – 12:00 PM Location: Margaritaville Casino at Flamingo Hotel 3555 S Las Vegas Blvd. Las Vegas, NV 89109 Description: Contestants will be entertained while watching Flair Bartenders mix drinks. With the manipulation of bar tools and liquor bottles, drinks will be prepared in tricky, dazzling ways. Flair enhances the overall guest experience by combining mixology knowledge with coordination skill commonly associated with jugglers. Tuesday, May 22 Event: Actress Dania Ramirez Presents Chinese Laundry Wedge Run Media Arrival: 12:45 PM Time: 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM Location: Las Vegas Strip at Planet Hollywood (Press Meeting Area TBD) 3667 Las Vegas Blvd. South Las Vegas, NV 89109 Description: The Miss USA contestants will hit The Strip running in a three legged race. The winning pair will be awarded a check to the charity of their choice and a Chinese Laundry shopping spree. Although these girls are professionals when it comes to walking in high heels, it remains to be seen how they will do in wedges. A surprise celebrity guest and Miss USA 2011 Alyssa Campanella will host the event. There will be a red carpet and Las Vegas DJ spinning at the pool. Wednesday, May 23 Event: 2012 Miss USA® Official Welcome Event With Jerry Springer Media Arrival: 6:00 PM Time: 6:30 PM Location: Planet Hollywood, North Entrance 3667 Las Vegas Blvd. South Las Vegas, NV 89109 Description: Welcome the 2012 Miss USA contestants as they debut on the Red Capet in fabulous Las Vegas to kick off the 61st Annual MISS USA® Competition! Jerry Springer will host the event. Remarks will be made from LVCVA; Planet Hollywood; the Miss Universe Organization President Paula Shugart; and Miss USA 2011 Alyssa Campanella.     White Paper 1 Miss Universe 2015 and Feminism Beauty pageants can trace their origins to ancient Greece, but pageants have taken place in the United States only since the early nineteenth century (Minorcon). From the beginning, countless amounts of people watch in awe as these women perform and shine on stage. Nonetheless, many have begun to question beauty pageants; this is especially prevalent in recent years with the amount of supporters for the feminist movement rapidly increasing. In January of 2015, the Miss Universe pageant was held at Florida International University, a four-year public research institution in Miami. This event generated many complaints and concerns of numerous students and faculty. A good number of people were concerned that FIU hosting the Miss Universe pageant was more detrimental than beneficial. In particular, some were worried about the serious issues that the pageant’s contestants like these face both physically and mentally. Moreover, there was the underlying issue of the objectification of women and further reinforcing traditional gender roles. The act of bringing the Miss Universe pageant to Florida International University stands in opposition to the goals espoused by the contemporary feminist movement. “The first truly modern beauty contest, involving the display of women's faces and figures before judges, can be traced to one of America's greatest showmen, Phineas T. Barnum (of circus fame)” ("People & Events: Origins of the Beauty Pageant"). Barnum’s beauty contest mandated that in order to participate one must submit a photograph of the contestant. Afterward, the photographs submitted would be displayed in his museum where citizens would vote for their favorite.

The AGAs bring to life the Chase Community Giving (CCG) program and makes it the first televised celebrity tribute to community heroes. The CCG program presents five charities an opportunity to share in $2 million in Chase grants so that they can continue with their mission of helping others in their community. “I am excited to be a presenter for a television special that is honoring charities who are making a difference,” said Campanella, who will present a grant to one of the charities. Facebook fans of Chase Community Giving and Chase online customers voted from December 1-8 to help determine how much each charity will receive. The winning charity will receive $1 million; the runner-up will receive $500,000; the third organization will receive $250,000 and the remaining two will receive $125,000.
