THE ALL-IN-ONE AUDIOBOOK for More Than Half a Century, C IN HONOR OF THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF C. S. LEWIS’ DEATH, CELEBRATED OXFORD DON DR. ALISTER MCGRATH PRESENTS US WITH A COMPELLING AND DEFINITIVE PORTRAIT OF THE LIFE OF C. S. LEWIS, THE AUTHOR OF THE WELL-KNOWN NARNIA SERIES. THE ALL-IN-ONE AUDIOBOOK For more than half a century, C. S. Lewis’ Narnia series has captured the imaginations of millions. In C. S. Lewis — A Life, Dr. Alister McGrath recounts the unlikely path of this Oxford don, who spent his days teaching English literature to the brightest students in the world and his spare time writing a best-selling fantasy series for children. Dr. McGrath uses his extensive research and thorough examination in chronological order of Lewis’ correspondence and archival materials to present a new picture of Lewis’s life. This definitive biography paints a portrait of an eccentric thinker who became a compelling, though reluctant, prophet for our times. You won’t want to miss this fascinating portrayal of a creative genius who inspired generations. ALISTER MCGRATH is professor of theology, ministry, and education at King’s College London and head of its Center for Theology, Religion, and Culture. Before moving to King’s College, he was professor of his- torical theology at Oxford University and is currently senior research fellow at Harris Manchester College at Oxford. Dr. McGrath is a best- selling author of more than fifty books and a popular speaker, traveling the world every year to speak at various conferences. Narrator ROBIN SACHS, was born and raised in London and trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. (2017). “My” hero or epic fail? Torchwood as transnational telefantasy. Palabra Clave, 20(3), 722-762. DOI: 10.5294/pacla.2017.20.3.7 Abstract Telefantasy series Torchwood (2006–2011, multiple production partners) was industrially and paratextually positioned as being Welsh, despite its frequent status as an international co-production. When, for series 4 (sub- titled Miracle Day, much as the miniseries produced as series 3 was subti- tled Children of Earth), the production (and diegesis) moved primarily to the United States as a co-production between BBC Worldwide and Amer- ican premium cable broadcaster Starz, fan response was negative from the announcement, with the series being termed Americanised in popular and academic discourse. This study, drawn from my doctoral research, which interrogates all of these assumptions via textual, industrial/contextual and audience analysis focusing upon ideological, aesthetic and interpretations of national identity representation, focuses upon the interactions between fan cultural capital and national cultural capital and how those interactions impact others of the myriad of reasons why the (re)glocalisation failed. It finds that, in part due to the competing public service and commercial ide- ologies of the BBC, Torchwood was a glocalised text from the beginning, de- spite its positioning as Welsh, which then became glocalised again in series 4.

  • (1977-1983) ANGUS MACKAY DIARY NO. 42 Tuesday November 1 1977
Angus Mackay Diaries Volume IV (1977-1983) ANGUS MACKAY DIARY NO. 42 Tuesday November 1 1977 David Buck told me that the London critics had been in last night, and that they'd written bad notices. Well. I wasn't too good tonight - my concentration wasn't there. A rather silly audience, and of course his remarks about the critics hadn't helped, I suppose. But whatever the cause, I must learn to concentrate, to grip myself and the audience more firmly. Wednesday November 2 1977 Dear Miriam Myloe came tonight, all the way from Cheltenham with Tony Rousefell. He was slightly less acidulated than before. I took them out to supper at Renato's opposite the theatre. Fairly primitive, paper napkins, vegetables on the plate etc. When they left, there was a gap while my taxi arrived. That is when a great grey cloud descends, and I dare not think. Or it will affect tomorrow's show. Grief can't be shared. Thursday November 3 1977 Power cut during matinee. Audience stimulated. Lovely house tonight - I was best yet. Friday November 4 1977 4.30 p.m. during a power cut. If I am to go on with this diary, it must become less boring. It is of course a help to write about my depression at the end of a day. Something like the comfort of talking to a friend comes to me, but of course the diary entry as it were, represents what has been missing in the day instead of what has been present in it.

This study focuses on the role of the fanfare from The Original Series title theme in foregrounding, concealing, or initiating Trek’s ideological tensions. By analyzing how the fanfare is complicit in Trek’s narrative and philosophical efforts—that is, its part in scoring a futuristic utopia— I uncover continuities and discontinuities within the franchise’s fifty years of production. Star Trek has become one of the largest brands of the twenty-first century: thirteen films, six television series, interactive concert performances, and thousands of fan creations. The contributions of the fanfare, a near-constant presence, are both lacking in study and vital to a more nuanced history of Trek’s growth.

Angus Mackay Diaries Volume XI (1991 - 1993) ANGUS MACKAY DIARY NO. 108 November 7 1991 – December 22 1991. Thursday November 7 1991 Got stuck with play over a simple bit of working out one speech. Bill for £300 odd for tax interest. To film as usual. The Fisher King. A pile-driver to drive in a pin. Terry Gilliam never knows when to stop. Another cursed with a visual imagination – they are never humble enough about words, - the reverse is not usually the case. Offered to take Janet out to supper, but happily for my money, she’s gone on a strict diet. Tomorrow, and horrors, to supper with Matt and the frightful Ruth. How is it that someone so intelligent as Matthew could be so obtuse as not to notice how S. and I shrink into careful distaste in her presence? American magazine editor. This has to be read word for word because we work very hard to get every word right. In Radio Times, Miriam Stoppard discusses sex in pregnancy and Russell Grant star- gazes. Friday November 8 1991 12.15 a.m. Cleaned and fiddled generally, mainly drawing-room. Geoff turned up at two-forty five and we had a pleasant chat. When I got back from the shops, he’d gone and has not yet come back. Message from a Trish saying is tomorrow night on or off? So I hoovered and tided and dusted, and bathed, all about five, so that I could sit down and write another scene from the play. It seems rather dull to me.
