Announces Acquisition of EVEN – Evolutionary Engineering AG 3 April 2013 ANSYS, Inc. and EVEN — Evolutionary Engineering AG ("EVEN"), a provider of composite analysis and optimization technology relying on cloud computing, announced that ANSYS has acquired EVEN, which will become ANSYS Switzerland, a wholly owned subsidiary of ANSYS, Inc. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Headquartered in Zurich, EVEN has 12 employees and has been a partner of ANSYS, offering EVEN's composite technologies through a product called ANSYS® Composite PrepPost™. This product is tightly integrated with ANSYS Mechanical™ in ANSYS Workbench™ and with ANSYS Mechanical APDL. EVEN also provides best-in-class engineering services in composites applications and in other areas in its fields of expertise. Composites blend two or more materials that possess very different properties. Because they combine light weight, high strength and outstanding flexibility, composites have become standard materials for manufacturing in a range of industries, including automotive, aerospace, energy, marine, motorsports and leisure. As a result, the use of composites has grown dramatically in the last decade. This popularity has fostered the need for new design, analysis and optimization technology. Since EVEN is a leader in composite simulation, this acquisition emphasizes the high priority ANSYS is giving to this emerging technology. Composites pose many challenges for R&D teams that need to identify the appropriate formulation for a required use. To successfully produce layered composites, engineers must define the optimal material formula — which depends on the number of layers involved along with the thickness and relative orientation of each layer. ANSYS Composite PrepPostis a pre- and post-processing solution for layered composite materials integrated into the ANSYS software portfolio. The solution empowers users to efficiently model the most complex composite structures and, at the same time, fully understand the potential failure of product models. Users can subject product designs to simple physical stresses and compute progressive damage, delamination and cracking. The technology's post-processing capabilities enable users to conduct in-depth investigations of ultimate product integrity and behavior. Users can view global results or conduct detailed analysis at the level of individual layers. Page 2 CIMdata PLM Industry Summary "We are very pleased that our long-standing partner relationship with the EVEN team has resulted in EVEN becoming part of the ANSYS family," said Jim Cashman, president and CEO of ANSYS. "Composites simulation is a fast growing market with application across multiple industries, broadening our industry knowledge and competencies in this area. The tight coupling of the EVEN products within our platform is highly beneficial, so we look forward to working with the EVEN employees and customers." This study shows the reader how to reach MBE Level step by step. The purpose of this study is also testing the creation and the visualization of PMI. The theory chapter describes what the terms PMI, MBD, and MBE are and how they are related to one another. The theory describes the usefulness and the risks of using MBD. The theory also includes the file format, the CAD program and the visualization program. The method of this study is an exploratory case study. The result includes a process scheme of how MBE can be adopted. It explains step by step where to start and how to proceed. The process scheme proceeds from 2D drawing to MBE level. The result also shows how the PMI data can be created in NX11. It shows an easy version of the 3D model, including PMI data, which may be displayed on a laptop or a mobile device. In the discussion the result is analyzed. Issues and notifications are presented on how the PMI was issued and how it is displayed. The negative and the positive aspects about adapting the model is analyzed.

  • 3D Shape Engineering and Design Parameterization
681 3D Shape Engineering and Design Parameterization Kuang-Hua Chang1 and Chienchih Chen2 1University of Oklahoma, [email protected] 2University of Oklahoma, [email protected] ABSTRACT This paper presents a brief review and technical advancement on 3D shape engineering and design parameterization in reverse engineering, in which discrete point clouds are converted into feature-based parametric solid models. Numerous efforts have been devoted to developing technology that automatically creates NURBS surface models from point clouds. Only very recently, the development was extended to support parametric solid modeling that allows significant expansion on the scope of engineering assignments. In this paper, underlying technology that enables such advancement in 3D shape engineering and design parameterization is presented. Software that offers such capabilities is evaluated using practical examples. Observations are presented to conclude this study. Keywords: reverse engineering, design parameterization, auto-surfacing. DOI: 10.3722/cadaps.2011.681-692 1 INTRODUCTION 3D scanning technology has made enormous progress in the past 25 years [1]; especially, the non- contact optical surface digitizers. These scanners or digitizers become more portable, affordable; and yet capturing points faster and more accurately. A hand-held laser scanner captures tens of thousands points per second with a level of accuracy around 40 m, and can cost as low as fifty thousand dollars, such as a ZScanner 800 [2]. Such technical advancement makes the scanners become largely accepted and widely used in industry and academia for a broad range of engineering assignments. As a result, demand on geometric modeling technology and software tools that support efficiently processing large amount of data points and converting them into useful forms, such as NURBS (non-uniform rational B- spline) surfaces, become increasingly higher.

  • FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Transmagic Ships R12 – Enhanced
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TransMagic Ships R12 – Enhanced MBD Utilization from CATIA, NX, JT & PRO/E New PMI View Browser and Tech Docs Features to Displace Tedious Manual Processes June 22, 2016, Westminster, CO – TransMagic, Inc., a leader in CAD data translation, geometry repair and model validation announced the new generation of 3D CAD productivity solutions, now available in Release 12. The focal point of the release is the easy handling of complex annotations in any 3D format for Model Based Definition (MBD) and Product Manufacturing Information (PMI). The new capabilities can save time and prevent errors in manufacturing and quality checking. The advancements in R12 were achieved in part through collaboration with major aerospace and automotive customers to streamline a broad range of detailed manual processes that rely on access to design annotations and instructions to increase productivity. Also in the Release, TransMagic has updated CAD version support for all major formats, added new lightweight formats that simplify design communication with customers and suppliers, and updated support for hybrid CATIA files. New additions to the product include technical document publishing in 3D PDF, multiple new rendering modes, and language support. Enhanced Model Based Definition (MBD) Usability TransMagic has expanded PMI (Product Manufacturing Information) and MBD capabilities to support annotated section views. All annotated views are indexed for rapid access in the new PMI View Browser. These views make it easy to find specific callouts. The PMI views can be saved out to 3D PDF or MS Excel formats with a single click and used to streamline quality control and shop floor operations that rely on precise tolerances and work instructions.
