TIt is with sincere gratitude that I recognize such a remarkable legacy of support for servicemen and women and their loved ones. From the very beginning, the Society's mission has been accomplished through the selfless, day-to-day commitment of faithful volunteers. These remarkable men and women devote precious hours of their lives to serve others. They ensure Sailors and Marines can travel to the bedside of an ailing loved one, pay for food and lodging when a natural disaster strikes, and successfully navigate personal financial crisis. In 2014, Society volunteers gave more than 521,900 hours of their time to provide financial assistance, budget counseling, budget for baby workshops, and staffing for thrift shops – all in support of Navy and Marine Corps families. With oversight and assistance from a small cadre of employees, the daily administration and fiduciary responsibilities of the Society are fulfilled with the highest ethical and professional standards. On behalf of all our Sailors, Marines, and their families, It is with heartfelt gratitude that I say thank-you to the I salute the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society and wish many donors who support the Society through generous you all the best for another successful year in 2015. contributions, monthly allotments from active duty and retiree pay checks, workplace giving programs, and Sincerely, corporate philanthropy. Society volunteers and employees play an important role in ensuring our men and women remain focused on their war-fighting mission, knowing that their families and loved ones will be taken care of when family emergencies arise. The Society’s registered nurses made more than 23,000 home visits and other contacts with mothers and their newborns, elderly retirees, widows and widowers. Additionally, the Society’s combat casualty assistance visiting nurses made more than 39,000 contacts and visits to the rehabilitation facilities and homes of 1,700 combat-wounded service members. No other government or charitable organization can provide that kind of personal, one-on-one emotional support and knowledge of community resources for our men and women adjusting to post-combat life. Like the Marine Corps itself, the Society ensures these Marines and Sailors will not be forgotten. “By our own, for our own” is a way of life for those who Semper Fidelis, serve. The Society has carried out that commitment and stood by Marine Corps and Navy families for more than a century. Thank-you for your steadfast devotion to all who wear the Eagle, Globe and Anchor.
