PACK THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING! SAVE OUR ORANGE SCHOOLS Our local schools need more money and educational opportunities, not less!

Attend the City Council Meeting at 6pm Tuesday, March 13 (300 E. Chapman Ave.) Impacts of Proposed Charter School 1. PROJECTED ADDITION OF 772 STUDENTS TO THE ALREADY OVERCROWDED COMMUNITY The projected enrollment of 772 students and intended location near means pickup and dropoffs in OTO requiring over a 1000 trips a day into our neighborhoods. There currently is no local infrastructure capable of handling a school of this size

2. LOSS OF REVENUE FOR OUR PUBLIC SCHOOLS Declining enrollments due to demographic shifts are severely impacting public school budgets. The loss of students requires reducing programs for our public school students. An additional loss of 772 students would require even further cuts. An example would be cutting Art and Music across all of our district elementary schools. OUSD schools need MORE funding, not less.

3. LACK OF NECESSITY AND LEADERSHIP This charter school model is based on full inclusion for special needs students. OUSD has invested more funds to ensure inclusive education for all students than any district in Orange County. The proposed Executive Director has zero experience in any school leadership position, she lacks a teaching credential and administrative credential. The proposed CFO has no accounting or finance background but will be responsible for $6-$8 million in public funds. The charter school will operate outside the scope/support/ oversight of OUSD

4. ZERO LOCAL CONTROL Having been denied by the OUSD school board the fate of this school lies in the hands of the Orange County Board of Education. If they approve this Charter there will be no local control, or say, in how or where this school might operate. The opportunity to comingle public dollars meant to support our local students could readily help fund the expenses of the Chapman University school of education.

5. OUR LOCAL LEADERS HAVE ALREADY SAID “NO” OUSD has already DENIED the charter school and the charter school is trying to go around the local decision by appealing to the Orange County Board of Education. Call/Email OC Board of Education 714-966-4012 / [email protected] We need you to show support for City Council to contact the Orange County Board of Education. Sit in the Council Chambers and wear a Respect Orange Sticker to show support! Speak if you Wish RespectOrange.org OUSD does not support this charter school and has already DENIED the application. The charter school is trying to go around the local decision by appealing to the Orange County Board of Education.
