Paladyn. Journal of Behavioral Robotics invites manuscripts for the Special Issue on Advances in Developmental Robotics. This topical issue is dedicated to the Developmental Robotics and related applications and is aimed at presenting an overview of the present trends in this field.

This special issue will solicit the extended versions of the best research articles from the Postgraduate Conference on Robotics and Development of Cognition (RobotDoC-PhD). This conference is an initiative as a part of Marie-Curie Actions ITN RobotDoC and will be organized as a satellite event of the 22nd International Conference on Artificial Neural Networks ICANN 2012. According to the multidisciplinary character of the RobotDoC project, the RobotDoC-PhD Conference will try to highlight the importance of fostering collaborations among different scientific fields in order to move substantially forward the research studies in developmental . The editorial committee will select papers which fall within the scope of the issue. The special issue also invites manuscripts from other interested researchers as well. The scope of the topical issue includes but is not limited to:

• developmental and epigenetic robotics • social interaction: social development, social motivation in • embodied and situated cognition children, joint attention • neuro-inspired robotics: e.g. motor control, • sensorimotor learning manipulation, memory, navigation • higher-order cognitive learning, e.g. formation of abstract • motivational and affective mechanisms: e.g. concepts, mathematical cognition emotional mechanisms in the brain and their • any work in the core disciplines of developmental robotics modeling (i.e. humanoid robotics, cognitive science, artificial • : e.g. cognitive intelligence, developmental psychology, ) which development and its computational modeling has significant implications for developmental robotics
