SECOND COLLECTION THIS SUNDAY: Father Jose writes: ‘This Sunday there will be a second collection for the Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales, also known as Fransalians, which is an international missionary religious congregation founded in Annecy, , on 24th October 1838 by the Servant God Fr. Peter Mermier under the patronage of St. Francis de Sales. The charism of the congregation is: to live the spirit and spirituality of St. Francis de Sales which has found expression in the foundational apostolates in which the founder himself express the threefold char- ism. They are: to bring about the renewal of Christian life, to undertake overseas missions and pioneering evangelization, and education and formation of the young in the spirit of St. Francis de Sales. Today the Congregation has 11 provinces and over 1080 perpetually professed members. The Fransalians came to England in 1861 and became a province in 1965. The Fransalians are now in Europe, North and South America, Africa, Australia, and come countries of Asia. Your and fi- nancial support will help us to extend our work to more countries and strengthen the existing ones. For many years this parish too is served by the Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales. A FUTURE FULL OF HOPE - The Year of : 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time There is a simple message in today’s warning us to be wary of placing too much emphasis on acquiring more and more possessions. Very often wealth is seen as a marker of who we are in the eyes of the world. Yes, wealth can enable us to have a decent house, allow our children to go to the right school, enjoy holidays and much more. We can be proud of what we achieve as the rich man is in our parable. But in whose eyes are we rich? Rich in the sight of the world or rich in the sight of God? It’s a struggle for us. The Church encourages us to ‘live simply’ with integrity and humility. Living by these values allows us to depend on our inner resources. They allow us to rec- ognise that all we have is gift given to us, not to hold onto for ourselves, but to share with the world for the good of the world, so that all may benefit. This is what matters. At the moment of our calling from this world we will be judged not by how much we have but how much we have loved. MISSIONARIES OF SAINT FRANCIS DE SALES APPEAL: Father Jean -Patrice writes: I have asked Father Jose to make the annual appeal for our Congregation. I hope parishioners appreciate that he is a missionary far from his home in India, and that his presence helps us to have a priestly presence in our parish that is much more than many other par- ishes in this time of fewer priests. Your contribution goes to the English Province, but we do receive appeals from other parts of the Congrega- tion for various projects. Your generosity will help us to meet more of these requests. Three different projects are included here to give you an idea of the work our Fathers are doing around the world. Thank you for the safe drinking water: Fr. Ranjit Tirkey, msfs “Dear Father, Here we are pleased to send you the ‘Thank You Letter’ and the fi- nancial report of the Drinking Water Project which you have helped us to facilitate the people in Mozambique. Thank you for the help and the support that you gave us. The Delegation of Mozambique is very happy and wants to thank you with heartfelt gratitude to you all. We opened two bore wells in St. Anthony Parish, Ma- vila, where we are working from the year 2007 which was totally abandoned by the civil war. The Parish has 27 sub-centers/out-stations. And right now 3 msfs fathers are rendering services in that parish. Even though that money was not sufficient but it was a great help for the mission of Mozambique and very especially in the place of Mavila and Zandamela, where the 2 bore wells are opened. Surely the poor people will be benefited with your kind gesture and help. Still we are in need, to put the hand pump/motor, also the water tank, which is yet to be made, bought and fixed. Hope we will get some more help in the future to open many more bore wells with the hand pump to facilitate the drinking water for the poor people of Mozambique. Many other communities/sub-centers too required your same help.” Africa thirsts. We can help them with safe drinking water if we dig a borehole with 5000 Euros or buying a Sim Tank of 10,000 Ltrs of rain water with 1000 Euros. Save the Child in Need: Making a child to Blossom - Fr Emile Pau- lin Amougou Amougou, msfs The Missionaries of Saint Francis de Sales (MSFS or Fransalians) in Chad -Cameroon strongly believe in the power of education. Through com- bined efforts, we are able to follow up various programs in favour of the less privileged children. One of the most promising programs in the field of education is the sponsor a child program. Since few years now, spon- sor a child program in Chad-Cameroon is being writing a lovely story of a difference in the lives of many boys and girls. It is a story of life changing experience not only for the child sponsored but for his entire family which can smile anew, cherishing the dream of a different child for a better future. Dear friends and benefactors, by empowering chil- dren through quality education you are enabling them to break the cycle of poverty into which they are born. It is the story of the defeat of pov- erty. By stretching your hand to help a child in dare need, you build new lives and doing so you are defeating indifference in the hearts of those whose love grow colder. In our lives, it is the story of light when dark- ness draws nearer. In our cities and villages, you write down a story of hope where despair has taken the main seat. Without the help of our sponsors, the children supported by the program would have little hope of securing a genuine smile. Thank you for the difference you all make in our lives. Showers of blessings from the Lord. (In Chad and Came- roon, we are sponsoring 120 children, there are many more on the wait- ing list. One child can be sponsored with 10 Euros per month for at least seven years) FASCE India: An MSFS-NGO to promote Integral Human Development Fr. YEOVIL VIRTUAL PRAYER ROOM: Mark Felstead writes: ‘Dear praying friends, We are greatly encouraged that there are already 20 people praying in the Virtual Prayer Room on Sunday morning across Yeovil, and we wait expectantly upon God for all the gifts and fruitfulness that he has in store for us and for His Kingdom in our town and ar- ea. Please see information on the bulletin attached about what God has been doing al- ready and do share any experiences you have for the mutual encouragement of all those praying. We invite you to join with us in asking God for people to pray with us from eve- ry church in Yeovil (and surrounding area, too), to build up our unity in Christ and the shared mission of the Body. You might find that John 15:1-17 is a helpful resource for praying for the Church in Yeovil. As coordinators, we are praying that you will experi- ence the Spirit’s power, love, joy and peace as we continue to pray together.’ Bulletin 1st August 2019 - We give thanks for what God is already doing amongst us in the Virtual Prayer Room as we prayed together in the Spirit on our first Sunday, 28th July. Through some of the feedback already re- ceived we learn there has been: • personal experience of the power of the Holy Spirit during prayer • unity in prayer across our family of different churches • a desire to pray for longer than 15 minutes! • a desire to incorporate the themes into our daily prayer times • a desire to share the VPR with more people Gospel of John 15:1-17 : Jesus is the True Vine Jesus is challenging the Church in Yeovil to remain in Him - Jesus, the True Vine, is the One in whom all may have life, growth and fruitfulness. See how the Father lovingly tends and cares for the Vine - this involves getting rid of what is dead, and pruning in order to bring on more fruit. (15:2) As His Church in Yeovil we will heed Jesus’ challenge to be living, not dead, branches by remaining in Him (15:5-8), which means: • obedience to Jesus’ instructions, especially in loving one another (15:10- 12) • remaining in His love and knowing His joy (15:11) • embracing the honour of being more than Jesus’ servants - He calls us His friends (15:15) As the Church of Jesus’ friends in Yeovil we are promised knowledge of what Jesus is doing amongst us (15:15). As fruit-bearing branches we are promised plenty of answered prayer as we pray in agreement in the name of Jesus. (15:7;16) By our response to the call to pray together in unity, we are attentive to Jesus’ words (15:17) ‘These things I command you, so that you will love one another’. Please join with us again on Sunday in praying that the Lord will call at least one person from every church in Yeovil to join the prayer room. You are invited to share any feedback, words or pictures from God, answered prayers etc. for the mutual encouragement of those praying: [email protected] Mass and Service Times for the Week Ahead Saturday 3rd August - First Mass of Sunday 5.00pm Paulo Varghese RIP (Mr and Mrs Baby Varghese) Holy Ghost Sunday 4th August - Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time 9.00am Pro Populo St Michael’s 10.30am Holy Souls (Box) Holy Ghost 6.00pm Prayers for a Summer Evening (Anglican Church of St Michael) East Lambrook 6.30pm Maria Budzynska RIP (Mrs A Robus) Holy Ghost Monday 5th August - Weekday in Ordinary Time 10.00am In Thanksgiving - Adoncia Thomas (9th Birthday) (Mr and Mrs Holy Ghost Thomas ) Tuesday 6th August - Feast of the Transfiguration 10:00am Bernard Mahoney RIP (The Mahoney Family) Holy Ghost Wednesday 7th August - Memorial of Saint Cajetan, Priest 10:00am In Thanksgiving (Mr Thomas Joseph) Holy Ghost Thursday 8th August - Memorial of Saint Dominic, Priest 8:00am No Mass this morning Holy Ghost 10.00am Celebrant’s Intention St Michael’s 12.15pm Next Mass 5th September 2019 RNAS Yeovilton 6.30pm Intentions of Thomas and Katie Brennan (Mr and Mrs F Brennan) Holy Ghost Friday 9th August - Feast of Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross () , Martyr, Patron of Europe 10.00am Molly Kiernan RIP (Miss R Hawkey) Holy Ghost Followed by Adoration (Benediction at 11.15pm) VIGIL OF S LAWRENCE M III CL 6.00pm Jane Southgate RIP (Mrs P Southgate) Holy Ghost Latin Mass in the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite Saturday 10th August - Feast of Saint Lawrence, Deacon, Martyr 10.00am In Thanksgiving (Mr Thomas Joseph) Holy Ghost First Mass of Sunday 5.00pm Holy Souls (Box) Holy Ghost Sunday 11th August - Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time 9.00am Margaret Rose Alice Bennett RIP(Foundation Mass) St Michael’s 10.30am Intentions of Jim Fitzpatrick (80th Birthday) (Mr and Mrs M Gulliver) Holy Ghost 6.00pm Prayers for a Summer Evening (Coke Memorial Methodist Church) South Petherton 6.30pm Pro Populo Holy Ghost
