For the record, infrastructure is the large-scale public systems, services, and facilities of a region that are necessary to support economic activity and quality of life . Other systems of infrastructure that are not readily seen by the public are the underground water, sewer, and utility pipes, flood control systems that protect us from storm water runoff, and solid waste facilities . These are the “unsung heroes” of infrastructure, and are only a concern when they do not work . For example, turning on the faucet and nothing coming out, flushing the toilet and having it back-up, or putting out your trash, and no one picks it up .
