Council president Dalina Supports Fords business Community Council President Rick Dalina announced that many businesses, shops and restaurants have officially formed the Fords’ Business Community (FBC) – a consolidated organization to advance business interests and stimulate business along New Brunswick Avenue. The FBC is an alliance of dues-paying businesses dedicated to working together to improve the Fords, Hopelawn and Keasbey communities. FBC President and Owner of the European School of Dance Jane McLaughlin has organized the Fords business district and has marshalled resources to address long-standing challenges of customer and employee parking along the New Brunswick Avenue business corridor. Councilwoman Meehan Supports “Have-A-Heart” Food Drive Council Vice-President Debbie Meehan has taken the lead in advancing the annual “Have-A-Heart” Food Drive Challenge which challenges local businesses to donate 214 pounds of food or $214 to assist Township food pantries. Councilwoman Meehan coordinates the Colonia Business Community’s food drive efforts, hosts the annual Taste of Colonia, and spearheads other events that result in thousands of dollars in donations and tons of food. Councilman Ficarra Announces April as Youth Month Councilman Gregg Ficarra oversees the annual Youth Month celebration - one of the most active (and successful) community programs. The Mayor’s Youth Volunteer Award Program – which honors and recognizes Township young adults for their volunteer efforts and projects – is set for Sunday, April 23 at the Woodbridge Community Center. Big Wheels Day is Wed., April 19 at Woodbridge Center Mall. And, don’t forget about Wellness Woodbridge activities and all of the upcoming events: Woodbridge Run for Pizza on July 6, the Annual Labor Day Crossroads 5K race and fun run on Sunday, Sept. 3 and the annual Tour d’ Woodbridge bike Tour set for Sunday, Sept. 24.

Councilwoman DeJesus Announces Youth & Government Day Student leaders from Woodbridge-area high schools will get a first-hand look at the daily workings of municipal government as Councilwoman Lizbeth DeJesus hosts the annual Youth in Government Day at Woodbridge Town Hall on Tuesday, May 23. The program brings students to Town Hall for an inside look at municipal government. The student government leaders participate in an Administration staff meeting; conduct a Council meeting; attend Municipal Court proceedings; and tour the operational departments of Municipal government.

Councilman Spillar Announces Avenel Community Day Councilman Cory Spillar announced that the Avenel Day Parade & Festival is set for Saturday, May 20, 2017. The parade steps off at noon and marches to Mayor Frank G. Pelzman Memorial Park. Students from Avenel Street School 4/5 and Woodbine Avenue School 23, the Avenel Fire Department, Avenel Colonia First Aid Squad, Avenel VFW Post #7164, American Irish Association, and dozens of Avenel businesses, community associations are expected to participate.

Councilman Small Hails port Reading First Aid Squad Councilman Brian Small recognized Port Reading First Aid Squad members EMT Dennis Seguine, EMT Emily Kilgore and Attendant Haley Thomas for their life-saving actions in response to a Medical Assist Call-for- Service in the Port Reading section. Upon arriving at the scene, the EMT crew encountered a male patient outside of a residence who advised he was experiencing severe chest pain. The crew placed the patient in the ambulance, he then went into cardiac arrest. The EMTs began CPR, initiated the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and administered a resuscitation shock. The EMTs continued CPR and AED while in transport to the hospital made it possible for the patient to regain a pulse and normal breathing. The patient made a full recovery.
