Language list English Language of Material Spanish Context Biographical Note Born in León, Spain 1896, died in Madrid 1936; legendary anarchist, steel worker; active in the Confederación Nacional del Trabajo (CNT) and member of the anarchist group Los Solidarios, which killed cardinal Soldevilla in the struggle against the `pistoleros'; fled to Argentina, involved in bank robberies to raise funds for anarchist publications and sentenced to death; fled to other Latin American countries and later to France; imprisoned; hid in Berlin and Belgium; returned to Spain in 1931; involved in strikes and anarchist revolts in 1931 and 1933; imprisoned and deported; one of the heroes of the 19th of July 1936 in Barcelona, where the workers defeated the military uprising, organized and led the militia column `Durruti' into Aragón; killed in the defence of Madrid.
