Martin Short to Headline 21st Annual Comedy Night Sponsored by Forgotten Harvest and

OAK PARK, MICH.—[February 13, 2013]—Presenting sponsors Forgotten Harvest and Funny Or Die announced today that Martin Short, will headline the 21st Annual Comedy Night in Detroit on April 27, 2013 at the Detroit Opera House. Comedy Night is an annual charity event that supports Forgotten Harvest’s mission of eliminating hunger by eliminating food waste.

Tickets are on sale at 10:00 a.m. and can be purchased by visiting Forgotten Harvest at www.forgottenharvest.org, Ticketmaster or in person at the Detroit Opera House box office. Ticket prices start under $20. The show is family friendly and recommended for ages 12 and up. Comedy Night, which began in 1992 with the support of television and film star and local native Tim Allen and Detroit area comedy impresario Mark Ridley, has become Metro Detroit’s premier annual comedy event, bringing in well-known stars such as Tim Allen, Seth Meyers, The Smothers Brothers, Richard Jeni, Kevin Pollack, Kevin Meaney, Louie Anderson, David Coulier and Kathleen Madigan.

Forgotten Harvest welcomes Funny Or Die’s support for the second year. Funny Or Die, one of the web’s top destinations for comedy and an organization that has already thrown its support behind Forgotten Harvest through “Robocharity for Forgotten Harvest.” Funny Or Die created and published a video appeal in 2011 featuring Peter Weller, star of the movie ” Robocop,” urging metro Detroiters to make donations to Forgotten Harvest. The “Robocharity for Forgotten Harvest” movement was generated by Garry Whitta, screenwriter for the movie “Book of Eli”, Ron Marz, CBR columnist and Ryan Meray, a local business owner around the famous initiative to have a statue of RoboCop dedicated in Detroit. Southeastern natives Mike and Christopher Farah of Funny Or Die were instrumental in securing last year’s comedian, Seth Meyers and Martin Short for 2013 and are excited about the opportunity to help Forgotten Harvest fight hunger in Metro Detroit. “This is a chance for us to help comedy make a difference in our home state, and we’re happy to be working with an organization like Forgotten Harvest,” said Mike Farah, President of Production at Funny Or Die. “There’s a great tradition to Comedy Night and we’re looking forward to helping take it even further into the future to fight hunger in Metro Detroit.”

Martin Short, a celebrated comedian and actor, has won fans and accolades in television, film and theater since his breakout season on almost 30 years ago. His popularity and exposure on Saturday Night Live led Short to cross over quickly into feature films. He made his debut in Three Amigos and followed with Inner Space, Three Fugitives, Clifford, Pure Luck and Tim Burton’s Mars Attacks. One of Short’s most memorable roles was in the remake of Father of the Bride, as Franck the wedding planner, a role he reprised a few years later in Father of the Bride Part II. Short will be featured in the upcoming animated film Madagascar 3 and the Tim Burton film Frankenweenie. Currently, Short can be seen on the CBS hit comedy series How I Met Your Mother in the recurring role of Garrison Cootes. His voice can be heard as the Cat in the critically acclaimed PBS series Cat In The Hat Knows A Lot About That.
