The Last Wife The Merritt Award-winning, Dora Award-nominated Stephanie MacDonald takes pride in playing tough women—"like your cousin who isn't gonna let that shit slide at family dinner," she tells The Coast. Here, she brings her considerable talent and same ain't-no- pushover attitude to the role of Catherine Parr in Neptune's season opener, The Last Wife. A play about the careful dance of power and progress, see MacDonald and Jodee Richardson (who plays leading man as King Henry VII) as the ultimate power couple. Disney Frozen Jr. Take a trip to the frosty world of Elsa and Anna with this play based on the Broadway musical of the same name. Neptune Theatre, 1593 Argyle Street, Sep 18-22, $19.95 Focus Cia de Dança The Brazilian dance troupe—and our cover stars —Focus Cia de Dança arrives in Halifax thanks to Live Art Dance and Prismatic Arts Festival, ready to wow with Ímpar. The troupe have toured extensively throughout Europe and the US, delivering dance inspired by daily life in Rio de Janeiro since 1997. Rings Through Water Coast theatre critic Micheal Lake bills this, the latest show by Xara Choral Theatre, as "part ode to water protectors, part call to action." Anne of Green Gables: The Ballet Ballet Jörgen and Symphony Nova Scotia have combined forces to deliver this redux of the story of the girl from Avonlea; a freckle-faced, feel-good show that makes its world premiere here in Halifax. Atlantic Flamenco Festival: Dance As If Nobody Is Watching The queen of stomping feet and coiling wrists, Marie Osende herself, storms the stage—backed with her full ensemble—for the highlight show of this year's Atlantic Flamenco Festival. Trixie Mattel: Skinny Legend The grand dame of drag—and winner of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars' third season—arrives at the Spatz to take it from Thanksgiving to ThanksLIVING. Spatz Theatre, 1855 Trollope Street, Oct 11, 9pm, $40-$100

Alan Lake Factori(e) Live Art Dance brings this Quebec City phenom to town for its rich, gilded performance Le cri des méduses. Choreographed by Alan Lake and incorporating Théodore Géricault's painting "The Raft of the Medusa," the audience is left with a vision of humanity adrift. Old Stock: A Refugee Love Story The 2018 Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia Masterworks Arts Award-winning play by 2B Theatre arrives at Neptune after wowing critics during a stint in New York. See Ben Caplan take a star turn in this folk music-theatre hybrid tracing the true story of two Jewish-Romanian refugees coming to Canada in 1908.
