It has affected all of us but has hit the music industry particularly hard. Lost gigs and live performances means a devastating blow to an already challenged industry. Now, more so than ever before, artists need alternative and multiple revenue streams to sustain their careers. That is why Music PEI started the Canadian Song Conference in 2015—to explore the world of royalties, syncs, label agreements, publishing, and more, including the art of songwriting. The 2020 Canadian Song Conference will be held entirely online this year, with virtual panels hosted on Zoom and led by established industry professionals. A big part of the CSC is the Canadian Songwriter Challenge. Music PEI connects artists from participating provincial MIA’s together with PEI songwriters to write and record songs together. For the first time, Music PEI has added a stellar lineup of producers to work with the artists in the recording process. Another important element of the conference is the Listening Sessions, wherein the Song Challenge artists—alongside other PEI artists—play their recordings for participating delegates. The Canadian Song Conference Online is very grateful for support from Bell Media, the Province of PEI, ACOA, and FACTOR through the Canadian Public Radio Broadcasters and the Government of Canada. We are also grateful for our partnerships with Music/Musique NB, MusicOntario, Manitoba Music, Sask Music, Alberta Music, Music BC and Music Yukon. We hope you enjoy the Canadian Song Conference! Opting to chart both routes simultaneously, Menzie has delivered his most eclectic and ambitious collection to date with Lost in Dreams. It draws influence from a diversity of sources, including folk icons of decades past and contemporary innovators.Consider it the soundtrack to your next nighttime drive to nowhere in particular, and don’t be afraid to veer down some previously-unexplored paths. She works from home writing tunes and raising babies while trying to stay caught up on laundry—and she’ll be damned if that doesn’t make for some excellent and totally relatable songwriting material. Her 15 years of classical voice training and 10 years of folk singing have definitely primed the pump as she continues to evolve as a singer, a songwriter, and a human being.
