This issue is especially dedicated to WBerjaya Corporation Bhd for its continuous support towards the National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia. BOARD OF GOVERNORS In this issue, you will read how Berjaya Corporation Bhd helped us to raise President RM 170,000 which we used to renovate and develop the “NKF-Berjaya Resource Y. Bhg. Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Abu Bakar Suleiman Centre”, for our patients. Its subsidiary, Singer Malaysia, also raised another RM 52,000 to help us manage the resource centre for another 2 years. We highlighted Deputy President all the activities being carried out in our resource centre and we hope our patients Y. Bhg. Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Jeffrey Cheah will take the opportunity to participate in the many interesting activities being Vice-President organised for them. Mr. Lynn Kulasingham We are also proud to share with you a story about our 101 year old patient who currently seeks dialysis treatment in our dialysis centre in Kluang. For the first time, the number of Gstudents increased to 40 as compared to the previous batch of 30 students. There were 14 NKF staff, 22 from private and other NGOs and 4 were from Pusat Latihan Polis. The students received their certificates from Mr Chua Hong Wee, CEO of NKF on their graduation day, 29th July 2011. Mr. Chua also presented the awards for 3 top students and the best student award went to Vijaya a/p Veloo, our very own staff from Fo Yi - NKF (Unit II) Dialysis Centre, Penang.     PROPERTY INSIGHTS Malaysia Quarter 2, 2011 Market Overview Executive summary • The Malaysian economy registered a slower growth of 4.6% year-on-year (YOY) in Q1 2011 following a growth of 4.8% YOY in Q4 2010. The economic growth in Q2 2011 could ease further with a lower level of exports and industrial production. • Prime office rents moved upwards slightly in Q2 2011 but continued to be under pressure with the anticipation of substantial supply in the pipeline (Figure 1). Figure 1 • The retail market continuesFigure 2 to be active but the increase in inflation could dampen consumer spending. Nevertheless, the sector remains optimistic with forecasted retail sale growth of 7% in Q2 2011 after registering growth of 5.1% in Q1 2011, 50% lower than forecasted earlier. • The residential sector is relatively quiet with selective new launches but affordable housing is a recurring theme for the Government to tackle. • The investment market enjoyed an active quarter driven by REITdeals with a focus on retail properties and commercial properties. Market sentiment remains tenant-favoured. • Notwithstanding forecasts for a lower growth rate in the retail sector, the local retail market continued to offer good prospects supported by strong economic fundamentals. • Despite a marginal dip in occupancy & average room rate, the hotel sector still performed admirably over 1H2011 thanks to a number of Government-led initiatives.
