1. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The report is prepared about the internship in the head office of PTV F-5/1. The duration of this internship was 8 weeks. PTV which is the state owned channel of the country has been operating in different cities of the country and it has been divided into segments which are news, entertainment and sports. The internship was done in two major departments of finance and personnel. Being and internee, the job was to maintain database, arranging meetings and some official work. Overall, the benefit of this internship was to get awareness about the professional environment which was helpful for the learning.

2. INTRODUCTION
2.1 Central Background Information Pakistan entered into Television Broadcasting age with a small pilot TV Station established at Lahore from where transmission was first beamed in Black &
White with effect from 26 November 1964. Television centers were established in Karachi and Rawalpindi/Islamabad in1967 and in Peshawar and Quetta in 1974 While introducing the sophisticated branch of the electronic media in the country, the broad perspective kept in mind was to inform and educate the people through wholesome entertainment and to inculcate in them a greater awareness of their own history, heritage, current problems and development as well as knowledge of the world at large.
2.2 Company Background Pakistan Television Corporation Limited (PTV) is a public limited company.
Government of Pakistan holds all its shares. The decision to establish a general-purpose television service with the participation of private capital and under the general supervision of the Government of Pakistan (GOP) was taken in October 1963.
Subsequently the GOP signed an agreement with Nippon Electronic Company of Japan, allowing it to operate two pilot stations in Pakistan. The first of these stations went on air in Lahore on 26 November 1964. On the completion of the experimental phase, a private limited company, called Television Promoters Limited was set up in 1965, which was converted into a public limited company in 1967. Television centers were established in Karachi and Rawalpindi/Islamabad in 1967 and in Peshawar and Quetta in 1974.PTV satellite transmission is round the clock. The transmission includes ETV and PTV world transmission. The Karachi Center commenced its transmission on November 2,

1967 and was the first full-fledged station housed in its own building fully and properly equipped with better technical extensive equipment for production by electronic methods it has four main color studios, including one designed and equipped for News. The professional quality of its varied program fare, be it music or drama has been of a top standard. The PTV-Karachi Center along with four Re- broadcast Stations at Thana Bola Khan, Shikarpur, Noorpur and Thando
Allahyar, connected to other RBSs in the country through Microwave link cover about 90% of the population. With the opening of PTV World, Pakistani programs are now being viewed in other parts of the world via satellite. PTV Lahore, pilot center started in collaboration with N.H.K. Company in a very small studio known as Studio 'C'
(with three Cameras, one Tape recorder, one 35mm Telecine, one 16mmTelecine and one Opaque Projector.) Studio 'C' was situated inside the Pakistan Broadcasting
Corporation, Lahore area, was started on 26-"-1964 six days in a week (Monday off- day) in black & white with a very limited staff. At that time, all Studio programs were telecast, "LIVE" as no VTR Recording machines were available, which were made available in the year 1968.A Pilot TV Center was formally inaugurated on December 5, 1974 at 2-Fort Road, Peshawar. It was Black & White Production/Transmitting
Center consisting of Recording Studio and a Booth for News/Announcement. On February 18,
1982 Main Color TV Center was inaugurated at 58Shahrah-e-Quaid-e-Azainwith Two
Production Studios,, One Announcement / News Studio, an Outdoor Broadcast Van &07 Nos. of portable outdoor recording units for News/Current Affairs and Programs. Government, whereas PTV had to contribute Rs. 9.7 million in the form of old/used equipment. Engineering Training Cell was established in 1978 to train PTV Engineers.
A similar cell was established for Production Training in 1984. Both these divisions had been working in rented buildings before moving to Academy’s building in 1988.
3. COMPANY’S ANALYSIS

31 rebroadcast station which are located in different regions all over the Pakistan which are very powerful and are linked with National Network of Micro waves offered by Pakistan Telecommunication Corporation.
This network of Pakistan Television covers about 87% of population, which is about 120 million, and 37.5% of area inside Pakistan and Azad Kashmir. National News Bureau at Islamabad News units at all Television Centers and at;

3.2 Financial Analysis The finance department of PTV deals with activities that are concerned with (RAE) Recording, Analyzing and
Evaluating of all transaction that are done with money. The finance department has a work to set budgets. The basic work of finance department is at headquarters as the income is only generated there. At centers only expenses are done which are to be recorded by the finance department. The others departments when ever want some equipment or any other thing for use they send a requisition to purchase department they purchase it after verifying

3.3 Human Resource Assessment Provident fund
The corporation operates provident fund scheme for all its employees who joined the corporation before july01, 1982. Equal monthly contribution are made both by the corporation and employees at the rate of 10% of basic pay.
Gratuity fund
The corporation also operates gratuity fund scheme for all its employees who have opted it and have joined before July 01, 1982. Monthly contributions are made by the corporation at the rate of 9% of basic pay.
Pension scheme
The corporation operates a pension scheme for all its employees who joined the corporation since 1982 with an option to the employees in service on such date to join this scheme.

The Programs, Plays, Shows, Events, Conversation etc. are all the product of PTV

The price of PTV is set according to the time slot in which the ad is being played.

PTV’s signals covers more than 90% of the local population and more than 53 countries worldwide. It reaches to the target population trough satellite and cable network.
Promotion
PTV promotes its upcoming programs by playing their trailers on the channel, advertising boards, through sending pamphlets of the programs to the companies.

There are no specific awards that are given to PTV. There are just some employees of PTV who have different national awards in sports like swimming, boxing, cricket, badminton etc. moreover PTV has made a lot of successes in a form that it has accomplished its determined goal very well. It has increased its business volume. It is the leading broadcasting channel of Pakistan.

5. ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS
5.1 Major Product Lines Market Segments PTV offers different products or services to its viewers through its seven different channels. The Drama’s Play shows, Singing Programs, News, Sports events, Conversations or Talk shows, Awards shows, live sports, Reality shows etc are the offered by PTV. PTV offers these products for both its viewers and customers. Moreover PTV also some services for its advertising customers like sending them frequent information of upcoming events, programs and dramas so that they may set strategies to play theirs Ad’s during these programs. PTV also provides extra services to its regular customers like record the special events organized by the client and give it in news on demand of the client. PTV offers service of allowing its regular customers to shoot its ad’s in PTV’s studio. It also plays various documentaries of its client on demand like documentaries of US AID and Turkish Culture are been played recently. All the above mentioned products of PTV can be divided in three parts:

This part covers the shows based on the current affairs, the daily happenings, conversations on different topics about politics.
Entertainment
This part contains the drama’s the show’s and films. In drama’s we have primetime drama, soaps, and comedy drama’s etc. while in shows PTV produces Game shows. Reality shows, Singing shows. In films we have tele- film’s that are shown occasionally
Sports
In this part PTV covers different sports shows, events or games play on PTV Sports channel. There are recorded events or some live events according to viewers interests. As these are the products during which the ads are played and these are a way to attract different companies to sponsor them and have their ad played. The actual thing that PTV sells is its time through which it generates its revenue. So the prices are set according to the

5.2 COMPETITOR ANALYSIS
5.2.1 Major Competitors
PTV Network is those channels which give its coverage directly from satellite and there is only one direct
competitor channel named as “ATV”. But with the passage of time and awareness of people the most
disadvantage point of decreasing viewership of PTV is cable network launched. And now there many
indirect competitors television network of PTV Network like GEO Network, ARY Network.
And other hands there are other several individual TV channel competitors like AAJ TV, HUM TV, TV
ONE, ARY Digital, Express Entertainment and GEO TV are the competitors of PTV Home channel
In news sector GEO, ARY News, Express News, SAMAA, DUNIA, WAQAT News, and News ONE
, BUSINESS PLUS etc. are the competitors of PTV News channel. In sports sector there is only
Pakistani private sports channel named “GEO Super” is the competitor of “PTV Sports” channel.
Moreover PTV Network is the lead in the sector as its maximum coverage in Pakistan.

5.3 Technology Analysis
Technology Methods That Affect the Industry
PTV uses the latest and best available technology for its function. Still some time it is affected by change in technology. It cannot rapidly shift from old to new technology. PTV has to adopt the technology because it has to represent country’s media at international level. If the speech of President or Prime Minister is to be given coverage it is done through PTV. So PTV has to keep its technology up to date. PTV gives its coverage through satellite. It is using 3Dtechnology. It is not currently using DTH (Direct to Home) service but is looking to shift towards it. PTV is also using old technology, but as a whole they are having very reliable and fault free technology

Strengths of PTV
PTV Network is only network in Pakistan which operate throw all modemslike satellites, cable, and
terrestrial.
PTV operating more than 50 countries of world, that increase its viewer ship and also increase the market
value.
PTV considered as a trustable channel which provide accurate information and that trust give good
market to PTV and also increase the viewer ship.
PTV Home is considered as a family channel and that provide quality dramas and programs, so people
refer it to play on home and that also increase viewer ship of PTV.
PTV also famous about its drama serials, people have craze for it and that serials are popular among the
people so PTV get high viewer ship, and the highest charges of PTV slots is also for that time in which
that serials play.

PTV is the defender of cultural and ethical boundaries of society in electronic media sector.
Weaknesses of PTV
PTV mostly used the old technology, so employees are unable to get access to use up to date technology.
Huge size of the organization is also a week point of PTV. There is difficult to manage accurately in all
fields to employees.
Due to own by government PTV bound under the government policies and has lack of freedom.
Communication gap between departments.
There is not a proper training facilitate to employees in PTV.
PTV have large number of employees and effect to increase cost.
Opportunities for PTV
Advertisement is a type of basic need for the corporations as increasing competition, so PTV
has opportunity to grape these advertisement and increase competition.
International growth potential due to the increasing community population across worldwide. As
population increasing so as migration of people from Pakistan to other countries, and those foreigner are
want to share and even learn our traditional rules or culture they want a platform and PTV have
opportunity to provide this facility to them.
PTV has highest ratio of coverage in Pakistan, so PTV has an opportunity to share its maximum
transmission to maximum peoples for the purpose of extension.
Due to have strong networking PTV has opportunity to easily launched new services.
Threats to PTV
Taxes on broadcasting sector are increasing day by day and that is destructive for the PTV in shape of low
profit.

Deterioration of law and order situation in any time in country is also another threat for the PTV.
Low rate of advertisement offer to customers by competitors is also threats for PTV.
Turnover of old employees due to attractive packages offers by competitors is a big threat for PTV.
Large number of competitors in the sector is also a threat for an organization, and now a days in television
broadcasting sector there is a big market and it is difficult for PTV to face the whole market.

In PTV, I was given different tasks and different duties to perform, which I tried to fulfill with full attention and devotion. My aim was to learn something because it was my first practical experience. It’s a good opportunity for me to start my career with a good start. Due to this internship I developed sense of responsibility in myself. I always try to get, learn things from this experience. Sometimes things get too tuff for me that I become tensed but due to the support of my seniors I manage to get out of that. In my 8 weeks work experience, I come across things which are as follows:

Maintaining Database In maintaining database I have given task to enter data electronically, the detail of products, inventory, orders by distributors/retailers, and other official records, also maintaining files, making them up to date according to organization’s requirement.
Arranging Meetings Meetings with personnel of different departments are held, my task was to make calls to those employees for setting times for meeting and confirmations about it, so that no other issue rises.
Official Work Office means a lot of documents, the task given to me were to manage documents in files, staple them, and clip them in files according to requirements. Making letters on MS Word and printing them, photocopy different documents as required in office, scanning of documents, sending E- mails.
8. IDENTIFICATION OF A MAIN PROBLEM
. PTV is a typical bureaucratic organization riddled with political interference and red
tapism.
. There is a lack of young and female employees. Most of the workers were in their 30s
and were predominantly male.
. The promotion policy in PTV is too much slow which creates discouragement among the
employees. Transfers and promotions are made on political basis.
. No proper networking among the functional areas of business that yield in high degree
of confusions and ultimately effects on efficiency of workers
9. RECOMMENDATIONS

. Decentralized policy should be adopted in PTV.
. Young and female employees should be given more chance to increase the diversity.
. There should be some specific strategy and policy of promotion and it should be strictly
followed so that the employees take interest in their duties.
