165 Years of Roman Rule on the Left Bank of the Danube. at The
92 Chapter III PROVINCIA DACIA AUGUSTI: 165 years of Roman rule on the left bank of the Danube. At the beginning of the 2nd century, in the Spring of 101AD, Roman Forces marched against the Kingdom of Decebal. We already know what the Roman's rationale was for starting this war and we also know that the real reason was likely to have been the personal ambition of the first Provincial Emperor, Trajan (he was born in Hispania a man of Macedonian background among Greeks). The Roman armies marched against a client-state of Rome, which was a subordinate ally of Rome. Decebal did not want to wage war against Rome and his recurring peace offers confirm this. It is unlikely that Trajan would only have decided on the total conquest of the Dacian Kingdom after he waged his first campaign in 101-102. After this, Roman garrisons were established in the Province - their ongoing presence is reflected by the Latin names of towns (as recorded by Ptolemy). At Dobreta they begin to build the stone bridge which will span the Danube. It was built in accordance with plans made by Apollodorus of Damascus to promote continuous traffic - it was an accomplishment unmatched - even by Rome. This vast project portends that Trajan began the expedition against Dacia in 101 with the intention of incorporating the Kingdom into the Roman Empire. The Emperor, who founded a city (Nicopolis) to commemorate his victory over Dacia, has embarked on this campaign not only for reasons of personal ambition. The 93 economic situation of the Empire was dismal at the beginning of Trajan's reign; by the end of the second Dacian War it has vastly improved. -
On the Defence of Aurariae Dacicae
Near and Beyond the Roman Frontier. -
Onomasticon Daciae (I). Die Patronymika Der Provinz Dacia Porolissensis
Adela Paki ONOMASTICON DACIAE (I). -
Newsletter: New Records in the Getty Vocabularies
Newsletter: New records in the Getty Vocabularies For the period January-June 2021 From the Getty Vocabulary Program, we send greetings and are hopeful that you are well. Here in Los Angeles, we are beginning to come back to the Getty offices slowly, after many months working from home. After our work-from-home period, we happily find ourselves at a significant milestone: We have essentially cleared out hundreds of thousands of backlogged contributions to the Vocabularies! With consultants at Ontotext and our colleagues at Getty Digital for technical support, the Vocabulary Program editors focused on pre-processing data in Excel and in Open Refine (https://www.getty.edu/research/tools/vocabularies/obtain/openrefine.html). Details about new data loads to each Vocabulary appear below. While we have had a moratorium on new contributions while working on the backlog, we may now begin to accept proposals for new contributions. Learn about the Letter of Agreement, the scope of each Vocabulary, and procedures for proposing contributions here: https://www.getty.edu/research/tools/vocabularies/contribute.html A primary goal is to make the Getty Vocabularies ever more multicultural, multilingual, and inclusive. We have undertaken a study to identify content lacunae in the Vocabularies, which we will target according to our strategic plan in the coming months. Our user statistics have remained consistently high during this period, making the Getty Vocabularies (https://www.getty.edu/research/tools/vocabularies/index.html) the most used resources on the GRI site. Total searches in FY21, July 2020-June 2021: Q1:566,228, Q2:360,194; Q3 616,048; Q4:612,074 Use of the APIs, LOD, Relational Tables, and XML formats was also high during this period. -

Revista Economică 70:3 (2018)
Revista Economică 70:3 (2018) THE ECONOMIC, SOCIAL AND RELIGIOUS LIFE IN ANCIENT ROME AND DACIA Titus SUCIU1 Transilvania University, Brasov, Roumania Abstract The work is a study on Ancient Rome and Dacia covering three major aspects: economy, social life and religion. The economic aspect comprises the following: agriculture, crafts, and trade. The social life: family life and social structure. In the case of Rome, the study particularly underlined minting, whilst for the Dacians, the study described the most important citadels from Orăştie Mountains. An important part of paper is religios life, who is directly correlated with the social life, both for Ancient Rome and Dacia. Naturally, towards the end of the work presented Dacian romanisation and especially the contribution of Dacians and Romans to Romanian Christianity. On a practical level, the work tries to answer two essential questions: where do we come from and where do we head to? Keywords: economic, religious, Romanisation JEL classification: N3, N6, N9 1. Introduction In order to know better who we are, we should start from the sources, from the origins. And what can people in Europe learn about sources of Dacian and Roman origin? From the Dacians we took the survival spirit and the courage to fight against a more often adverse destiny and from the Romans - the tendency to build, to conquer and to possess knowledge. Roman military campaigns, methodically carried out over seven centuries, have turned a small city-state into the ruler of the largest empire. The first beginnings were in 650 BC, when Etruscans settled in the valley of Tiber. -
