As a group the aristocracy faced a set of circumstances unique to their class. These circumstances created the fear of another devastating war, loss of Empire, and the spread of Bolshevism. The conclusion was determined by researching numerous books and articles. When events required sacrifice to save king and country, the aristocracy forfeited privilege and wealth to save England. Journal of Social Issues, Vol. 54, No. 1, 1998,pp. 179-210 Science in the Service of the Far Right: Henry E. Garrett, the IAAEE, and the Liberty Lobby Andrew S. Winston* Universily of Guelph Henry E. Garrett (1894-1973) was the President of the American Psychological Association in 1946 and Chair of Psychology at Columbia Universityfrom 1941 to 1955. In the 1950s Garrett helped organize an international group of scholars dedi- cated to preventing race mixing, preserving segregation, and promoting the princi- ples of early 20th century eugenics and “race hygiene.” Garrett became a leader in the fight against integration and collaborated with those who sought to revitalize the ideology of National Socialism. I discuss the intertwined history the Interna- tional Association for the Advancement of Ethnology and Eugenics (IAAEE),the journal Mankind Quarterly, the neofascist Northern League, and the ultra-right- wing political group, the Liberty Lobby. The use of psychological research and expertise in the promotion of neofascism is examined. No more than Nature desires the mating of weaker with stronger individu- als, even less does she desire the blending of a higher with a lower race, since, if she did, her whole work of higher breeding, over perhaps hun- dreds of thousands of years, might be ruined with one blow. Historical ex- perience offers countless proofs of this. It shows with terrifying clarity that in every mingling ofAryan blood with that of lowerpeoples the result was the end of the culturedpeople. , , , The result of all racial crossing is there- fore in brief always thefollowing: Lowering of the level of the higher race; *Portions of this paper were presented at the annual meeting of CHEIRON, the International Soci- ety for the History of Behavioral and Social Sciences, at the University of Richmond in June 1997.

He is best known to the world as a brilliant scientist, but he has found time in the intervals of his work to pursue with ardour the task upon which every sensible member of the British and German races should be engaged-namely the establishment of good relations and a better understanding between these two great nations. Dr Laurie knows full well that this friendship is the keystone to peace in Europe-nay, in the whole world.

The Admiral who admired Hitler: Sir Barry Domvile, Nazism and early Historical Revisionism Steven Woodbridge (Published by BAHS, The British Association for Holocaust Studies, on 5th October, 2020) The Admiral who admired Hitler: Sir Barry Domvile, Nazism and early Historical Revisionism – The British Association for Holocaust Studies (wordpress.com) In 1947 an autobiography was published entitled From Admiral to Cabin Boy. It had been penned by a former British Navy Admiral, Sir Barry Domvile, shortly after he was released from internment in 1943. However, it was not a conventional set of memoirs. The author not only reflected on his career but also set out a type of political manifesto, which included a very conspiratorial view of history and the role of what he called ‘Judmas’. He explained: ‘Judmas is my copyright title for the Judaeo-Masonic combination, which has been the principal disturbing factor in world politics for many a long day’. He added: ‘It is a tragedy that the British people have been so ill-informed on this matter…’. Domvile claimed that he had once known nothing of ‘the Jewish question’ and the ‘hidden Power at work behind the Government’, but then his eyes had been opened to the ‘mystery’ a few years previously: ‘I suppose it was Hitler’s attack on Judmas that really started me thinking, and my personal experience with the ‘Link’ that made me realise the strength of the forces arrayed against my humble efforts’. The reference to the ‘Link’ was significant. The Link was a rather secretive and highly controversial pro-Nazi group operating in Britain during the late interwar period.

In England, however, the British fascists set about to save what they saw as a dying empire. In an effort to restore Britain’s greatness, British fascism held to fascist principles and doctrine to stem the flow of immigration, which fascists saw as darkening the pure British culture. While many of the British fascists strongly admired Nazi Germany‘s version of fascism, they were unique in that they forged their solutions from social ills that were distinctly British.

Brian Simpson Administrative / biographical history: The collection consists of documents and correspondence assembled by Professor A.W. Brian Simpson during the writing of his book In the Highest Degree Odious: Detention Without Trial in Wartime Britain (Clarendon Press, 1992). To quote from Professor Simpson’s preface to his work: ‘During the Second World War a very considerable number of people were detained by the British government without charge, or trial, or term set, on the broad ground that this was necessary for national security. Most were not British citizens, but technically enemy aliens – in fact most of these enemy aliens were refugees from Europe. A far smaller number of those detained were British citizens, and they were held under Regulation 18B [of September 1939, and more particularly the specially formulated section 18B (1A) introduced in November] of the Defence Regulations; it is with this regulation and those detained under it that this book is concerned’. The background to the implementation of the regulation was the threat of an imminent German invasion of Britain in May 1940 following the collapse of Allied forces in France. Under the legislation the Home Secretary of the day - initially Sir John Anderson, subsequently Herbert Morrison - was free to detain and imprison as he saw fit anyone against whom evidence of potential disloyalty, untested by legal process, was presented by the security services.
