What Who European Day of The MFL team organised a fantastic week of activities to celebrate the European Day of Languages Languages including form time quizzes, karaoke and films during lunch times and another year of very strong entries for the Great European Bake Off. Macmillan Coffee The Senior Leadership Team hosted their annual Macmillan Coffee Morning on 1 October with Morning homemade bakes and hot drinks for all staff. This year we raised a brilliant £265! Year 9 Road Safety Year 9 students had the opportunity to watch an informative performance about the importance of Road Safety during October. Sports Awards The PE Department organised another great evening of celebration and awards. This year we Evening were joined by guest speaker Leighanne Robe. Weatherhead After the resounding success of the Weatherhead Unplugged debut in 2017, Miss Donnelly Unplugged organised another outstanding evening of acoustic performances in the Theatre by various students that even topped the previous year! Pink Day HSC students along with the entire Sixth Form student body drove the fundraising efforts and activities for the annual Pink Day, supporting Breast Cancer charities. Year 12 and Year 13 went head to head in the competition for the pinkest common room, with solid efforts from both! Senior Awards Ex-student Sophie McKibbin returned to Weatherhead as a guest speaker for this year’s Senior Evening Awards Evening, delivering a very special and inspiration speech about her amazing and successful career since leaving Weatherhead. Year 7 Halloween Year 7 students had the opportunity to enjoy a Halloween themed disco on 29 October, Disco organised and led by Sixth Form students. The costumes were better than ever and lots of fun was had by everyone! Author Week LRC Manager Miss Granger managed to deliver another exceptional Author Week in November with 5 author visits to Weatherhead from Andy Seed, Bali Rai, Tom McLaughlin, Lauren James and Kim Curran. Students took part in numerous activities and were also able to meet the authors and get signed copies of their books! PTF Christmas Craft Mrs Moretta and the PTF committee organised a lovely Christmas Craft Fair to begin the festive Fair season, hosting local vendors and exhibitors selling a variety of bespoke and handmade items and gifts. Nikki O’Hara Dance Year 11 GCSE dance students participated in a workshop to enhance their performances for assessments A Level Drama A level Drama students performed to 150 students from New Brighton and Somerville Primary Performance schools Weatherheads Got Students from across the school showcased their musical talents and helped raise over £200 Talent for charity.

What Who LJMU student University students from LJMU came to chat to students from Y7-11 who are interested in advocate talk studying Law and Business in the future.
Ask Apprenticeships Students In Year 13 who are not applying for university were able to meet with staff from Ask Session Apprenticeships about alternative career opportunities.
Seussical the 3 sold out evenings in January saw audiences blown away by the whole school production of Musical Seussical the Musical, an extravaganza of colours, music and laughter, with profits from ticket sales and raffles going to The Book Bus.
Year 13 Finance Talk Students in Y13 were able to join a session about university finances and budgeting.
Weatherfriends Our friends from Victoria Park Care Home joined the HSC department and students once again for their termly catch up & cake. NCPCC Number Day The Maths department got students involved in Number Day with a teacher number hunt around the school at break and lunch time, along with cakes sales to raise money for NCPCC.
Harry Potter Book Another highly successful evening hosted by Miss Grainger, LRC Manager where students Night were able to dress up as their favourite Harry Potter characters and take part in a creepy-crawly experience, crafting and enjoyed lots of wizardly treats! Safer Internet Week As part of the Safer Internet campaign, all year groups were visited by Cyber Champions from Merseyside Police to chat about being safe and careful online.
DofE Awards Over 120 students received either their Bronze, Silver or Gold DofE Award at a very special ceremony in February following completion of their projects and challenging expeditions in the Summer Year 9 Well-being Year 9 students had a full day of focusing on their physical, mental and emotional wellbeing with Event sessions being held by Chartwells, My Esteem and a bespoke performance by The Open Door Theatre Company in the evening, where students were joined by parents/carers. International Weatherhead was joined by some inspirational and successful local women during the week Women’s Day and and they met and spoke with students from across the school about careers and opportunities. National Careers They included Natasha Jones, ex-student and Olympic Boxer and our very own Mrs Grimwood who, as well as being a fantastic Science teacher, also represented Wales in the Common Week Wealth Games for Badminton! World Book Day The English department got creative for another year to dress up as some of their favourite literary characters! Students were also able to get involved with lots of activities throughout the day including quizzes, games and of course, reading!

What Who Weatherfriends Year 12 HSC students hosted their termly event from residents of local care homes. The Shakespeare Company Year 9 students took part in workshops and viewed performances. G&T Art Event Weatherhead hosted artist Caroline Gregson and Year 5 students from local primary school for some fantastic workshops and activities. Public Speaking Competition Year 8 students delivered speeches to their year group on a meaningful topic they selected themselves. Year 7&8 Disco Leadership Event ran by 6th Form students. Summer Sizzler Showcase Annual showcase event involving Weatherhead students and those from a number of local primary schools. A fantastic production of dance, theatre and music. Year 11 and Year 13 Leaver’s Assemblies & Both year groups enjoyed their final assembly where staff said Celebrations goodbye and shared messages of good luck followed by a celebration lunch. Harry Potter Creative Literacy Event 43 Y5 students from Greenleas Primary School visited Weatherhead for a fun Harry Potter themed literacy afternoon. Sixth Form Prom Year 13 students celebrated together at their Prom which was hosted in The Chemistry Suite at Anfield Stadium. KS3 Awards Evening 125 students from Years 7,8 and 9 were awarded after being nominated by subject areas for their outstanding progress and effort. Brook Bitesize Event Brook visited Weatherhead to deliver workshops and session to Year 9 students. Author Visit Author Julie Lamin visited to work with Year 9 and 10 students.
World Class Symposium Dance students took part in Weatherhead’s first World Class Schools Symposium event at King Ecgbert School, Sheffield. Creative Showcase The Art department transformed the foyer once again with fantastic displays of students GCSE and A Level work from this year. Debate Club Workshops Year 10 students welcomed peers from South Wirral High School to take part in debate workshops and activities. Woodchurch Y10 Transition Day 53 Y10 students from Woodchurch High School had a Sixth Form taster day at Weatherhead on Tuesday 2 July – the students had a fantastic time! CSLA Festival Year 12 leaders lead a Festival for over 150 students from Bidston Avenue and New Brighton primary Schools. Paralympic Festival, Leasowe Recreation Centre 5 Year 12 students joined Miss Faulkner at Leasowe Recreation centre to support a Paralympics afternoon for local primary schools. Sports Day Weatherhead Summer Games 2019 was underway on 5 July with students from Years 7-10 competing in running, long jump, trampolining, high jump and much more. Moving into Sixth Form Y10 Weatherhead students experienced a day in the life of Sixth Form, on Thursday 11 July. They had taster sessions in KS5 subjects and had full use of Sixth Form facilities for the day! Year 10 & Year 12 Results Days Students received their end of year examination results in a replica format to GCSE and A Level results days, followed by a celebration afternoon. Staff Stars in their Eyes After the success of last year’s returning Staff Showcase, students had the chance to enjoy more entertaining performances from staff across the school.

International Day of Dance To celebrate International Day of Dance, the Dance department coordinated a free lunchtime neon disco open to all year groups. Dance ambassadors led the dancing and over two hundred students donned neon accessories, waved glow sticks and enjoyed the free disco.
Over 50 students from Years 7, 8 and 9 auditioned for the International Day of Dance competition with twelve acts going through to the final. The competition was tough with solos, duets and group dances of all genres including ballet, contemporary, gymnastics and body popping. Hundreds of students watched the final which took the format of Strictly Come dancing with Dance staff as judges.
Community Events Weatherhead hosted two Film Projects with Park Primary and Somerville Primary Disney at the Oscars event organised by Year 13 Music BTEC student Signing workshops at Egremont Primary organised by Year 13 Music BTEC student
The Great Get Together In June staff and students were given the opportunity to participate in now annual Weatherhead Great Get Together. The Astro turf hosted a lunchtime event, where the whole school was encouraged to bring their lunch and blankets and come together and enjoy celebrating our diverse community. As part of the celebration, music was provided by Mr Games, a mini obstacle course was overseen by the Year 12 Sports Leaders.
Weatherhead also hosted a Great Get Together with members of the wider community. Weathertots parents/carers and children joined with residents from Victoria Care Home to enjoy a traditional Afternoon Tea. Entertainment was provided by Chamber Choir and Year 12 Level 2 Childcare and level 3 HSC students looked after the young children. SSLT and the School Council joined our guests for lunch and initiated conversations to bring everyone together.

Key Dates: Wednesday 27th February 2019 – ‘Be the U in Yourself’, Year 9 Wellbeing Event Year 9 Students were taken off timetable for half the day each to focus on Healthy Relationships, Body Image, Well Being & Building Resilience. The day was supported by Happy Times (Mindfulness), My Esteem (Self-esteem and Positive Body Image), Chartwells (Healthy Eating), Mrs Jones (Well-Being Co-ordinator) and the year12 Mental Health First Aider (Mental health and Well-being) The day was complimented with an evening event (6-8pm) for parents/carers and students and gave a taste of the day’s activities. The evening began with a bespoke play performed by the Open the Door Theatre Company which addressed the many issues faced by teenagers in today’s society. Wednesday 3rd July 2019 - Year 9 Bitesize As part of the PR curriculum and to support student well-being, Year 9 were taken off timetable for half of the day to participate in the Brook Bitesize event. Students visit 8 stations and spend time with an external agency discussing a range of topics including: alcohol misuse, homelessness, sexuality, sexual health and contraception.

Enrichment Activities
Year 8 As part as the Drugs Education Programme, all year 8 students will participate in a visit to The Liverpool Maritime Museum for the Rush Drugs Awareness Programme and Seized Exhibition This programme for secondary schools provides a unique opportunity for students to explore the issues associated with drug misuse within a neutral, safe environment. Students watch a specially written drama and then explore the issues raised through theatre workshops and object handling. Students develop their knowledge of Drugs and the impact on their local community via a professional theatre piece, workshops and access to the handling collection and Gallery exhibits.
A number of year 8 students specifically selected by the Year Leader and Pastoral Support Worker will participate in a one day course called ‘Great Expectations’ presented by the Outreach Team from Brook. The course focuses on personal development and life skills activities and is designed to foster such skills as confidence building, coping strategies and problem solving as well as raising aspirations.
Year 9 All students have the opportunity to participate in the BiteSize Brook event. The event is led by staff from both Brook and Response HIVE and The Youth Offending Team and features information regarding substance misuse, contraception, homelessness, sexuality and STI’s. The event takes place over a full day with sessions split across 3 periods per half year group.
Cherished Students specifically selected by the Year Leader and Learning Mentor will participate in a course called ‘Cherished’ presented by DARA (Drugs, Alcohol and Relationships Advice). The course is based on creative mentoring of students using scrapbooking. The course addresses relevant topics that when talked and thought through, seeks to support, encourage and enable students to maximise their potential, develop their skills and make positive and healthy lifestyle choices which will improve their overall self- worth.
Year 10 A selection of students identified by the Year Leader and Pastoral Support Worker have the opportunity to participate in the ‘All Different, All Beautiful’ course. The course consists of workshops presented by the Outreach Team from Brook. The workshops consist of personal development and life skills activities and is designed to foster such skills as confidence building, coping strategies and problem solving as well as raising aspirations. Participation in the workshops can be used towards gaining a National Diploma in ‘Developing Personal Confidence and Self Awareness’.
Year 11 Students will again have the opportunity to participate in the Bitesize Brook event. This takes the same format as Year 9 however the students’ increasing levels of maturity and experience allows for more in-depth discussions to take place and questions to be asked. A selection of students identified by the Year Leader and Pastoral Support Worker have the opportunity to participate in the ‘My Life’ course. The course consists of workshops presented by the Outreach Team from Brook. CEIAG at Weatherhead incorporates Work Related Learning and Enterprise activities, and aims to encourage students to make the most of the opportunities available and steer students towards making informed choices about their future.
In line with the government’s statutory Career Strategy (October 2018), Weatherhead High School has adopted The Gatsby Benchmarks for Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance to provide a world class careers programme that will help our young people choose the career that is right for them. Liverpool City Region Careers Hub In September 2019 the government implemented a new careers strategy through the Careers and Enterprise Company to ensure that all young people receive outstanding Careers Information Advice and Guidance. A central part of the Government’s Careers strategy has been the introduction of 20 ‘Careers Hubs’ around England. The Liverpool City Region (LCR) Careers Hub is made up of 34 local schools and colleges working together with universities, training providers, employers and career professionals to improve careers education. Over the past year Weatherhead has worked closely with colleagues from the LCR hub and seen the provision of CEIAG go from strength to strength. In April Weatherhead was selected to represent the 34 schools in the LCR Hub and host a visit from Claudia Harris – (CEO Careers and Enterprise Company) and John Yarham, (Deputy CEO Careers and Enterprise Company) to show case the Careers provision in place and demonstrate the progress made towards achieving the 8 Gatsby Benchmarks careers standards as required by September 2020. Our visitors were given the opportunity to speak with our Student Careers Ambassadors from years 7-9 regarding their experience of careers, given an overview of the provision in place and sample case studies of student experiences from year 7-13.

Year 7 Introduction to the World Of work In November, year 7 students were off timetable for half a day fully working with colleagues from Wirral Young Chamber, Liverpool John Moores University, The University of Liverpool, The Department for Work and Pensions and Weatherhead staff. Students were introduced to the skills required to be successful in work and given an opportunity to consider their own future aspirations. Colleagues were incredibly impressed with year 7 stating they were the best year group they have worked with especially those students who knew what they would like to do in the future. Already we have budding doctors, nurses and engineers in abundance.
Year 10 Understanding the World of Work Event Prior to work experience in June, Year 10 students participated in the Understanding the World of Work event. Students had the opportunity to meet with over 22 employers who shared with them details about access routes in to the various sectors represented and progression routes through each company. Students were also able to get first hand expert advice on what employers are looking for from students during their work experience week.
Vocational Curriculum Weatherhead works closely with students and their families to ensure the best course is selected for the individual to ensure that they are able to achieve a positive destination after life at Weatherhead. A small number of Key Stage 4 students spend a number of days per week at a local provider following a vocational qualification. We work closely with the students and their families to ensure that the curriculum is best suited to the needs of each student. Weatherhead works with key training providers who offer high quality facilities and training to our students. Currently the providers used are: • Everton Free School - Sport • The Utopia project – Child care, Sport and Media • WRAP – Wirral Respite Alternative Provision for students in years 9 – 11 • Harmonize Academy
We work closely with the external providers and teachers to ensure that the students are settled and organised with their studies in and out of school. Parents and Carers have the opportunity to discuss the course and needs of their children with school, who liaises with the training providers to ensure all needs are met.

At the start of the academic year, aach year group selected a charity to support. Each year group then participated in charity fundraising events to support those in the local and wider community. A full range of fundraising events supported by the 6th Form Organising Committee take place throughout the year from events organised by form groups to whole school events and participation in national events. The Duke of Edinburgh Award
The Duke of Edinburgh Award September 2018 saw the appointment of Miss Faulker as the new DofE manager, set to take the programme from strength to strength. The summer of 2019 was the end of the third full year of Weatherhead High School running its own Duke Of Edinburgh Direct Licence programme, with rapidly increasing participation numbers. The team led by Dr J Temple took 85 Bronze Participants over four weekends on their practice and assessment expeditions to North Wales. Over the two May bank Holidays Mrs C Grimwood and her team took 54 Silver Participants on their Practice and Assessment expeditions to the Yorkshire Dales and we also had 16 Gold participants completing their practice expedition with Miss N Basford and team in the Yorkshire Dales in May and their Assessment expedition in Snowdonia in July.

National Citizen Service
National Citizen Service Award On Thursday 7th February 2019, Mrs Moretta had the pleasure of attending the NCS (National Citizen Award Service) at the Marriott Hotel Liverpool. The award recognises schools for the student participation in the programme - Bronze Award for 40-49 students participating, Silver for 50-59 and Gold for 60+ students taking part. On behalf of Weatherhead students Mrs Moretta was pleased to accept the Gold Award and Champion school status for 2017-2018 for the fourth year running. 61 students from Weatherhead registered with The National Citizen Service (NCS) to participate in 4 week voluntary personal and social development programme for 15–17year olds, which took place outside of term time during the summer holidays. There are 4 phases to the programme: Phase 1 - outward bounds residential Phase 2 - Employability and life skills residential Phase 3 - social action project - working as a team to raise funds for a local charity Phase 4 - celebration of success
During the programme students took part in a number of community projects raising money for local community projects.

Sports Leadership
Level One Sports Leadership (LSA1) and Community Sports Leadership (CSLA 2). 212 Year 11 and 32 Year 12 students completed their Level One and Level Two Sports Leadership qualifications throughout the year. The year 11 and 12 students deliver fun lessons to different Key Stage 3 classes and local primary schools. Our students demonstrate high levels of leadership and subject knowledge, as they complete a range of tasks in their booklets. This qualification creates a good foundation for those students leading in employment or further education.
The Sports Council Each year there is a restructuring and development of a Sports Leadership Team. The leadership team is collated with an interview process for Sports Captain and Sports Council. The pupils involved with The Sports Council are role models to the department and assist in the promotion of sport to the whole school. The Sports Council filter their promotion and organisation to Sports Ambassadors and Active Play wardens.
PE leads the way for Sports Ambassadors The new Sports Ambassadors scheme is successful with the Physical Education department, high number of pupils have become Sports Ambassadors. The Sports Ambassadors are tutored by members of the Physical Education Department.
Sports Council mentor Applied Sport and A Level Students Sports Council members work hard with Sixth Form students to assist with their revision and subject knowledge. They take on the role of delivering to specific groups and assisting with their confidence, knowledge and organisation. This mentoring scheme is an excellent learning aid for upcoming students who need further support within their subject area.

Sports Council Experience Teaching The Sports Council do work experience in the department. They voluntarily attend lessons throughout the curriculum. They support lessons to gain experience in the world of PE teaching and enhancing their knowledge in the delivery, structure and management of sporting activities.
Links with the Community CSLA leaders work extremely hard developing their leadership skills and attributes. They go out into the community and deliver lessons, developing motor skills, tournaments and organising leadership afternoon events. The ear 12 students led sessions at Leasowe Recreation to students with additional needs. The students also went to the HIVE to attend a Leadership Workshop.

School Games Status Weatherhead's commitment to and development of competition, school sport and Physical Education has been recognised with the awarding of the Bronze School Games Award, a Government led awards scheme.
Active play The Active Play leaders organise the hut and complete extensive inventories of all the equipment. This vast amount of equipment and new basketball and table tennis tables on offer produces high levels of engagement and fun at lunch times.
