  • February 26, 2021 Amazon Warehouse Workers In
February 26, 2021 Amazon warehouse workers in Bessemer, Alabama are voting to form a union with the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU). We are the writers of feature films and television series. All of our work is done under union contracts whether it appears on Amazon Prime, a different streaming service, or a television network. Unions protect workers with essential rights and benefits. Most importantly, a union gives employees a seat at the table to negotiate fair pay, scheduling and more workplace policies. Deadline Amazon accepts unions for entertainment workers, and we believe warehouse workers deserve the same respect in the workplace. We strongly urge all Amazon warehouse workers in Bessemer to VOTE UNION YES. Annual Report 2018–19 3 Introduction 5 Metropolitan Opera Board of Directors 6 Season Repertory and Events 14 Artist Roster 16 The Financial Results 20 Our Patrons On the cover: Yannick Nézet-Séguin takes a bow after his first official performance as Jeanette Lerman-Neubauer Music Director PHOTO: JONATHAN TICHLER / MET OPERA 2 Introduction The 2018–19 season was a historic one for the Metropolitan Opera. Not only did the company present more than 200 exiting performances, but we also welcomed Yannick Nézet-Séguin as the Met’s new Jeanette Lerman- Neubauer Music Director. Maestro Nézet-Séguin is only the third conductor to hold the title of Music Director since the company’s founding in 1883. I am also happy to report that the 2018–19 season marked the fifth year running in which the company’s finances were balanced or very nearly so, as we recorded a very small deficit of less than 1% of expenses. The season opened with the premiere of a new staging of Saint-Saëns’s epic Samson et Dalila and also included three other new productions, as well as three exhilarating full cycles of Wagner’s Ring and a full slate of 18 revivals. The Live in HD series of cinema transmissions brought opera to audiences around the world for the 13th season, with ten broadcasts reaching more than two million people. Combined earned revenue for the Met (box office, media, and presentations) totaled $121 million. As in past seasons, total paid attendance for the season in the opera house was 75%. The new productions in the 2018–19 season were the work of three distinguished directors, two having had previous successes at the Met and one making his company debut.

FACTFILE: GCSE DRAMA Components 1 & 2 Lighting for the Devised Performance Lighting for the Devised Performance: Component 1 During the process of creating, developing and realising your lighting design for the devised performance you should compile a file of evidence which can be used in your presentation to accompany the final lighting design. This document indicates the type of evidence which you should include and supporting appendix to use. Learning Outcomes Design students should be able to create ideas by researching the following: (1) the pre-release material; (2) the professional practice of lighting design; (3) the materials and resources used in development of their lighting design; (4) a range of genres, design styles and practitioners. (1) The Pre-Release Material As a lighting design student, you will work with a group of between 2 and 6 to choose one stimulus from a choice of 3 for the development of your devised performance. After research of the stimulus you will begin to work on the development of lighting ideas for the devised performance. It may take a few weeks for your group to come up with their performance ideas so you must be patient with them. You will be able to contribute to this discussion from your own research to ensure that the devised piece will give you enough scope for the creation of your lighting plot. Familiarise yourself with the lighting equipment, resources and technology within your schools Drama Department. During the preliminary devising period, you should research the professional practice of lighting design. (2) Professional Practice of Lighting Design Lighting is a vital part of any theatrical production and it is sometimes overlooked by students both when they visit the theatre and when they are preparing their own work.

U"U,l MESSAGE FROM LEBO M In November of 1997, I was on stage as a cast member, choral and vocal arranger, co-composer and portner to Mark Mancina for the music of the Broadway show of The Lion King. Little did I know that 10 years later, The Lion King would have a prestigious globol platform and position, as one of the world's most successful and inspiring Broadway productions to date. However, what I knew and what I started dreaming of was that one day we would open this show for the deserving audiences of South Africa. Approximately seven years ago, I started annoying Thomas Schumacher of Disney Theatrical and director Julie Taymor and anyone who had enough energy to listen to my dream and vision. Little did I know that it was just as real to Tom and Julie and everyone at Disney as much as it was to me. I then decided to shut my life down and focus on bringing the show here, unedited and presented exactly the way I lived it in New York and the world over.
