Dr. Michelle Mohabeer is a based award winning film/video artist, lecturer at -Scarborough, writer and curator. BLU IN YOU, (2008), her experimental essayist documentary has screened at the 24th Turino International LGBT , Society for Cinema and Media Studies conference (USA), Film Studies Association of Canada conference (Vancouver), Crossroad Cultural Studies conference (University of West Indies, Jamaica) and Reel Sisters Diaspora Film Festival/Conference (New York). Prior films include: EXPOSURE (Five Feminist minutes omnibus collection from NFB), Coconut/Cane & Cutlass, Child- Play, Two/Doh, Tracing Soul and Echoes. Michelle Mohabeer and her films have been featured in the books: Femme Fatales: Independent Women Directors, The Romance of Transgression in Canada, North of Everything, and The Bent Lens, (amoung others). Mohabeer’s films have garnered numerous awards, mini- retrospectives and exhibitions in over 130 festivals, conferences and galleries worldwide and collected by over 60 universities, libraries, and galleries in the US, Canada and the .

Dr. Mohabeer earned her PhD in the Culture, Communication and Critical Education stream from (University of Toronto/OISE). She currently teaches Cinema and Media Studies courses in the English and Women’s Studies Department at University of Toronto- Scarborough. She has taught Film Studies at the University of Western Ontario, University of Toronto, , , and film production at . She has participated in conferences as a presenter/ moderator and filmmaker in Canada, the US and the Caribbean. Currently, she is editing a critical film anthology In Between Spaces: Independent film and video by Indigenous and diasporic women media artists in Canada.
