PNW Sample Mushroom List with Current Names Compiled by Dr. Skye Weintraub, ND - updated September 2020 This is a sample list. Note: Some of the entries in this list might appear hard to read due to a small sized font. You can use the Zoom control in your web browser to make them easier to read. This document is a compendium of Pacific Northwest and Northern California mushrooms arranged alphabetically by scientific genus/species names. Each entry also includes the family name, group name, and if available, the common name(s) and other name(s) or synonyms. Where there have been recent name changes, (in some cases only the genus or species part of the name has changed, and sometimes both the genus and species names have changed) the new name is listed in red next to their previous genus/species name. Go to the new name in the list to find a complete entry under that new name. To determine the status of the mushroom name shown, refer to the Genus/species Name Color Key below. The current name appears in Black. A previous name is in Gray. A new genus name is in Red with the first letter capitalized. A new species name is in red and all lowercase. Sometimes a mushroom cannot be absolutely identified and the abbreviation for that is “cf” and appears in the part of the name that is in doubt.
