This past season was a great year. We played in four tournaments and had good success in each tourna- ment we entered. The trip to Monc- ton was truly a memorable experi- ence that had many great moments. The team did a great job reaching third place in the regular season and then going on to play for the league championship in the final series eventually losing to a strong Elgin team. As happens year after year it was great to watch the boys play together as a team and to watch them go from 16 year boys at the beginning of the season to become the young men that they finished up. This is truly a privilege for the staff and committee members. Sponsors: your amazing support over the season has allowed this team to focus their talents to achieve all that is listed above. The team has excelled and grown, both as hockey players and even more importantly, as outstanding young men. This is a direct result of your sponsorship allowing the Midget Operating Committee to run the Wolves program. I wish to again thank you, our sponsors, for your generous support. Parents: thank you for allowing us to have the opportunity to work with your boys. What a wonderful group of respectful, thoughtful and talented young men. And thank you also for your support with our fundraiser at St Louis Bar & Grill, as well as volunteering to assist with pregame preparations all season long. Coaches: to our bench staff, your many hours of work and commitment to the team were fantastic. This jour- ney started later than expected but with careful planning and hard work, you met any and all expectations. A special thanks to Kim Rennie for working away behind the scenes taking care of the team. Midget Operating Committee: kudos for a job well done, this season will go down in the memory books! “Music Man”: thank you Jesse Hutchinson for providing the best music for all of our home games Players: gentlemen you had an amazing year. Your personal development, support, respect and thoughtful- ness was first class. Friendships were made this year that will never be broken. Enjoy your future careers both in hockey and in life. There is no doubt in my mind that you all will excel as you continue in pursuit of your dreams. Thanks again to all involved for a wonderful season and remember, “Once a Wolf Always a Wolf “! Gary Spark, Chairman, Midget Operating Committee Page 4 Prang Announced as Head Coach for 2019-2020 Corey Prang has been announced by the Waterloo Minor Hockey Association as the Head Coach for the Major Midget AAAs in 2019-2020. In 2018-19, Corey was an Assistant Coach alongside Tom Nickolau (Head Coach) and Rod Archer. Corey has been a minor and junior hockey coach for 10 years. A former player with the Elmira Sugar Kings from 1995- 98, Corey was a scoring leader and 2-time Cherrey Cup and Sutherland Cup winner. Corey was drafted by the Sarnia Sting in 1994. Congratulations, Corey, we’re looking forward to a great season with you! And the Award Goes to... The Alpha Wolf Award is presented annually to the per- son(s) who makes the greatest contribution to the Wa- terloo Wolves Major Midget Hockey Program. We would like to congratulate Deb Purcell, this year’s recipient of the Alpha Wolf Award. Deb (and husband Blaise) first became involved with the Major Midget program when their son, Ryan, played in goal for the Wolves. When Ryan graduated from the pro- gram, Deb stayed on, joining the Midget Operating Committee. Each season Debbie works tirelessly on the team’s travel plans and logistics as well as the players’ guide...and always with a smile. Thank you for all you do for the Wolves’, Debbie. We’re proud and lucky to have you as part of the Wolves’ organization. Operational and Policy Governance are clearly understood. The Board of Directors and Members have adapted well. Again, I stress how pleased I am to work with a team striving to improve our organization and game. The Board recognizes that hockey is a passion with high expectations from our country. The mandatory Initiation Program is experiencing some concern in a few areas; however, I have been impressed with the progress and attitude of the Members actively involved in promoting the value of this program. It is pleasant to receive compliments supporting the Board for this initiative. It is difficult to be critical of a program that works on improvement and develops skills as well as incorporating fun in the game.

ABOUT THE NATIONALS HISTORY The London Nationals are a Junior B hockey team playing within the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL) a 27 team league spanning from Windsor to Niagara Falls. The team’s life began in 1950 as the Lou Ball Juniors after Lou Ball’s clothing store, playing in the Big “10” Western Division out of the Ontario Arena at the Western Fair grounds. They won the Western Division title in 1952. In 1956, the “Big 10” was divided and London became a member of the Western Ontario Junior B Hockey League. In 1963 the Toronto Maple Leafs began sponsoring the Nationals. The Maple Leafs traditionally had aliations with the Toronto Marlboros and St. Michael's Majors. They decided to sponsor the junior team in London, which they wanted to play at the new London Gardens and be promoted to the Ontario Hockey Association. For the 1965–66 season, the team was finally admitted to major junior hockey, and London's Junior B franchise moved to Ingersoll to make room for the Junior A Nationals. The Junior A team was renamed as London Knights in 1968. The Junior B team returned to London under the name Bees for the 1966–1967 season, but then fell dormant for two seasons. The team was revived in 1969 as the Squires, and played under that name until 1976. The team was then known as the Diamonds from 1976–1991, before the Nationals name was revived after a long-lasting sponsorship with a diamond jeweler dissolved. The team's time under the Diamonds name was successful, as they claimed the Southwestern Junior B Hockey League title in 1977, and the Western Ontario Hockey League title in 1981, 1983, and 1984.
