There were no general membership meetings in 2016. The Historical Society of the Somerset Hills (THSSH) is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. Executive Summary The primary objective of The Historical Society of the Somerset Hills (THSSH) in 2016 was to create cultural opportunities and enrichment for the local community by providing programs and initiatives that inform, educate and foster interest in local history. Community Outreach: • Charter Day – Bernards Township THSSH had a table along Finley Avenue where Trustees handed out information, displayed small local artifacts, and provided information regarding the history of Charter Day. The Brick Academy, headquarters of THSSH, was open all day to showcase the history of our Somerset Hills area. • Basking Ridge Historic Oak Go Fund Me Project – Somerset Hills In partnership with the Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church, THSSH developed an online GoFundMe campaign with the hopes the community will donate generously to help offset the expense the church will endure to dismantle, preserve, and honor the legacy of this historic community treasure. To date the Basking Ridge Historic Oak Go Fund Me Project has raised over $2,500. -

The responses came from a variety of public and private nonprofits in widespread parts of the state. Resources included farms, museums, libraries, municipal halls, railroad stations, residences, churches, mills, and more that represent three centuries of building and innovation in New Jersey. That dollar amount does not include an additional documented $142 million necessary for site improvements and visitor amenities that will make more of the historic resources available for local residents and out-of-state visitors to enjoy on a regular basis. Heritage tourism, which brings $2.8 billion of income into the state, is an under-tapped resource for economic activity. -

` FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NJT-17-051 July 5, 2017 Contact: Press Office 973-491-7078 NJ TRANSIT SUMMER SERVICE CHANGES FOR AMTRAK REPAIRS TAKE EFFECT MONDAY Customers Urged to Review Their Options NEWARK, NJ — NJ TRANSIT is reminding customers that the summer rail service changes due to Amtrak track work at Penn Station New York (PSNY) will go into effect on Monday, July 10th. This includes the diversion of all M&E Midtown Direct trains scheduled to arrive in PSNY after 7 a.m. to Hoboken Terminal, where alternate bus, ferry and PATH service is available. Additional busing will be in place at key locations. “This has been an all-hands-on-deck effort to communicate with our customers,” said NJ TRANSIT Executive Director Steve Santoro. “If you haven’t done so already, I strongly urge all customers to utilize the next few days to familiarize yourself with all of your travel options. “This will not be a normal commute for any of us including our customers, so we ask that you; stay connected to social media and our web page for the latest information; stay ahead by building in extra time for your commute; and stay cool and try not to lose patience. On Monday, our customer service ambassadors will be out in force, so if you have questions or need directions, just look for them in their bright yellow vests,” Santoro said. For the past several weeks, NJ TRANSIT has been preparing its customers for these upcoming service changes. The inventory includes 1,634 sites and 200 historic districts. For the purposes of this inventory, heritage tourism attractions were defined as historically significant places in New Jersey that either currently offer (or potentially could offer) a meaningful visitor experience to help visitors better understand New Jersey’s history. A primary goal of this inventory process was to capture current information about New Jersey’s heritage tourism attractions to understand the extent to which sites are (or are not) ready for visitors.
