  • In the Time It Has Taken James Halliday to Compile His 26 Australian Wine
In the time it has taken James Halliday to compile his 26 Australian Wine Companions, the Chardonnay grape has emigrated to almost every hill and vale across our viticultural landscape. No other variety has adapted more successfully, from single barrel selections to vast commercial blends. No other inspires such singular focus in our winemakers to sharpen their craft. No other sends vignerons searching, with gold fever, for that next hill, or clone, or aspect. Chardonnay alone explores the breadth and personality of all Australian wine regions. In our tribute to James Halliday, the true patron of fine Australian wine, no other variety would do for this national wine competition. Organised by Wine Yarra Valley, the objective of the James Halliday Chardonnay Challenge is to affirm the quality of Australian Chardonnay and provide a catalyst for people to take a fresh look at this much-loved wine by providing an appropriate platform for the national search to recognize Australia’s finest chardonnay. A Welcome from the Committee Australian chardonnay has never been better. It is a great news story and one about which we should all be proud and excited. The level of support for the inaugural James Halliday Chardonnay Challenge has been overwhelming and we thank all of the exhibitors for getting behind it so enthusiastically. We thank James for his guidance and support in the design and execution of the competition and agreeing to be our patron. We were very lucky to be able to secure one of the most dynamic and talented groups of judges in Australia, literally from coast-to-coast, and thank them for volunteering their time, expertise and camaraderie.

  • Stella Bella, Cabernet Merlot, Margaret River
Home / Our producers / Stella Bella Wines / Cabernet, Merlot ENQUIRE ABOUT THIS WINE Product code: 2433 STELLA BELLA, CABERNET MERLOT, MARGARET RIVER, Download data sheet Print data sheet Download Bottle shot AUSTRALIA, 2018 Related Wines > Stella Bella, Cabernet Sauvignon, Margaret River, Australia Product code: 8354 2017 Margaret River, Australia Producer Profile This boutique winery in the heart of Margaret River creates idiosyncratic named ranges like Suckfizzle and Skuttlebutt in a low interventionist and organic way keeping their approach as simple as possible to allow their cherished vineyards to show their quality. It is not merely in the names where these wines are memorable, as once you have tasted them you will see why Luke Jolliffe, the winemaker, continues to receive recognition and awards from around the world for wines that have that wonderful Margaret River restraint and elegance, but are bound together with a fruit purity that makes them delectable. Viticulture Their philosophy regarding viticulture is simple, and that is to operate in a manner that consciously respects the vineyards that they tend as well as the local environment. Minimal chemical inputs and fertilisers are used along with minimal intervention as - aiming for vine balance. Stella Bella are acutely aware of the environmentally pristine nature of this part of the world and manage their vineyards accordingly. An example of this is their recent introduction of Cryptolaemus montrouzieri (the Australian Native Ladybird) to predate on mealy Stella Bella, bugs. This has been a very successful natural control measure. Unlike almost all Chardonnay, other wine producing regions, because Western Australia is free from Phylloxera, Margaret River, Stella Bella wines are all on their own roots, and not on rootstock, which arguably Australia gives them a purer expression of the various cultivars grown and the respective Product code: 8344 sites they are planted in.

  • Quarterly Report –
Wine List 2015/2016 “Red wine with red meat, white wine with fish” or “drink whatever wine you like with whatever you want to eat, there are no wrong combinations”...which one is the right guide? Rules provide guidelines to steer us towards more successful combinations and spontaneity allows us to test them, maybe break them or find new ones that work. Food and wine matches are all about finding a balance. At Heritage Portfolio, we are as passionate about wine as we are about food. We put all our passion and knowledge into providing you with the best possible experience of both. We work closely with selected producers and have painstakingly handpicked them based on their lovely products. Familia Zuccardi, Argentina Alberto Zuccardi founded the winery in 1963, challenging the tradition. He sought to introduce Argentinian wine to the world stage, and it is this spirit that still drives the family. Today, a combination of three generations works together, to create their unique wines. Iona Wines, South Africa Iona’s vineyards are located in the Highlands, a unique sub-region of Elgin. How appropriate for Scotland! The climate and soil provide an utterly stunning Sauvignon Blanc. Andrew Gunn began his wine life in early 1997 and has enjoyed one success after another. Nyetimber Estate, England With the same chalk soil as the northern French region and a similar climate, the classic Champagne varieties thrived in their West Sussex vineyard sites. This is the only producer to make superb quality sparkling wine from estate grown fruit. For them it is all about quality, quality and then again quality.
