Darryl received the award for risking his own life to save a young boy who was in difficulty in the water of Southwest Pond at the Newfoundland Adventist camp- ground. The incident took place during the summer of 1985. Darryl and his parents were guests of the Governor General at dinner and were given a guided tour of Ottawa. Darryl is the son of Frank and Phyllis Pearcey of Mount Pearl.
