ALI MCGREGOR BIOGRAPHY 2012 Ali McGregor completed a bachelor of music and post-graduate studies at the Royal Northern College of Music in the UK. As a principal soprano for Opera Australia from 2001 she performed such roles as her Green Room award winning Clorinda (La Cenerentola), Phyllis (Iolanthe), Zerlina, Marzellina (Fidelio), Yum-Yum (The Mikado), Plaintiff (Trial By Jury), Pousette (Manon), Adele (Die Fledermaus), Ninetta (Love of Three Oranges) and Papagena (The Magic Flute). Her international roles include Venus in Cesti’s Il Pomo d’Oro for the Batignano Opera Festival, Italy; Zerlina (Don Giovanni) for NZ Opera; Fennimore (Kurt Weill’s The Silverlake) and Polly Peachum in Jonothan Miller’s production of The Beggar’s Opera for Broomhill Opera at Wilton Music Hall, London. Her Cabaret work includes the worldwide hit show ‘La Clique, A Sideshow Burlesque’ at the Famous Spiegeltent in Edinburgh, Melbourne and Adelaide Festivals and as the creator of the sell-out festival show ‘The Opera Burlesque’. ‘Midnight Lullabies’ was performed at The Famous Spiegeltent, ‘The Butterfly Club’ and the 2007 cabaret season at The Malthouse Theatre, Melbourne. ‘Jazz Cigarette’, her latest solo show has played to packed houses in the Spiegeltent in Melbourne, Adelaide Cabaret festival, Adelaide Fringe Festival, Perth Fringe festival and Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Her new show ‘Alchemy’ is booked throughout 2012/13 both nationally and internationally. Comedy - “Ali McGregor’s Late-Nite Variety-Nite Night” at Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Melbourne International Comedy Festival has become a hotbed of alternative comedy and twisted cabaret over the past 5 years. Ali has now become somewhat of a go-to songstress appearing in Upfront, The Great Debate, Mark Watson’s 24-hour, her own show on BBC Radio 4 UK and Frank Skinner’s Credit Crunch Cabaret in London’s West End, and she regularly sings alongside the likes of Eddie Perfect, Tripod, Tim Minchin, Casey Bennetto and Sammy J. Recordings include the soundtrack to the Australian feature film One Perfect Day, Love of Three Oranges on Chandos Recordings and Trial by Jury on ABC DVD. Her debut solo CD ‘Jazz Cigarette’ with a trio led by Ben Winkelman and featuring James Morrison on trumpet, was released in May 2011. Television work includes presenting 'La Traviata - Live in Paris' alongside Howard Goodall for Channel 4 UK in 2000. For the ABC she has appeared on ‘My Favourite Album’ and was a regular panel member of Spicks and Specks.
