She also promotes their educational programs HILL-STEAD MUSEUM 35 Mountain Rd., Farmington, CT 06032 www.hillstead.org ; Phone 860-677-4787 COLONIAL DAMES TRUSTEE FOR HILL-STEAD MUSEUM Mrs. Joseph Hayes, Farmington The Colonial Dame Trustee of the Hill-Stead Museum is one of four trustees designated by Theodate Pope Riddle's will, the other three being a representative of her law firm, her banker and a museum administrator. The Dames’ trustee is a member of the Executive Committee as well as the Hill-Stead Museum Board of Directors. 4 THE NATIONAL SOCIETY OF THE COLONIAL DAMES OF AMERICA IN THE STATE OF CONNECTICUT The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America in the State of Connecticut was founded in 1893 for the purpose of increasing public knowledge and understanding of the Colonial heritage in the United States of America, and inspiring pride in its traditions. The Connecticut Society acquired the Joseph Webb House in 1919, the Stevens House in 1957 and the Deane House in 1959. Both the Webb and Deane houses are National Historic Landmarks, and the Stevens house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Webb Deane Stevens Museum has been accredited by the American Association of Museums since 1974.
