A., CCC-SLP, earned her Master of Arts Degree in Speech Language Pathology at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. She has worked as a speech-language pathologist in a wide variety of clinical settings, including intensive and acute care, rehabilitation, extended care hospitals, private practice, and home health care. Introduction The Workbook of Activities for Language and Cognition 6 (WALC 6) was developed to provide a comprehensive series of tasks and functional carryover activities allowing for integration of language and cognitive skills for neurologically-impaired adolescents and adults with diverse levels of functioning. The activities in the following sections can be adapted for clients with a variety of functioning skill levels. • Temporal Orientation Clients with neurological impairments often exhibit difficulty planning their days, understanding how long it takes to do something, using a calendar, and planning a schedule. The tasks in this section focus on recognizing, understanding, and using time concepts for everyday activities. • Spatial Orientation Clients with damage to the non-dominant hemisphere can demonstrate decreased ability to localize objects in space and show diminished capacity to determine spatial orientation. This section includes tasks structured to target spatial awareness and visual awareness. These tasks can also be used to integrate memory, problem solving, verbal naming, and following written and oral directions. • Nonverbal Communication The tasks in this section focus on developing strategies to facilitate nonverbal expressive communication for those clients who have lost the ability to produce speech or verbalize in a meaningful and effective manner. Specific gesture and pantomime exercises are included as well as activities for functional carryover and expansion of these skills. • Oral Motor This section is designed for those clients who demonstrate dysarthria (a weakness or incoordination of the speech muscles) or verbal apraxia (an impairment in the sequencing of speech sounds).     Baby Lock Sewing Accessories Hemmer Foot (ESG-HF) Instructions This foot is designed to curl under a 3mm double hem while stitching with either a straight stitch or a decorative Parisian hemstitch. Works best on lightweight fabrics. 4. Position the fabric (reverse side facing up) under the presser This presser foot can be used on a sewing machine with a foot. Lower the needle 3 mm from the edges of the fabric, zigzag stitch width up to 7 mm. lower the presser foot, then sew 2 or 3 stitches. 1. Remove presser foot and attach snap-on narrow hemmer foot. 5. Raise the needle and the presser foot, and then hold the ends of the upper thread and lower thread to prevent them from being pulled out of the fabric and pull the fabric out from the front of the presser foot. 2. Select the straight stitch (center needle position). 3. Connect the foot controller so that both hands are free to guide the fabric. 6. Holding both threads, pass them through the curled part HINTS: If too little fabric is wrapped around the curl and a of the presser foot and pull them toward the back of the threefold seam is not being sewn: pull the fabric held in your presser foot. Wrap the fabric around the curled part of the right hand to the left in order to increase the amount of fabric presser foot in the same way. The amount of gold swimming pools,1 and almost three-quarters of all of the world’s gold deposits have already been exhausted.2 Due to increasing the world now consumes more gold than ever before, leading to the production of 3,000 tons of gold per year, twice what was produced in 1970. The diminishing supply and increasing demand, combined with criminal and armed groups’ quest for new sources of illicit revenue, has contributed to a surge in illegal extraction of gold from increasingly remote and lawless regions.3 Introduction In-depth research carried out by Verité has found that Latin American countries export reputational risks for major companies with gold in their supply chains.     Is This Jazz? Newport Jazz Festival ’17 Cecile McLorin Salvant, credit: Norman Grant The jazz world descended upon Newport to see some of the music’s legends as well as many of its rising stars. As is always the case with such events, the hardest part of the weekend was catching a significant portion of each great set before running full speed to another stage to try and catch the next historic moment that could be unfolding. It was tough to get it all in, but here are some of the highlights. The festival kicked off Friday with a stellar set from the Jimmy Greene Quartet on the Fort stage. Greene — the saxophonist and band leader — took his quartet through a set of terrific originals, including the flowing groove of “Second Breakfast” off his latest release Flowers. Later on, Cecile McLorin Salvant and the Aaron Diehl Trio took the stage and shattered minds with their beautiful and complex arrangements, including her profound version of “Wives And Lovers.” Having a soft spot for the New Orleans clarinet style, Evan Christopher’s Clarinet Road & New Orleans Brass was a much- appreciated addition to the Quad stage with a killer band, locked-in swing and loose group improvisations. The day closed out with Joey DeFrancesco + The People, who were by far the funkiest, most swinging band of the day. DeFrancesco is a monster organ player who demonstrated why he has redefined how the instrument is approached. After leaving the Fort I headed over to watch Rhiannon Giddens and Trombone Shorty each play very different, but equally excellent sets at the Tennis Hall of Fame.
