Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association DATE: June 23, 2015 For Immediate Release Contact: Nikki Warner Director of Communications [email protected], (719) 477-1870 x. 105 MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL PLAYERS ALUMNI ASSOCIATION BRINGS LEGENDS FOR YOUTH BASEBALL CLINIC AND CELEBRITY SOFTBALL GAME TO READING, PA Event to feature Dickie Noles, Andy Ashby and other MLB Alumni Colorado Springs, Colo. – Local youth will have an opportunity to play with their big league heroes at the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association (MLBPAA) Legends for Youth baseball clinic on Thursday, June 25th, 2015. The free baseball clinic features Major League Baseball players who will teach baseball skills, drills and life lessons for approximately 200 local youth ages 6 – 16. The Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association and the Big Vision Foundation will also host a celebrity softball game featuring former Philadelphia Phillies, MLB All-Stars, World Series champions and other alumni players. The event will also take place on Thursday, June 25th. Alumni players attending* the event include 1980 Philadelphia Phillies World Series champion Dickie Noles, two-time All Star Andy Ashby and 2000 Team USA member and Olympic gold medalist Rick Krivda. Also attending the event are Shawn Barton, Howie Bedell, Frank Bolick, Doug Clemens, Chuck Goggin, Bob Kaiser, Derrick May, Garrett Stephenson, Rich Surhoff and Jay Witasick. The clinic and celebrity softball game will take place at the Big Vision Sports Complex, located at 1098 County Welfare Road, Leesport, PA 19533. The clinic will run from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Alumni players will train at stations including pitching, catching, baserunning and life skills. Registration will begin at 10:00 a.m. The morning will conclude with an autograph session for children in attendance. To register for this clinic, please visit www.baseballalumni.com. Registration is required. The celebrity softball game will begin at 6:00 p.m., also taking place at the Big Vision Sports Complex. The thrills and fascinations of his athletic exploits were chronicled by the mass media beginning in 1917 through the 1920s in a way that addressed the central themes of the mythic Great American Novel. Killinger’s personal and public life matched the cultural medley that defined the nation in the first quarter of the twentieth-century. His life plays outs as if it were a Horatio Alger novel, as the anxieties over turn-of-the- century immigration and urbanization, the uncertainty of commercializing formerly amateur sports, social unrest that challenged the status quo, and the resiliency of the individual confronting challenges of World War I, sport, and social alienation.

    Allen Says Thank You, Chicago By Paul Ladewski Posted on Tuesday, June 12 Thirty-eight years had passed since Dick Allen met with the Chicago media on Monday akfternoon, but from the looks of him, they have been kind to the former White Sox great. A lot grayer and a bit heavier than in his glory days, the 70-year-old Allen looked to be in good shape nonetheless. He laughed and smiled and spoke from the heart about several subjects, namely, the 1972 team that was the surprise of baseball and put a teetering franchise back on track. “I'm very proud of the '72 bunch,” he said. “We learned a lot of baseball together, including me, a lot of it I've forgotten.” As one of the leaders of a predominately young squad, Allen turned in a Most Valuable Player sea- son – .308 batting average, 38 home runs and 113 RBI. Yet he spoke frequently about the unusual team chemistry and the role it had in its success.
