on’ble President and the HSupreme Commander of the Armed Forces of India, Mr Pranab Mukherjee, reviewed the Fleet comprising naval warships from Indian as well as frontline foreign navies on February 6, 2016. This was the 11th Fleet Review after Independence and the second with participation of foreign navies. After a 21-Gun salute and ceremonial Guard of Honour, the President embarked INS Sumitra, an indigenously built Naval Offshore Patrol Vessel (NOPV) designated President receiving the IFR memento from Defence Minister as the ‘Presidential Yacht’. The President was received by the Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Mr Manohar Parrikar and Admiral RK Dhowan, Chief of the Naval Staff. On leaving harbor, the President’s Yacht weaved through the 70 ships at anchorage off Visakhapatnam port. A spectacular fly-past was conducted as a part of the static review of the Fleet. During the final stage of the review, a mobile column of warships and submarines carried out high speed steam past alongside the Presidential yacht. Addressing the Fleet during the Review, the Hon’ble President said President receiving the salute during Guard of Honour that IFR 2016, while showcasing the prowess of the , has brought together navies from across the globe here on Indian shores, signifying our common desire to use the seas to promote peace, cooperation and friendship, as also to develop partnerships for a secure maritime future. The resounding sound of ‘Three Jais’ by the ships’ crew echoed over the waves symbolising the spirit of camaraderie and bonhomie across the seas. Along the way, the Hon’ble President also witnessed demonstrations in the form of breathtaking fly-past by Naval Air Arm and a daring display by the elite Marine Commandos. The fly- past comprised 15 formations of 45 aircraft including two formations from the Indian Coast Guard. Traditional Andhra origin dance Kuchipudi and Dhimsa was also showcased by the Gandham group. The programme culminated with a scintillating performance of the Sri Lankan Naval Band and dance troupe. The event formally culminated with performance by a Joint International Band Concert at the Naval Officers’ Institute this evening. Naval Bands from participating Navies along with host Indian Navy jointly presented a bouquet of music in front of Admiral RK Dhowan, Chief of the Naval Staff, the Chief Guest for the event.

eating the Retreat ceremony at Bthe Vijay Chowk on January 29th marked the culmination of the four- day-long Republic Day celebrations. This year, 15 Military Bands, 18 Pipes and Drums Bands from Regimental Centres and Battalions participated in Beating the Retreat ceremony. Besides one each of Indian Navy and band also formed part of the event. This year for the first time bands from the State Police and Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) performed at the ceremony. The

bands comprising Border Security Force (BSF), Indo-Tibet Border Police (ITBP) and Delhi Police played the tunes ‘Samvidhan’, ‘Abhinandan’ and ‘Carriappa’. The Tri-Services Military Band, Indian classical instruments Sinfonietta and Jazz Symphonic Orchestra played the tune ‘Agyat Youvana’ and the Indian Classical Instruments Sinfonietta played the tune ‘Bharat Humko Jaan Se Pyara Hai’ added flavour to the ceremony. As many as 20 out of 26 performances have been composed by Indian musicians. Other tunes

epalese Army Chief General Rajendra Chhetri Narrived on February 1, 2016 for a six-day official visit to India. He was conferred with the Honorary rank of General of the Indian Army by Hon’ble President Mr Pranab Mukherjee during a investiture ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan February 3, 2016. he , Mr TNarendra Modi took the Salute at an impressive ceremonial parade held at Garrison Parade Ground Delhi Cantonment by the NCC Cadets on January 28, 2016. It was a grand spectacle of pageantry marked with precision as also a vibrant expression of pulsating energy and excellence embedded in the smart drill. 91 cadets from friendly foreign countries participating under Youth Exchange Programme (YEP) also marched along with their Indian counterparts. It was a true picture of aspirational India, on their journey to become worthy empowered citizens with sound values inculcated by a common powerful binding force – NATIONAL CADET CORPS. The PM Rally evolved in its present form in 1954 and since then all Prime Ministers have graciously presided over the event. About 2000 cadets participated in the rally this year which is a fine culmination of the month long NCC Republic Day Camp 2016. The smart march past by the cadets from all NCC Directorates carrying the National flag, the three services flags and the NCC flag included a mounted column and NCC bands marching in tune. Five Tableaux participating in the parade comprised Army, Naval and Air Wing, Sports and Adventure, Environmental, Social and community service activities. They magnificently showcased multifarious activities undertaken by the cadets. The Prime Minster then gave away trophies to prize winners. 5 GRENADIERS was raised on January 15, 1966 1under Lt Col PS Mahurkar. The “Dare Devils” history is abounded with examples of courage and determination of the brave soldier of the Battalion. In its fifty years of Golden History, the Paltan has numerous achievements to cherish in almost every tenure of the country. The Battalion has proved its mettle in all the roles assigned to it and has won the respect for the “White Hackle”. Battalion participated in Op Cactus Lily during 1971 Operations and captured twin towns of Harar Kalan and Harar Khurd. In another rare feat, the Battalion has the singular distinction of being one of the first units to be awarded COAS Unit Citation on its inception in January 1993. 15 Grenadiers is a highly decorated unit with one Kirti Chakra, five Shaurya Chakra, 19 Sena Medal and six mention-in-dispatches. In addition to this unit has been highly appreciated in the capital of India for undertaking a wide range of tasks from security during Army Day Parade and Independence Day Parade to org adm events of a large scale. He has also held a number of important staff as well as instructional appointments during his career. Lt Gen Sarath Chand is a recipient of Uttam Yudh Sena Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal.
