This study evaluated the seasonality of Sphingidae spp. in two areas of savannah, in the eastern Brazilian Amazon, sampled for one year (June, 2014 through May, 2015) with the aid of Pennsylvania light traps placed at four sampling points. Data on fauna were obtained through the following parameters: abundance (N), richness (S), composition, Shannon diversity and uniformity indices (H’ and U’), and the Berger-Parker (BP) dominance index. Richness estimates were calculated using Bootstrap, Chao1, ACE, Jackknife 1, and Jackknife2 estimators. The Pearson correlation was also used to analyze the effect of climatic variables such as rainfall, temperature, and relative humidity on richness and abundance. The result for the parameters analyzed during the entire sampling period was N= 374, S= 34, H’= 2.59, U= 0.733 and BP= 0.235. The estimation of richness showed that between 63% and 87% of expected species were collected (Bootstrap estimated 39 species and Chao1 estimated 54). The most representative species were: Isognathus caricae (Linnaeus, 1758) (N= 88), Enyo lugubris lugubris (Linnaeus, 1771) (N= 58), Isognathus menechus (Boisduval, [1875]) (N= 46) and Cocytius duponchel (Poey, 1832) (N= 44), with 54% of the sample containing species considered rare divided into 298 male and 76 female specimens. -

Sampling occurred at a height of 34 m in an upland primary rainforest plateau in the Cueiras River basin, located within the Experimental Station of Tropical Silviculture, Manaus municipality, Amazonas, Brazil. The hawkmoths were collected using a vertical white sheet illuminated by a 250 W mixed mercury light and a 20 W black-light (BLB) fluorescent tube. Monthly collections were carried out from January to December 2004, during three nights of lunar transition from third quarter moon to new moon between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. We sampled 1748 specimens, represented by 1485 males and 263 females, belonging to 52 species and 21 genera. Xylophanes comprised the highest number of species (seven), followed by Erinnyis, with six species. The most abundant species were Pseudosphinx tetrio (169 specimens), Pachylia darceta (162), Erinnyis ello ello (154), Isognathus excelsior (151) and Callionima parce (139). The species accumulation curve showed that the species richness tended to stabilize by the eighth month. We also observed that species composition altered significantly throughout the night period. All presented hawkmoth records are new for the canopy in the central Amazon. -

Rapport SEAG Résumé – objet du rapport Dans la poursuite des inventaires menés en 2011 et 2012, l'entomofaune de quatre zones naturelles d'intérêt écologique, faunistique et floristique (ZNIEFF) situées dans le sud-ouest de la Martinique a été échantillonnée. Des techniques de collecte variées (pièges d'interception, piège lumineux, pièges aériens, recherche active et mise en émergence) ont été utilisées durant une mission de terrain de 20 jours entre fin septembre et octobre 2013 et complétées par diverses prospections d'entomologistes martiniquais. Au total 970 spécimens comportant 177 espèces ont été déterminés. Les quatre ZNIEFF étudiées possèdent le même fonds de faune, typique de cette zone sud-ouest de la Martinique relativement bien préservée. Elles abritent des endémiques de Martinique. On observe notamment la présence de plusieurs taxons de forêt mésophile, dont il s'agit de la première mention dans le sud de la Martinique (Ochrus ornatus, Stizocera daudini notamment). Plusieurs espèces endémiques réputées rarissimes s'avèrent finalement assez répandues dans les reliques forestières bien conservées de cette zone (Trachyderes maxillosus ou Solenoptera quadrilineata par exemple). Elles restent cependant des espèces à fort enjeu patrimonial. La ZNIEFF de La Bertrand s'est révélée assez pauvre, ce qui traduit certainement un biais dans l'échantillonnage. Les sites les plus hauts, le Morne Bigot et le Morne des Pères, se sont avérés particulièrement riches. -

Se presenta un catálogo de los ejemplares tipo existentes en el Museo Argentino de Ciencias Naturales “Bernardino Rivadavia” y una lista de las especies de Sphingidae de la Argentina preservadas en el museo. Diez especies nominales, nueve de la Argentina y una de Perú, están representadas por 13 ejemplares tipo. La lista de especies se basa en el examen de 1724 ejemplares. Se aportan numerosos nuevos registros para la mayoría de las especies, expandiendo la distribución de 25 especies a nuevas provincias. Abstract: A catalog of all type specimens preserved in the Museo Argentino de Ciencias Naturales “Bernardino Rivadavia,” and a checklist of species of Argentinean Sphingidae kept in the museum, are presented. Ten nominal species, nine from Argentina and one from Perú, are represented by 13 type specimens. The checklist is based on the examination of 1724 specimens. Inventaire entomologique des ZNIEFF de Martinique. Rapport SEAG Résumé Dans la poursuite des inventaires menés depuis 2011, l'entomofaune de six sites situés dans le secteur de la Presqu'île de la Caravelle ont été échantillonnés en 2014. Il s'agit de cinq zones naturelles d'intérêt écologique, faunistique et floristique (ZNIEFF) et de la réserve naturelle de la Caravelle. Des techniques de collecte variées (pièges d'interception, piège lumineux, pièges aériens, recherche active et mise en émergence) ont été utilisées durant une mission de terrain de 20 jours en mai 2014 et complétées par une phase de terrain en septembre comprenant des techniques complémentaires (piège Malaise et assiettes jaunes en particulier). Au total 7 900 spécimens pour 380 espèces ont été déterminés par un ensemble de 27 spécialistes. Géographiquement proches, l'ensemble de ces sites possède un fonds de faune assez homogène, composé d'espèces de forêts sèches et d'espèces ubiquistes. Les analyses se sont appuyées sur la liste des insectes déterminants de ZNIEFF en Martinique, des espèces à la fois bien connues, endémiques et généralement localisées. La réserve de la Caravelle et la ZNIEFF 12 de Bois Pothau apparaissent comme les 2 sites les plus intéressants au regard de ces espèces déterminantes. La ZNIEFF 02 (Morne Régale, Pointe Batterie) s'est également révélée riche en espèces dont de nombreux endémiques.
