Sydney White – 2007 After pledging her late mother's once-dignified sorority, a college freshman aligns herself with seven social outcasts in an attempt to influence change over the school's flawed social hierarchy in this comedy starring Amanda Bynes. College freshman Sydney White (Bynes) has just arrived at Southern Atlantic University ready and eager to pledge her late mother's sorority. Once upon a time, this sorority was dignified and respected, but that pristine reputation has been tarnished now that blonde tyrant Rachel (Sara Paxton) has taken over as student council president. After surviving the sorority's vigorous pledging process, Syd is quickly banished for daring to question Rachel's regime. Now left with nowhere to go but a condemned house on the edge of Greek Row, the dejected and rejected pledge quickly makes friends with seven of the biggest social outcasts on campus. But while these socially challenged frat boys may not be much to look at, it gradually becomes apparent to Syd that they all have their fair share of admirable qualities -- especially love-struck super-geek Tyler (Matt Long). It was the first full-length cel-animated feature in motion picture history, as well as the first animated feature film produced in America, the first produced in full color, the first to be produced by Walt Disney, and the first in the Walt Disney Animated Classics canon At the film's opening, the Magic Mirror informs the Queen that Snow White is now the fairest in the land. The jealous Queen orders her huntsman to take Snow White into the woods and kill her, demanding that he bring her the dead girl's heart in a jeweled box as proof of the deed. The huntsman, unwilling to harm Snow White, instead spares her life, and urges her to flee into the woods and never come back, bringing back a pig's heart instead. Lost and frightened, the princess is befriended by woodland creatures who lead her to a cottage deep in the woods.all of the dwarfs (Grumpy is initially suspicious, but eventually warms to her) welcome her as a house guest after they learn she can cook. Snow White begins a new life cooking and keeping house for the dwarfs….. .

Lippincott Company 1899 RÍDAN THE DEVIL Rídan lived alone in a little hut on the borders of the big German plantation at Mulifenua, away down at the lee end of Upolu Island, and every one of his brown-skinned fellow-workers either hated or feared him, and smiled when Burton, the American overseer, would knock him down for being a 'sulky brute.' But no one of them cared to let Rídan see him smile. For to them he was a wizard, a devil, who could send death in the night to those he hated. And so when anyone died on the plantation he was blamed, and seemed to like it. Once, when he lay ironed hand and foot in the stifling corrugated iron 'calaboose,' with his blood-shot eyes fixed in sullen rage on Burton's angered face, Tirauro, a Gilbert Island native assistant overseer, struck him on the mouth and called him 'a pig cast up by the ocean.' This was to please the white man. But it did not, for Burton, cruel as he was, called Tirauro a coward and felled him at once. By ill-luck he fell within reach of Rídan, and in another moment the manacled hands had seized his enemy's throat. For five minutes the three men struggled together, the white overseer beating Rídan over the head with the butt of his heavy Colt's pistol, and then when Burton rose to his feet the two brown men were lying motionless together; but Tirauro was dead.

FEMINISM AND CELEBRITY CULTURE IN SHAKESTEEN FILM by VICTORIA L. REYNOLDS (Under the Direction of SUJATA IYENGAR) ABSTRACT This thesis examines the effectiveness of popular culture’s interpretation of third wave feminist thought. It places a particular focus on the genre of “Shakesteen” films made popular in the late 1990s and early 2000s, which adapted Shakespearean plays for American teen audiences. Within that focus, this thesis discusses the celebrity personae of two women whose careers were furthered by Shakesteen roles: Julia Stiles and Amanda Bynes. Ultimately, it seeks to determine whether it is possible to portray a political movement in a way that is culturally palatable without compromising the goals of that movement. We often think that fairy tales, especially Disney ones, are meant for children, but are they? Fairy tales contain significant amounts of violence, dark magic, monsters, thievery, cannibalism, and sex--things that are usually seen as inappropriate for children. In addition to presenting a lot of gruesome and seemingly immoral content, fairy tales also construct and reinforce positive social norms. This course will address the dark and sometimes nasty side of fairy tales as we examine the specific roles they have played in creating and supporting cultural ideals. We will center our examination on stories and films based on the classic tales of Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Little Red Riding Hood, Sleeping Beauty, and Snow White. This course will be suitable for English majors and minors and will satisfy the literature (L) general education requirement. This course satisfies the literature (L) general education requirement. The Rollins faculty has described the purpose of the L requirement this way: “The L requirement seeks to develop lifelong readers, sensitive to the richness of literary texts and to the pleasure of exploring that richness.

Sydney White was released on September 27, 2007 in USA with English. The film runtime is 108 minutes. The film setting is Church Street Station - 129 W, Church Street, Orlando, Florida, USA. Sydney White is written by Chad Gomez Creasey. He was born February 5, 1979 in Colorado. He graduated with a cum laude degree in political science from Pepperdine University. Later on, being paid by MFA in Film Producing at the Peter Stark Producing Program at the USC School of Cinema-Television where he met his creative partner and future wife, Dara Resnik. Their first collaboration was on their award-winning short film, "Great Lengths”. He also writes some movie stories. They are Great Lengths (2004), Bitches (2007), The Legend of Merle McQuoddy (2008), and Legally Blondes (2009). Sydney White tells about Sydney White who is the daughter of a plumber, and has grown up among construction workers ever since her mother died when she was nine. Sydney earns a scholarship for college and hopes to follow the legacy of her mother and enter the Kappa Phi Nu sorority. Shortly 1 2 after arriving at Southern Atlantic University, Sydney clashes with the sorority president Rachel Witchburn, after Rachel sees Sydney talking to her ex- boyfriend Tyler Prince.

In addition, any quotation or extract must include full attribution. 2 ABSTRACT The last decade has seen a dramatic increase in media output aimed at “tweens” (preadolescent girls), and the expansion more broadly of tween popular culture. This exclusively female preadolescent consumer demographic is seen to emerge alongside a heightened visibility of girls within popular culture since the mid-1990s, and continuing anxieties about girlhood in this intensely mediated environment. However, this burgeoning field has yet to be matched in academic attention. This thesis offers a timely examination of mainstream tween films, television programmes, celebrities and extra-texts from 2004 onwards, including “princess” narratives The Prince & Me (2004, 2006, 2008, 2010) and A Cinderella Story (2004, 2008, 2011), and Disney Channel programming and Original Movies, Hannah Montana (2006-2011) and Camp Rock (2008, 2010). It forges a dialogue between postfeminism, film and television, celebrity, and the figure of the tween, in order to examine how the tween is both constructed and addressed by the films and television programmes that make up tween popular culture. Tweenhood is a discursive construction emerging in the mid-1990s and coming to cultural prominence in the early twenty-first century.
