At 18, Jehan is now being looked on as ‘the next big thing’ in the world of motorsports. Recent Success Jehan created history once again by becoming the first Indian to win at the FIA European F3 Championship in Norisring, Germany. Graduated from the FORMULA RENAULT 2.0 Lewis Hamilton, Felipe Massa, Daniel Ricciardo, Romain Grosjean, Valtteri Bottas. What is the one thing common between all these drivers apart from the very obvious F1? All these drivers have been discovered while their stint in the Formula Renault 2.0. In fact, Kimi Raikkonen, one of the all- time greats of the sport, fast-tracked his career by directly progressing to F1 after participating in Formula Renault. “To make it into the battle of F1, the Renault Sport Series is a good place to start.” – Eurosport Australia INDUCTED IN THE BRDC The British Racing Drivers’ Club, considered to be the most exclusive club in motor racing and home to the most successful drivers in Great Britain and the Commonwealth have inducted Jehan into their Rising Stars programme. The BRDC is extremely selective when it comes to it’s members and has a proven track record of selecting only the best of individuals. Lewis Hamilton MBE and Alex Lloyd are the two particular success stories from the Rising Stars scheme’s history. In addition to maintaining and operating the Silverstone circuit, the only circuit currently licensed to run a Grand Prix in Britain, the BRDC has for many years fostered young driving talent. Jehan is now one of the very few Indian drivers to be invited to join such a prestigious club. This is a massive step in his career. JEHAN IN THE NEWS JEHAN IN THE NEWS COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS Moving ahead, we’ve compared Jehan’s career timeline with that of the Indian drivers who’ve raced in the F1 and also with the international benchmarks to give a clearer perspective and a better understanding of where Jehan stands right now. Indian Benchmarks Age Jehan Daruvala Narain Karthikeyan Karun Chandhok At the age of 16 and 17, while Jehan started competing on the Raced at the Formula Stood 5th in his debut Indian National European tracks and bagging Maruti in India and year of Formula Racing Champion in podiums (4 in his first year) in 16 Formula Vauxhall racing at the FR 2.0 the Formula Maruti the highly competitive Formula Junior Championship NEC series Renault Series, Narain was in the UK participating in much less competitive championships that 2nd at the Toyota Raced in the Formula did not even carry super licence Racing Series in NZ Ford Zetec Series and Won the Formula 17 points (required to be eligible to and 4th in the FR 2.0 the British Formula Asia Championship drive in the F1) and Karun was NEC Ford Winter Series still participating in Indian and Asian championships. Narain managed to get a European 26 Made his F1 debut podium only at the age of 25 and Karun at the age of 23. This is basically showing how far ahead 28 Made his F1 debut Jehan is at this age than where Narain and Karun were at the same age. International Benchmarks Age Jehan Daruvala Lewis Hamilton The point to be noted here is that last year, Jehan was Stood 5th in his debut 5th in the FR 2000 UK exactly where Hamilton was 16 year of Formula racing Winter Series at the age of 16. Even this at the FR 2.0 NEC year, Jehan is exactly where Hamilton was at that point in 2nd at the Toyota 3rd in the FR 2000 UK his career. Lewis Hamilton 17 Racing Series in NZ and and 5th in the FR 2000 (31) is racing in the F1 till 4th in the FR 2.0 NEC Eurocup date. The company is believed to have taken the decision after indications in Japan that the automotive markets are not getting any better, Honda having recently announced a 56% drop in earnings in the last quarter, compared to 2008. Prior to that the company was looking at other options, such as selling the team on to someone else. This has now been axed and the company will simply close things down and settle all the necessary contractual commitments as quickly as possible. The news, if confirmed, will be another blow to the manufacturer power in F1 as it will be the third withdrawal by a major car company in 11 months, following in the footsteps of Honda and BMW. There are also doubts about the future of Renault's factory team. The news will also be a blow to the Formula One Teams' Association, although the members have learned that working together produces much better results than trying to take on the authorities alone. It also means that there are now just three manufacturers left: Ferrari, Mercedes and Renault, and engine supply from Cosworth will become essential to ensure there are sufficient engines to go around.

  • Hughes Propelled to First F3 Win Following Late PREMA Collision
30 June, 2019 Hughes propelled to first F3 win following late PREMA collision Contact between Shwartzman and Armstrong hands Hughes Race 2 victory Jake Hughes claimed his first ever FIA Formula 3 win in controversial circumstances after leader Robert Shwartzman caused a collision with teammate Marcus Armstrong on the final lap of Race 2 in Austria. The Russian had been unwavering for the majority of the morning, but lost his nerve when his teammate scampered past him in the dying embers and inadvertently cut the Kiwi’s rear tyre in an attempt to reclaim first. Despite suffering damage to his front wing, the Russian managed to complete his final tour of the Red Bull Ring in first, but was demoted to third after a five second time penalty was added for causing the collision. This saw Hughes promoted to the top of the podium for his first ever win in the category, ahead of Jehan Daruvala. The HWA RACELAB man begun the morning in second and failed in his initial efforts to pass reverse poleman Lirim Zendeli who wasn’t prepared to let the position go and toughed it out around the outside of the Brit at Turn 1 to retain the lead. Pedro Piquet suffered heartbreak at the start when he lost control of his Trident and rotated at the first turn, chucking him back to P29 and ending his hopes of a first F3 win. The front seven positions proved interchangeable in the first lap and Armstrong managed to force his way to third behind Zendeli and Hughes.

The calendar has been finalised and the tracks booked and HRC are just waiting to finalise with the classes what events they wish to run at before we announce the full list of classes running at each event. Some events are already full with eleven classes which is really the limit we can run at a two day meeting. Some interesting projects coming up including a possible new motoring TV show (f we can get support) and a rerun of the B & H 500. HRC are endeavouring to run Classic meetings and Mixed Meetings as separate events with the classic meetings with older cars and hopefully cars with COD’s. Unfortunately for commercial reasons we have to have some non-classic classes at these meeting to make them viable. The classic meetings are the Icebreaker 28/29th September Hampton Downs, Tasman Revival Hampton Downs 25/26th January, Tasman Revival Pukekohe 22/23rd February, Paul Fahey NZ Legends of Speed 21/22nd March Hampton Downs, Jack Nazer Classic Taupo 25/26th April. At these we will run BMW classes and ERC and while COD’s for these classes are not mandatory the cars competing in most cases could get COD’s. Race meeting organisers do need classes to combine as entry fees cannot keep rising.
