Praise the Father, Praise The Stewardship Prayer Loving and faithful God, we place our lives in your hands. You are our shelter in the storm and our comfort in dark and troubled times. May we always place our trust in you when we find ourselves lost and overwhelmed. You ask us to believe and to keep our eyes focused on you. Send your Spirit to help us do that always. We trust that you are working on our behalf to bring all things to good. May we celebrate the joy and peace of your kingdom that even now is in our midst. We ask this through Christ our risen Lord. Amen. — Submitted by the Stewardship Committee Please stand. Praise the Father, Praise the Son Chris Tomlin | Ed Cash Verse 1 Chorus 1 Now peace like water ever flows O sov'reign God O matchless King (Oh) praise the Father praise the Son The saints adore the angels sing (And) praise the Spirit Three in One Bridge And fall before the throne of grace Clothed in power and in grace Yours is the kingdom To You belongs the highest praise The name above all other names Yours is the power Yours is the glory forever Verse 2 Verse 3 Yours is the kingdom These sufferings this passing tide To the valley for my soul Yours is the power Under Your wings I will abide Thy great descent Yours is the glory forever And ev'ry enemy shall flee has made me whole You are my hope and victory Your word my heart has welcomed home I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, That I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my words, In what I have done and in what I have failed to do, Striking breast 3 times ** Through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault; Therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all the Angels and Saints, And you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God. Deuteronomy 4:32-34,39-40 The book of Deuteronomy contains a lengthy speech that Moses addressed to the people as they prepared to enter the Promised Land. This was a place where the people worshipped many gods and goddesses. Moses reminds them that there is only one God the One who brought them out of Egypt. Lector: The Word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God. Psalm 33 (Bolduc) Blessed the people the Lord has chosen to be his own Romans 8:14-17 Paul’s letter to the Romans is his most detailed and important theological work. In this portion of the letter, Paul stresses the importance of the Holy Spirit in the lives of Christians. Through the Spirit’s presence within us, we enjoy not only new life, but also a new relationship with God, whom we can call by a new name. Lector: The Word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God. Alleluia Revelation 1:8 Glory to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; to God who is, who was, and who is to come. Matthew 28: 16-20 Today’s reading from Matthew relates the “Great Commission” that Jesus gave the disciples to baptize all nations. Although there are other times in the Gospels that the Holy Trinity was present (i.e. Jesus’ Baptism), this is the only time that the phrase “in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit” is used. It has come down to us as the familiar phrase the Church uses in each Baptism Liturgy. Deacon/Priest: The Gospel of the Lord. All: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. Please be seated. Please stand. • All-Chapel Worship Celebration
welcome to the first monthly ALL-CHAPEL WORSHIP CELEBRATION of Imago Dei Anglican Church August 30, 2020 WHAT’S IN A NAME? We believe God is Trinity, that is, God has always existed as a community of persons dwelling in perfect love and that he made humanity in his own image, the imago Dei - to share in that love. Sadly, that image in each of us has been marred and broken as our individual stories are riddled with pain, disappointment, broken relationships, loss, and at times hopelessness. But your story isn’t all there is. There’s another story that began before you were born and continues to be written right now… it’s God’s story of reconcilia- tion and restoration. Right now God is inviting you and me to join this story; to allow ourselves to be reconciled and restored in his love, and to bring this to the broken world around us. The doorway to participating in this story is Jesus, whose life, death, and resurrection was for this very purpose. When we join God’s story through Jesus, we find out who we really are: fiercely loved by a God who desires to restore the imago Dei in you. We are weak and broken people who don’t have it all together but desire God and desire to follow in the way of Jesus. We are not just a worship service, a do-good agency, a social club, or a group of friends. We are a collection of regional chapels across this region who together seek to enjoy God, love others, and join with Jesus in the restoration of all things.
