At Church of the Resurrection, we believe that you can be transformed by encountering the love of Jesus. BISHOP: Almighty Father, we thank you for raising up among us your faithful servant Stephen as Dean to oversee the ministry of your word and sacraments in this Cathedral and for rasising up your servants Mathew and Brett to serve as Vicars to serve in the ministry of your word and sacrament in this cathedral. We pray that they may be to us a godly example in word and action, in love and patience, and in holiness of life. Grant that we, with them, may serve you now and rejoice in your glory forever; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and always. ALL: Amen. 6 CHURCH OF THE RESURRECTION churchrez.org 7 Presentation of the Letters BISHOP: Dearly beloved, we have assembled in the presence of God for the purposes of instituting the new Dean, and installing the new Vicars of this Cathedral. WARDENS: Right Reverend Father in God, on behalf of the Cathedral Church of the Resurrection, we present Stephen Clarke Williamson as your appointed Cathedral Dean. We believe that he is well qualified and has been prayerfully and lawfully selected. The Bishop reads the Letter of Institution. The Bishop’s Chaplain gives the Letter to the Dean. DEAN: I, Stephen Clarke Williamson, receive this letter from your hands and recognize your episcopal authority. I promise to be a faithful shepherd to your flock, the Lord being my helper.” The Bishop reads the Letters of Installation. The Bishop’s Chaplain gives the Letters to the Vicars. The doorway to participating in this story is Jesus, whose life, death, and resurrection was for this very purpose. When we join God’s story through Jesus, we find out who we really are: fiercely loved by a God who desires to restore the imago Dei in you. We are weak and broken people who don’t have it all together but desire God and desire to follow in the way of Jesus. We are not just a worship service, a do-good agency, a social club, or a group of friends. We are a collection of regional chapels across this region who together seek to enjoy God, love others, and join with Jesus in the restoration of all things.

    Devotional Series: The Value of Family Family— a Divine Appointment By Leanna Simpson, Agape Executive Director I SAMUEL 1:10A “And Hannah made this vow: “O Lord of Heaven’s Armies, if you will look upon my sorrow and answer my prayer and give me a son, then I will give him back to you. He will be yours for his entire lifetime...” When I think about God’s orchestration and making of a family, I think of this passage. There are so many truths and weighted complexities that come from this story of Hannah, who is praying and pleading for a child. First, she is acknowledging that only God can choose to give each of us the gift of a child and He ordains it. Whether we have carried this child or taken them in as our own, they were created by God and we have been commissioned with their rearing. Second, a child is not our possession but a gift that should be stewarded and guided as a gift on “loan” from God for a season. Every child we are given was uniquely placed and designed to be a part of our family. There are no mistakes or coincidences with God. Thirdly, a child is neither created or designed by us and their future should not be either. It is a great burden to steward a child. As they are a creation by the Divine Creator, it is with great gravity that we should forever and always understand that we must “give them back to God” and raise them up to know what is righteous and true through the grid of the Scriptures.
