NOVITEC Refines the Ferrari Monza SP1 and SP2 Roadsters Engine NOVITEC refines the Ferrari Monza SP1 and SP2 roadsters Engine tuning to 621 kW / 844 hp with fine gold plated high-performance exhaust system made from INCONEL Hi-tech forged wheels with 21 and 22-inch diameters Never before did a street-legal Ferrari sports car deliver a driving experience as close to a Formula 1 racecar as the two open-top "Icona" special models Monza SP1 and SP2. These two roadsters are designed in the "barchetta" style lacking a large windshield and are a reminiscence of the Ferrari classics 166 MM, 750 Monza and 860 Monza. NOVITEC makes this experience even more intense: With engine tuning to 621 kW / 844 hp resulting from the installation of a tailor-made high-performance exhaust system and metal catalysts. The exhaust comes with optional 999 fine gold plating that dissipates heat particularly effectively. In concert with sport springs, staggered hi-tech forged wheels with diameters of 21 and 22 inches make the handling even more agile. They were developed specifically for these single-seat or two-seat roadsters in cooperation with American wheel manufacturer Vossen. Fitting the model designation, the photos show the SP1 refined by NOVITEC at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza. The single-seat Ferrari Monza SP1 like its two-seat counterpart is powered by the most potent twelve-cylinder engine in the history of the sports car manufacturer from Maranello. In order to optimize the performance of the 6.5-liter engine further, the power unit experts of NOVITEC, the world-renowned refinement specialist for Ferrari automobiles, developed a high-performance exhaust system with metal catalysts. Thanks to sophisticated exhaust headers and reduced exhaust backpressure, the system coaxes an additional 25 kW / 34 hp from the naturally aspirated V12 engine. At the same time, peak torque grows by 61 Nm. 621 kW / 844 hp at 8,450 rpm and 780 Nm of torque at 7,100 rpm make the tuned barchetta even sportier, give it even faster throttle response and further improve acceleration across the entire rev range. As a result, this NOVITEC performance package makes the driving experience even more intense. Consequently, the performance on the road is further optimized to boot. From rest, it takes just 2.8 seconds to reach a speed of 100 km/h. The top speed is far north of 300 km/h. The NOVITEC sport exhaust fits the SP1 as well as the SP2 and is optionally available with actively controlled exhaust flaps. In the latter case, a touch of a button dials in a decidedly subtle exhaust note. At high engine speeds and with the exhaust flaps open, the driver at the wheel of the potent open-top sports car can enjoy a uniquely intense symphony of power that celebrates the sound of the twelve-cylinder in all its glory. The photos taken in Monza show the Ferrari SP1 equipped with the most exclusive variant. This version features the NOVITEC INCONEL system completely plated with 999 fine gold. The use of this valuable precious metal optimizes the thermal protection thanks to its particularity good heat dissipation properties. The spectacular looks of the barchetta without windshield can be made even more extravagant with various NOVITEC wheels. US manufacturer Vossen produces the hi-tech forged wheels exclusively for the German tuning specialist in a multitude of colors and surface finish variants. The staggered combination of 21-inch wheels at the front and 22-inch wheels on the rear axle puts even more emphasis on the wedge shape of the open-top sports car. The NOVITEC NF10 wheels with five delicate double-spokes and stylized center lock shown in these photos offer outstanding strength. Nonetheless, they are some of the lightest examples in these king-sized dimensions worldwide. This is a pivotal factor behind the even more agile handling thanks to the reduced unsprung masses. The NOVITEC NF10 rim of size 10Jx21 for the front axle with size 275/30 ZR 21 high- performance tire makes perfect use of the available space under the wheel arches. Rear wheels of size 12.5Jx22 with 335/25 ZR 22 tires ensure maximum grip. The NOVITEC sport springs, which lower the ride height of both Ferrari Monza SP models with or without front lift system by about 35 millimeters, ensure looks that are even more spectacular and offer further enhanced driving dynamics as the result of the lower center of gravity. Furthermore, the tyres had to play their part in keeping weight to a minimum on the new car. To achieve this, instead of the traditional reinforced textiles, the bead area was redesigned to maintain lateral rigidity while minimising weight: this solution has saved 1.2 kilograms.

    Ex-Gendebien, Ginther, Shelby... and Warhol? The fastest Ferrari Monza was an 857S built for playboy team boss John Edgar. It was once owned by a Pop Art legend, says Mick Walsh, who is captivated by its colourful past PHOTOGRAPHY JAMES MANN Turn 6, his blue 121LM nearly cannoning back across the narrow track and hitting the 857S. Edgar’s frustration with Ferrari continued following a second 3½-litre engine failure during first practice at Cumberland in May. The straight-talking American threatened to sell his Ferraris and switch to Porsche, so a humbled Enzo instructed its immediate return for a rebuild. Having just sold several inherited farms in Ohio, Edgar was richer than ever. First he ordered a 410 Sport, then he signed up Shelby for his team. The tall Texan much preferred the big V12, but still drove the 857S on a regular basis through ’56, winning at Seattle, Mont- gomery and Mansfield. The fact that Enzo had sold Edgar a ‘used’ race car partly fuelled Shelby’s distrust of Ferrari, a feud that would continue with the Cobra and GT40. The Texan’s last drive in the 857S was at Pomona in ’57, but he went off into the hay bales with brake failure. After the body had been bashed out, Edgar sold 0588/M to Stan Sugarman, an Arizona industrialist who enlisted McAfee – and later Ginther – to drive it. The young, crew-cut Californian Ginther finished fourth at the first Laguna Seca meeting. America’s amateur racing scene had slowly started to turn more professional, with paid driv- ers, start money and bigger prizes.
