IniezioneIniezione The newsletter of the Northwest Alfa Romeo Club “Barn Find” at Alfa of Tacoma It was about a week before the Half-fast Lap last September when my friend, Steve Anderson (now a new club member) called, so excited about a “barn find” he had heard about that he couldn’t even wait for me to finish my shower. An uncle, Steve Bates, had been to his house for dinner the night before, and had told of a 1957 Alfa spider that his brother-in-law had taken to Alfa of Tacoma for repairs in 1977 and never picked up. Steve B’s brother-in-law, Phil George, had lived in Richland and acquired the car in about 1967. Steve remembers that Phil drove the car actively, and on one particular “hold on tight” ride, Phil told him that he and the Alfa “became one” when he drove. Steve had his doubts. When the engine began to show problems, Phil brought it to Alfa of Tacoma. Carlo ended up rebuilding the top and bottom ends, the front suspension, the brakes, and replaced the steering box. Carlo knew the car and said Phil had always taken good care of it, but when it came time to pick it up, he couldn’t pay for it. He stopped by often to see it, though. Phil remarried, but his new wife thought he really didn’t need that car, so there it sat, in the second bay from the window, on jack stands and under a cover. Phil died about five years ago and Lino had no idea how to contact any of the family. -

Molto più che una supercar Si tratta di una barchetta senza portiere disegnata in collaborazione con Granstudio di Lowie Vermeers che può essere personalizzata con l’aggiunta di un parabrezza e di un T- Frame, in modo da diventare uno spider sullo stile della 911 Targa per intenderci. Perciò solo 855 kg di peso spinti da un motore 4 cilindri di 2.3 litri in grado di erogare 400 cavalli. Per ottenere questo risultato, la vettura è stata realizzata con larghissimo impiego di materiali compositi. La Dallara Stradale adotta il motore Ford Ecoboost 2.3 sovralimentato, adeguatamente preparato grazie alla rimappatura dell’elettronica e all’adozione di un turbocompressore Stradale: La prima sportiva a marchio Dallara specifico. Di conseguenza la trasmissione prevede di serie il cambio manuale a 6 rapporti, per una guida il più coinvolgente possibile e in un certo senso romantica, mentre a richiesta si può ottenere il cambio robotizzato. -

15 questions to Matthias Hinz and Michael Maasmeier of SCUDERIA AZZURRA Please introduce yourselves and your company. What is your company’s field of expertise? Maasmeier: My partners Matthias Hinz and Lukas Mühlemann are passionate classic car lovers – just like me. We have been collecting classic cars for decades. This passion for classic cars has brought us together, regardless of national borders. We have long been looking for the perfect restoration, but our expectations remained unfulfilled. Eventually, we decided to take matters into our own hands and founded SCUDERIA AZZURRA. We are offering classic Maserati, Alfa Romeo and Lancia on the international market. All cars have been restored in top condition exclusively by us in our own workshop. Using original components, we restore the cars completely, from car body, engine and gearboxes to technology. When did you fall for classic automobiles? Was there a key experience in your childhood/youth that turned you into a classic car lover? Hinz: I bought my first classic car, then a rather modern classic, at the age of 18. It was a 1968 VW Beetle Convertible. With the help of an alleged expert, I gained a first insight into car restoration. I discovered my passion for Italian sports cars in the early 90s. I read an article on a Lancia Flaminia Touring Coupé in a magazine for classic cars and it was love at first sight. I was so excited that I took the next opportunity and bought one in the US, without even looking at it beforehand. Maasmeier: My father was a true sports car fan and owned a Jaguar.
