Communication from Public

Instead, I give you this written comment of what I attended to say: My name is Patty Glueck of the Aliso Moms Alliance. I’m in agreement of closing the Playa Del Rey gas storage site, but Aliso Canyon’s DANGEROUS facility also needs to be shut down. Please, Madam President Nury Martinez, waive the Aliso resolution out of the Rules committee where it’s been languishing for 16 months now and that’s unacceptable. I serve on the Aliso Canyon Disaster Health Study’s Community Advisory Group, and I know all too well that there’s an increasing number of cancer diagnoses in the Northern , many of which are due to the poly toxins being emitted every day from these wells. The health of Angelenos should be valued more than SoCalGas profits. Communication from Public

Re: Opposition to Resolution – Council File #20-0002-S22

Dear Councilmember Bonin,

We are contacting you on behalf of BizFed, the Los Angeles Business Federation. We are an alliance of over 200 business organizations who represent over 400,000 employers in Los Angeles County.

The City of Los Angeles relies on natural gas from Southern Gas Company’s (SoCalGas) regional facilities – including their Playa del Rey facility – to meet the energy needs of residents. Our homes, schools, hospitals, and local businesses all rely on natural gas – it keeps these essential spaces warm in the winter, cool in the summer, and operational all year long.

As you will recall from last year, the rolling blackouts throughout the state caused hardships for millions of Californians. In a state as large, diverse, and economically viable as California – it is inexcusable that during extreme weather months our residents are met with requests for scarcity or be faced with power outages. We have no reason to believe that the summer months will be cooler than last year and, with the pandemic still looming, there is good reason to believe residents will still be living/working from home and need access to reliable energy.

By keeping SoCalGas’ Playa del Rey facility open, we will not only help ensure our region maintains access to reliable and affordable energy, but we will also demonstrate the prioritization of our communities’ safety and well-being as we continue to endure the COVID-19 pandemic.

Thank you for taking my stance into consideration.

Sincerely,

Donna Duperron David Fleming Tracy Hernandez BizFed Chair BizFed Founding Chair BizFed Founding CEO Torrance Area Chamber IMPOWER, Inc.
