Over 10,500 names are treated including 6,793 valid species and subspecies (with 1,907 primary synonyms), 1,271 genera and subgenera (with 393 primary synonyms), 93 families and 38 superfamilies. Nomenclatural and taxonomic problems are reviewed in detail, and many resolved. Detailed notes and references are provided where necessary. The constitution of a large number of families and superfamilies is discussed in detail, with the positions of some taxa rearranged in an attempt to form a stable base for future taxonomic studies. This is the first time the nomenclature of any large group of decapod crustaceans has been examined in such detail. Dat klinkt duister en kil en riekt naar spinnenwebben en vochtig beschimmelde hoekjes. Maar dat pakt anders uit. Deze uitgave, samengesteld uit twaalf delen, biedt de meer dan gemiddeld geïnteresseerde, verhelderende kaartjes, duidelijke teksten en foto’s van de historisch- geografische regio’s van Nederland. Zo geeft het een compleet beeld van Nederland anno toen, nu en de tijd die daar tussen zit. De hoofdstukken over de deelgebieden/regio’s schetsen in het kort een karakteristiek per gebied. De cultuurhistorische blikvangers worden gepresenteerd. Voor de fijnproevers volgt hierna een nadere uiteenzetting. De ontwikkeling van het landschap, de bodem en het reliëf, en de bewoningsgeschiedenis worden in beeld gebracht. Het gaat over de ligging van dorpen en steden, de verkavelingsvormen in het agrarisch land, de loop van wegen, kanalen en spoorlijnen, dijkenpatronen, waterlopen, defensielinies met fortificaties. -

Additional sand resources on Trinity and Tiger Shoals are also being considered. Since this area supports major demersal fisheries on white and brown shrimp (Litopenaeus setiferus and Farfantepenaeus aztecus), the present study was conducted as part of a larger effort to understand the sand-mining ecology of the Ship/Trinity/Tiger Shoal Complex (STTSC). -

Adang Police Academy of the Netherlands Abstract For the European football championships (Euro 2000) held in Belgium and the Netherlands in 2000, authorities embarked on a strategy that involved maximal use of international police co-operation. To evaluate the effort, feedback from foreign police officers deployed during Euro 2000 was explicitly sought. In each host city a team of observers carried out systematic observations and an international monitoring team independently made their own observations. In this paper Euro 2000 is used as a case study to investigate the nature of the international police cooperation in practice and its contribution to the management of public order. Keywords: Euro-2000; International police cooperation; public order management; football hooliganism Introduction According to Benyon (1992) there are many problems facing police forces of the European Union in establishing effective procedures for cooperation because of the large numbers of different law enforcement agencies, the rivalries and jealousies between and within agencies and the different approaches and perceptions of what policing is and how a policing agency should function. In addition, the existence of diverse cultures and traditions in each country and incompatible police communications and procedures added to quite different legal systems and organisational structures further complicate cooperation. Ingleton (1994) points to the fact that, within the European Union there are many official languages (nine in 1994, twenty-three in 2011) and that most police officers only speak their native tongue. -

In this article we present the results of a study towards the reality effects of discourses affecting the implementation of Natura 2000 in the Netherlands. The Dutch case shows how fast deinstitutionalization of conservation policies can take place. Traditions of conservation are disrupted as an unintended consequence of international policy. This study shows that conservationists and others involved in nature conservation should pay more attention to the ways in which conservation needs and practices are represented and institutionalized, how these representations become embedded in more general narratives and how the new institutions are bound to be gamed and re-narrated themselves. -

(Accepted 7 November 2000) Abstract By examining the morphological basis of force generation in the chelae (claws) of both molluscivorous and non-molluscivorous crabs, it is possible to understand better the difference between general crab claw design and the morphology associated with durophagy. This comparative study investigates the mor- phology underlying claw force production and intraspeci®c claw dimorphism in six brachyuran crabs: Callinectes sapidus (Portunidae), Libinia emarginata (Majidae), Ocypode quadrata (Ocypodidae), Menippe mercenaria (Xanthidae), Panopeus herbstii (Xanthidae), and P. obesus (Xanthidae). The crushers of the three molluscivorous xanthids consistently proved to be morphologically `strong,' having largest mechan- ical advantages (MAs), mean angles of pinnation (MAPs), and physiological cross-sectional areas (PCSAs). However, some patterns of variation (e.g. low MA in C. sapidus, indistinguishable force generation potential in the xanthids) suggested that a quantitative assessment of occlusion and dentition is needed to understand fully the relationship between force generation and diet. Interspeci®c differences in force generation potential seemed mainly to be a function of differences in chela closer muscle cross- sectional area, due to a sixfold variation in apodeme area.
