GRANT DESCRIPTION: An operations grant, subject to meeting minimum fundraising goals prior to December 31, 2006 ($250,000) and prior to August 31, 2007 ($150,000).

GRANT OBJECTIVES: Individuals will have the opportunity to hear and experience live orchestral music.

SUMMARY OF REPORTED FINDINGS:

During the 2006/2007 season the San Antonio Symphony presented: ¾ 24 classical : 34,569 tickets sold or distributed ¾ 17 pops concerts: 19,727 tickets sold or distributed ¾ 24 young people’s concerts for fourth and fifth graders (designed to State of Texas objectives in music, language arts and a core subject – science) reaching over 35,000 students ¾ 6 free community concerts (three in San Antonio, and one each in New Braunfels, Boerne, and Bandera): approximately 11,450 people attended

Special projects included: ¾ Youth of San Antonio (YOSA) Side-by-Side. Held March 4 at Laurie Auditorium, featured the top YOSA ensemble and the symphony together in a performance of standard orchestral repertoire. ¾ KLRN-TV. “Sounds of Summer” finale from Ft. Sam Houston was tape-broadcast at a later date due to inclement weather. ¾ The Nutcracker • Presented the Alabama Ballet • Collaborated with Arts San Antonio to present the Moscow Ballet ¾ Music and Dancing (presented at the Theater) • The Dave Bennett Sextet: 774 tickets sold or distributed • A Night in Old Vienna: New Year’s Eve celebration – 800 tickets sold or distributed ¾ A week in residence at St. Philip’s College. Presented seven open rehearsals, two master classes, two chamber concerts, and a full orchestra finale. All events were free and open to the public. ¾ Technology upgrades. Donor and finance software purchased with new ticketing software options still being explored. Website improvements included improved functionality as well as clips of works to be performed, interviews with conductors and artists, and photos and biographies of many of the musicians. Contributions can now be made on-line as well as season subscription purchases.
