Lynn F. Sald~in 725 Water Street Eaton Rapids Age 79, died Sunday, March 29, 1981. He was born in Onondaga and was a life time area resident. He was a certified public accountant having his own busi­ ness in Eaton Rapids since 1919. He served on the Eaton Rapids City Commi­ ssion, was a Justice of the Peace; a organizer and secretary of Eaton Rapids Conservation Club for many years; dir­ ector of the Michigan United Conserva­ tion Clubs for 20 years. He was a Dir­ ector for the Michigan Water Resources for 17 years and he was a life member of the Eaton Rapids Masonic Lodge. Survived by his wife Lucille; 1 daughter, Mrs. Ralph (Carolyn) Natusch of Quincy; 3 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Memorial service will be held Thursday, April 2, 1:30 p.m. from the Skinner Chapel, with Rev. David D'Arcy and the Masonic Lodge of Eaton Rapids officia­ ting. Sattley, Cecil M. Mrs. Cecil M. Sattley, 9Q·years of age, a life long resident of Eaton Rapids, died Saturday, December 26 in Port 2

Charlotte, Florida. Mrs. Sattley was born April 1, 1891, daughter of Daniel and Cora Wells and lived with her hus­ band Clarence at 434 Canal Street for many years. Clarence preceded her in death in 1976. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, O.E.S. # 241 and the Royal Neighbors. .Survi­ ving is one daughter, Mrs. Merle South­ well of Charlotte; one son, Clarence of Port Charlotte, Florida; six grandchild­ ren; 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. One daughter, Marlowe died in 1972. Mrs. Sattley was cremated in Florida and Memorial Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Decem­ ber 30, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Jesse Dorr Baumer 2335 S. Cedar Street Age 85, died September 19, 1981. Born June 9, 1896 in Eaton Rapids. Mr. Bau­ mer graduated from Eaton Rapids High School and played in the high school band. He attended Michigan State Agri­ cultural College. Mr. Baumer was also a Union Musician, played with the MSU College Band, the REO Band, and Scott Munn's Band. He retired in 1963 from General Motors Drop Forge in the Tool & Die Dept. after many years, was also a lifetime member of Capital Lodge of S.O. #66 F&AM and had attended the Mt. 3

Hope United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wi.fe Orpha I~, 3 daughters, Mrs. Betty Keusch of Las Vegas, Mrs. Avis Hooker of Wayland, Mrs. Norma Everhard of Portland; 2 sons, Duane of Harri­ son, Walter of Lansing; 2 brothers, Lynn of Lansing and Ralph of , also surviving are 18 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday 1 p.m. at the Gorsline Runciman Lansing Chapel. Interment in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday & Monday 7-9 at the funeral home. Joseph (Eddy) Bofysil Eaton Rapids Formerly of Lansing Age 61, died Thursday, January 22, 1981 at the residence. He was a resident of Eaton Rapids for the past 10 years. Mr. Bofysil served in WWII with the 289th Infantry Regiment, 75th Division in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He was awarded the Purple Heart with OLC, EAME Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon, and the Victory Ribbon. Mr. Bofysil was past Commander and life member of D.A.V., past member of American Legion, member of V.F.W. Post, Quarter Century Club of Oldsmobile, past presi­ dent Ingham County Conservation Club, Oldsmobile Outdoor Club and Charter Club of Lansing. He was employed at Oldsmobile for 30 years until retirement 4 in 1974. Surviving beside his wife, Frances; are 6 children and 2 step­ children, Gary L., James G., Robert, Joseph E. Jr., Thomas; 1 daughter, Sandra Smith and step-son, Robert Whipp of Lansing; step-daughter, Mrs. Herbert (Holly) Kuipers of Battle Creek. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren; 2 brothers. Sam Bofysil of Lansing and George S. Bofysil of California, and 1 sister, Tafeeda Nakfor of Lansing. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, 1 son, 1 brother, 1 sister and 1 granddaughter. The family will re­ ceive their friends Saturday & Sunday, 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Palmer Bush Fun­ eral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Palmer Bush Chapel with the Rev. Nicholas Lu­ belfeld officiating. Interment will follow at Deepdale Cemetery. Members of the Michigan Army National Guard will accord Military services. Pallbearers will be Col. Arthur J. Pelmer Lee Boyd An Eaton County man and three Living­ ston County people were among at least a dozen people killed this weekend on Michigan streets and highways. Pelmer Lee Boyd, 24, of Eaton Rapids died at 2:05 a.m. Sunday after he was struck by a car while walking on M-99 in Albion Township, Calhoun County. Lansing State Journal July 20, 1981 Charles G. Brenner Charles G. Brenner, 1302 Water Street, Eaton Rapids died June 22 at a Lansing Convalescent Home where he had been a patient for one month. Mr. Brenner was born May 27, 1886 in Highland, and came to Lansing in 1902. He was a Master Plumber and opened his own business, C.J. Brenner Plumbing and Heating in North Lansing. He later sold this business and for 17 years worked for the State of Michigan and Master Plumber and continued after retirement as a Consultant for them. He was an ardent hunter and skeet shooter and at one time was named National Grand Champion Skeet Shooter for which he won a new car. He was a life men- ber of the Elks B.P.O.E. in Lansing. Surviving he has two sisters, Mrs. Fern Hacker in Kansas and Mrs. Jessie White in California; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Marcella Brenner of Eaton Rapids and several nieces and nephews. He was preceeded in death by his wife, Myrtle, in 1972 and his son Walter in 1979. Funeral services were held Friday, June 26 from the Skinner Chapel with Rev. Thompson (Tom) Browne 518 S. River Street Eaton Rapids Age 73, died Jan. 5, 1981. He has been a resident of Eaton Rapids since 1920 coming from Ireland. A veteran of World War II, was retired from Oldsmobile. Surviving is his wife Janice, 2 nieces, Mrs. Sheila Fleming of Traverse City and Mrs. Deems (Debra) Smith of Eaton Rapids. 1 cousin, Mrs. Maggie Bramble of Cham­ blee, GA. A. Alberta Bullock 1301 Eaton Rapids Age 72, died Tuesday, October 6, 1981 at her home. She was born July 15, 1909 at Lawrence, , the daughter of Otto and Mary Russell. For a period of 40 years she served with her husband, the Rev. John Bullock, numerous United Methodist Churches including Hope and Edenville, Sunfield Circuit, Union City and Girard, Remus and Mecosta, Leslie and Felt Plains, Potter Park and Trinity both of Lansing, New Buffalo and Lake­ side and Farwell, the appointment from which they retired. An accomplished 9 mus1c1an she taught piano and voice and served as choir director and pianist throughout the years. She was formerly a member of several music and womens clubs. Surviving besides her husband are 1 daughter, Jamie Ann Zimmer of Grand Ledge; 3 sons, John E. Bullock of Jenison, Michigan, Frederick R. Bullock of Lansing, and Nels E. Bullock of Okemos; 9 grand­ children; 2 sisters, Mary Anna Mount of Florida, Imogene Billet of Penn.; 1 brother, James E. Russell of Ohio; nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. at the. Eaton Rapids United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Arrangements by the Shelly Funeral Home. Mr. Carris was born July 28, 1905 in Hanover, Michigan and had been a resident of Mason-Eaton Rapids area for 27 years. He was retired from Oldsmobile. Evelyn Fern Cook Evelyn Fern Cook, 785 State Street, Eaton Rapids, passed away suddenly at the Eaton Rapids Community Hospital on Wedmesday afternoon, July 15. She had been at the hospital since Sunday. Mrs. Cook was born January 2,, 1922 in Starke County, Indiana, daughter of James Alvin and Enid Fern Lerch. She lived in the Narrow Lake area for many years and after her marriage to Eddie Cook, lived for several years in the Detroit area. She had lived in Eaton Rapids for the past three years. She is survived by her husband, Eddie; five daughters, Mrs. Inez Kreischer of Charlotte, Mrs. Sandra Ross of Spring­ port, Nancy Cook of Eaton Rapids, Mrs. Virginia Malcolm of Potterville and Carol Cook of Port Huron; two sons, Kenneth of Charlotte and Morris James of Florida; father, James Alvin Lerch of Eaton Rapids; one sister, Mrs. June Fisher of Holt; two brothers, James E. of Charlotte and Richard Lerch of Ea- ton Rapids. Also 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 18, at 11:00 a.m. from the Skinner Chapel with Rev. A. William (Bill) England 1801 Gale Road Eaton Rapids Age 42, died August 19, 1981. Mr. England was born July 6, 1939 in Carson City, MI. He was a member of the Robbins United Methodist Church. Surviving is his wife, Shirley; 2 daughters, Mrs. Warren (Dawn) Davis of Holt, Lisa England and a son, Mark England both at home; 2 granddaughters; mother, Mrs. Hazel England of Eaton Rapids; and a sister, Mrs. Bettye Render of Holt. Funeral services will be held Saturday 1 p.m. at the Gorsline Runciman Lansing Chapel with the Rev. Joe Huston, pastor of the Robbins United Methodist Church offi­ ciating. Interment will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Mae Finch Mae Finch, 512 Hale St., Eaton Rapids, age 89i died Friday, July 17, 1981, at the local hospital. "Aunt Mae", as many knew her, was born at Eaton Rapids, July 10, 1892, the daughter of Amos and Melinda Miller. She was a lifetime resident of the area. Surviving are two sons, Raymond Finch of St. Myers, Florida, David Finch of Fife Lake; one niece, Luella Finch of Eaton Rapids; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one sis­ ter, Mrs. Blanche Routh of Eaton Rapids and nieces and nephews. Frances Enid Fulton 615 West Street Eaton Rapids Age 68, died Wednesday, February 4, 1981 at a local hospital. She was the widow of the late Ernest Fulton who operated the Fulton Upholstery in Eaton Rapids for 38 years. Arbutus L. (Trefry) Keel 3786 Delano Drive Eaton Rapids Age 79, died March 25, 1981 after a long illness. Her husband Arlo Trefry preceded her death in 1958 and she had since remarried. She managed the Michigan Arcade Health Spa and later was the Secretary for the President of Farm Bureau in Lansing. After he retired she worked as a Secretary for the Michigan Dairy Assoc. of Mich., and helped to composite a historical book for Farmers Petroleum. Ross A. Naylor 125 E. Cananaugh Formerly of Eaton Rapids Mr. Naylor, age 78, passed away June 14, 1981 at his home where he resided for 46 years. He was born July 3, 1902 in Bradner, Ohio and moved to Eaton Rapids at the age of five with his par­ ents and two brothers to the family homestead on Kinneyville Road. He was baptised at the age of 13 at the Eaton Rapids Baptist Church. He attended the Bay Window School, Eaton Rapids High School and worked on the farm during World War I. In 1922, he attended the Coyne Electrical School in Chicago and graduated in 1924. He was employed by the Hudson Car Company in Detroit from 35

1924 to 1927, the Reo Motor Car Company from 1928 to 1939, and the U.S. Regional Poultry Research Laboratory in East Lansing as a Sr. Electrician from 1939 until he retired in 1967. He married Helen Irene Wise on April 17, 1929 and moved to Lansing where he has resided since. As a young man he participated in many motorcycle and speedboat races. He was past member of the Eaton Rapids Masonic Lodge and served as a trained air raid wardon during World War II. He was active in scouting programs during the 1940's and designed, built and contri­ buted many creative projects for various youth groups of the Everett School area. In 1979 he and his wife celebrated their 50th Anniversary with friends and rela­ tives. He is survived by his wife, Helen I.; his daughter, Mrs. Wesley (Vonda Lee) Pulver of Lansing; his son, Dean Arthur and his wife, Phyllis A. of Lansing; five grandsons; and one brother Clayton of Eaton Rapids. Funeral ser­ vices will be conducted by the Rev. David Morton in the Jessen Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 17 at 2 p.m. with interment in Hillside Cemetery. Waldo E. Sherman Waldo E. Sherman, age 83, formerly of 120 East Street, died Thursday afternoon at Branch County Community Hospital in Coldwater. Mr. Sherman came to Eaton Rapids around 1920 from Ohio and worked at the Eaton Rapids Review which later became the Eaton Rapids Journal. In 1925 he opened his own business, Sher- 44 man Printing Co.mpany, which closed at his retirement in 1960. Upon his retire­ ment the Shermans moved to Prescott, Arizona; there they spent several happy years until poor health brought them back to friends and relatives in Michi- gan. Mr. Sherman was active in the masonic organization and was the oldest living Past Master of the Eaton Rapids Lodge #63 F&AM at the time of his death. He was also very active and one of the charter members of the Eaton Rapids Con­ servation Club. His hobbies ranged from hunting and fishing to photography, avi­ ation and archery. At one time he owned and operated an archery-tackle manufac­ turing company with customers from a- round the world. He is survived by one stepson, Ralph Natusch; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was born in Czechoslovakia, August 28, 1899, the daughter of John and Maria Dunay. Mrs. Stay was the Rectory housekeeper for St. Peter Catholic Rectory for the past ten years. She was a 1923 graduate of Eaton Rapids High School, and attended Albion College and Kalamazoo Western. For several years she assisted her father and bro­ ther with the publishing of the Eaton Rapids Journal. Eva L. Towns Mrs. Eva L. Towns, 84 years of age, died Friday, June 26 at the home of her son, Clare, on Kingsland Highway. She had been in ill health for some time. Robert Perry Waldron Robert Perry Waldron, 102 Meath Street, Eaton Rapids, died very suddenly Thursday morning, October 29. He had been released from the hospital on Wednesday and suffered a cardiac 53 arrest about 2:00 a.m. 11 Perry 11 was born July 8, 1928 in Ingham County son of Edward and Ida Waldron and had lived in the Eaton Rapids area all his life except for Military Service. He was in the service for 14 years serving in the Navy and was discharged with the rating of Lieutenant J.G. He retired from the Eaton Rapids Fire Department in 1977 because of ill health and was currently an Honorary Fireman, a Member of the First Baptist Church and President of the Choral Boosters in Eaton Rapids. Surviving are his wife, Sharla; 11 children, Edward Perry, with the Navy in San Diego; Phillip of Eaton Rapids; Latisha Waldron of Louisiana; Robert Joe Wal­ dron of Eaton Rapids; Drena Switzer and Tanya Fagan of Louisiana; Terry Taylor of California; Derel Ezell of Louisiana; Lola Moore of Louisiana; Scott Bell and Marcia Bell of Eaton Rapids. Lawrence E. Whittum Lawrence Edgar Whittum, 65 years of age, of 220 Diana Street, Eaton Rapids, died Wednesday evening, July 15 of a heart attack while driving his car. He had gone out for dinner and suf­ fered the attack on returning home. Lawrence was born November 24, 1915 in Brookfield Township, son of Roy and Celinda Whittum and was a lifelong resident of this area. He worked for Miller Dairy Farms for 22 years and for the Eaton Rapids Post Office for 10. He was a Veteran of the 2nd World War. He was currently on dis­ ability retirement from the Post Office after suffering a heart attack five years ago.
