Harvard University is an American private Ivy League research university located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Its history, quality of education, academic influence, and wealth has made it one of the most prestigious universities in the world.

Yale’s central campus in downtown New Haven covers 260 acres (1.1 km2). An additional 500 acres (2.0 km2) includes the Yale golf course and nature preserves in rural Connecticut and Horse Island. Yale is a medium-sized research university, most of whose students are in the graduate and professional schools.

Undergraduates, or Yale College students, come from a variety of ethnic, national, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Of the 2010–2011 freshman class, 10% are non‑U.S. citizens, while 54% went to public high schools. Boston University (most commonly referred to as BU) is a private research university located in Boston, Massachusetts. The university has more than 4,000 faculty members and 29,000 students, and is one of Boston's largest employers. It offers bachelor's degrees, master's de- grees, and doctoral degrees, and medical and dental degrees through 18 schools and colleges on two urban campuses. The main campus is situated along the Charles River in Boston's Fenway-Kenmore and Allston neighborhoods, while the Boston University Medical Campus is in Boston's South End neighborhood. BU also operates 75 study abroad programs in over 33 cities in over 20 countries and has in- ternship opportunities in 10 different countries (including the United States and abroad).

In 2013, the university received a record-breaking 52,693 applica- tions to fill only 3,800 seats in the Class of 2017. This was the highest amount of applications received by any university in North America with 36 percent of applicants offered admission to the Class of 2017. Princeton has a long history. Founded in 1746 in Elizabeth as the College of New Jersey, it is one of the nine Colonial Colleges established before the American Revolution as well as the fourth chartered institution of higher education in the American colonies. The university moved to Newark in 1747, then to Princeton in 1756 and was renamed Princeton University in 1896.

Princeton now provides undergraduate and graduate instruction in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and engineering. It does not have schools of medicine, law, divinity, or business, but it does offer professional degrees through the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, the Princeton University School of Engineering and Applied Science, and the School of Architecture. The institute has ties with the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton Theological Seminary, and the Westminster Choir College of Rider University. Princeton has been associated with 35 Nobel Laureates, 17 National Medal of Science winners, and three National Humani- ties Medal winners. On a per-student basis, Princeton has the largest university endowment in the world.

From 2001 to 2012, Princeton University was ranked either first or second among national universities by U.S. News & World Report (USNWR), holding the No. 1 spot for 10 of those 12 years. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is a private research university located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States. MIT has five schools and one college, containing a total of 32 academic departments, with a strong emphasis on scientific, engineering, and technological education and research.

MIT places among the top ten in many overall rankings of universities (see right) and rankings based on students' revealed preferences. For several years, U.S.News & World Report, the QS World University Rankings, and the Academic Ranking of World Universities have ranked MIT's School of Engineering first, as did the 1995 National Research Council report. In the same lists, MIT's strongest showings apart from in engineering are in computer science, the natural sciences, business, economics, linguistics, mathematics, and, to a lesser extent, political science and philosophy.

The four-year, full-time undergraduate program maintains a balance between professional majors and those in the arts and sciences, and is selective, admitting few transfer students and 9.7% of its applicants in the 2010–2011 application season. MIT offers 44 undergraduate degrees across its five schools. In the 2010–2011 academic year, 1,161 bachelor of science (abbreviated SB) degrees were granted, the only type of undergraduate degree MIT now awards.

In the 2011 fall term, among students who had designated a major, the School of Engineering was the most popular division, enrolling 62.7% of students in its 19-degree programs, followed by the School of Science, School of Humanities, Arts, & Social Sciences, Sloan School of Management , and School of Architecture and Planning. The largest undergraduate degree programs were in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Computer Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, and Mathematics. Quick Guide to US Colleges Admission Process

Start the process early. It takes time, and the deadlines are strictly followed. Use the following tips as a helpful guide!

• SAT or ACT? Decide which one is best for you and take it multiple times.

• Know your strengths. Use the multiple intelligences theory by Professor Howard Gardner as a guide.

• Take the SAT Subject Tests if they are required by the college you are applying to. Decide which ones to take and narrow your focus when studying the material.

• Have a resume that includes details about all your extracurricular activities and lead- ership positions

• Start thinking about which of your teachers to ask for recommendation letters.

• Research colleges to decide on a good fit in terms of your major, desired population, proximity to an airport, student diversity, etc.

• Know and keep up with deadlines for college applications, test dates, and scholarship opportunities.

• Know statistics about admission for several colleges.

• Prepare to write many essays.

• Decide how your education will be financed. If you are a US citizen, you may be eligible for some student loans.

Attend and/or encourage your parents to attend the Pro Educators Plus semi- nar on “5 Tested Tips for Impressing Top Colleges in the US”. These tips were put together by Ivy League Colleges and only very few people have access to this informa- tion. Mrs. Aladesanmi and Ms. Diane Tizzano will be in Nigeria in November 2013 to present at the seminar. According to the Harvard admissions office, “colleges are not looking for automatons”, but students who know how to learn and apply knowledge. I will expatiate on this at the seminar.
