NAVAL INSTITUTE OF EDUCATIONAL AND TRAINING TECHNOLOGY (NIETT) The Naval Institute of Educational and Training Technology (NIETT) was established on 25th April 1971. The role charted for the Institute was to conduct in- service training in Teaching methods and Training Technology for Education Officers. Today the Alma mater of Education Officers has grown into a nerve centre for training of trainers and a full-fledged centre for production of training aids and resource material. In Aug 1998, NIETT became the first Trainer of Trainers Institution in India to be accredited with ISO 9001:2000 Certification. NIETT is one of the many training institutes/schools located in the Naval Base, Kochi, Kerala. The Institute is presently housed in old Head quarter junction opposite to Signal School. The PFS was jointly funded by the Cochin Corporation and the Cities Development Initiative for Asia (CDIA), and conducted between December 2009 and June 2010. The outputs of the PFS include an innovative transport sector strategy for Cochin, together with three high-priority transport sector investment proposals for immediate implementation. These proposals include ferry services, priority bus lanes, park and pay and pedestrian over bridges, and pedestrian precincts with supporting park and pay facilities. This report addresses the investment proposal for the ferry services. The proposal firstly summarizes the status, constraints and challenges facing Cochin‟s transport sector, leading to a summary of the innovative transport sector strategy which has been developed for the city to meet these challenges. This then leads into a presentation of the proposed ferry service investment proposal, providing technical, financial, economic, and social and environmental safeguard analysis for pre-feasibility due diligence. The proposal also provides a preferred implementation schedule for the initiative, and recommends institutional restructuring and strengthening activities necessary to assure long term viability of the investments. There is considerable public private partnership (PPP) opportunity in the ferry services proposal. The PPP potential is also therefore addressed. Formulation of this PFS has only been possible due to the vision and leadership provided by the Corporation through the Mayor Professor Mercy Williams.

1 CADET’S HAND BOOK (NAVY) SPECIALISED SUBJECT 2 Preface 1. National Cadet Corps (NCC), came into existence, on 15 July 1948 under an Act of Parliament. Over the years, NCC has spread its activities and values, across the length and breadth of the country; in schools and colleges, in almost all the districts of India. It has attracted millions of young boys and girls, to the very ethos espoused by its motto, “unity and discipline” and molded them into disciplined and responsible citizens of the country. NCC has attained an enviable brand value for itself, in the Young India’s mind space. 2. CITY MOBILITY PLAN - KOCHI 1. INTRODUCTION 1.1 GENERAL Kochi, the largest agglomeration in the state of Kerala is the nerve centre of all commercial activities in Kerala. One of the major ports in the country Kochi is blessed with connection with other parts of the country through all modes of transport like road, rail, air and water. NH 17, NH 47, and NH 49 pass through Kochi. Kochi port is located on strategic International route. Broad gauge railway lines link up Kochi to all major cities of the country. Kochi has got one of the three international airports in the state. In addition to all these the regional road linkages are supplemented by an extensive network of navigation routes through the lagoon system, serving the movement of passenger and cargo. Insufficient carrying capacity of the intra-urban and sub urban routes, unhindered development of vast areas as urban extensions due to urbanization, unscientific planning in urban infrastructure development , absence of proper linkage of various forms of transportation etc. have resulted in an inadequate mobility system in the city and suburbs. As part of the comprehensive development of the city an efficient mobility plan has to be formulated. 1.2 STUDY AREA It was only in the beginning of the 19th century that Kochi , which was situated with in the narrow strip of land sandwiched between backwaters and sea outgrew to Ernakulam in the eastern side of the back waters. The narrow streets of Fort Kochi and Mattancherry were not sufficient to take up the travel demand even at that time.

The population is increasing in India and it hit 135 crores in the year 2018 and vehicle population is also increasing which hit 253 million in the year 2018 as per the research conducted by the ’Statista Research Department’. So, it is important to manage these vehicle population since the vehicles are kept idle most of the time somewhere. Globally the parking management dimensions are changing. In India we increase the parking supply according to increasing demand. Since land is a precious resource spending more land on parking is not ideal. Therefore, rather than increasing the supply more management solutions are suggested all over the world. The study focuses on parking issues and existing parking conditions as well as drawbacks of one of the very busy stretch of Kochi city i.e. M G road. M G road was identified as the stretch with maximum parking demand and the stretch with maximum parking issues in Kochi Masterplan 2031. The stretch always faces problems related to parking as well as congestion. Both the sides of the stretch carry a large number of branded as well as local shops. And the regulations implemented here after the commencement of metro has created a lot of impacts in transportation as well as the commercial sector of the area.
