The Raksha Mantri was briefed on the operational readiness of the Command and other aspects of maritime and coastal security on the Eastern Seaboard. Later, Shri Rajnath Singh was taken on a guided tour of Indian Navy’s indigenously designed and constructed frontline stealth frigate INS Shivalik and Indian Naval Adm Karambir Singh CNS receiving the Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh at Visakhapatnam. Submarine Sindhukirti, wherein the Raksha Mantri interacted with the crew members. Addressing the naval personnel and Defence Civilians, the Raksha Mantri lauded the patriotic fervour of every sailor serving in the Indian Navy in maintaining constant vigil against maritime threat and safeguarding our Nation’s maritime interests. He also highlighted Indian Navy’s significant role in implementing India’s Act East Policy. He later interacted with them during Barakhana. A 5th Batch Officer of the Indian Coast Guard, he joined service in January 1984. During the initial years, he specialised in select core competencies viz. Search and Rescue as well as Maritime Safety and Port Operations, at the US Coast Guard Reserve Training Centre, Yorktown, Virginia. The incoming Director General holds a Master's Degree in Defence & Strategic Studies from Madras University and is an alumnus of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington.
